Book Infinity 8 Vol 2

Download or read book Infinity 8 Vol 2 written by Lewis Trondheim and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The city-sized, deep-space cruise ship "Infinity 8" stops halfway in route between the Milky Way and Andromeda, blocked by a massive field of debris containing wreckage and artifacts from countless planets, cultures, and possibly dimensions. The captain of the ship calls upon eight of the ship's top security to investigate the anomaly, each one sent out in a parallel time-loop to collect information which can then be assembled to hopefully discover the truth before disaster erupts. Each time-loop lasts only eight hours, at which point things snap back to the way they were when they started, with no memories of their time in that window. Can the eight agents solve the mystery without making things worse? Danger reveals itself within the interspecies population on the ship, some of whom may know more than they lead on . . . The second in the eight-volume series of pulpy sci-fi adventures, this time by legendary writer Lewis Trondheim and series designer Olivier Vatine themselves. Another venture into the field of debris uncovers some strange artifacts from numerous historical eras . . . including the head of Adolf Hitler! Returning it to the ship for study turns disastrous as their future science restores life and awareness to the head, giving rise to the threat of a brand new Reich made up of robots and fanatics who've lost all understanding of the genocidal agenda the former dictator originally unleashed! Crucial information transmitted by first agent Yoko Keren (at the end of Vol.1) has made the Captain decide to launch a new parallel time-loop and activate a second agent: the impulsive Stella Moonkicker, who will only have eight hours to collect the maximum amount of information possible. Flanked by Bobbie, her boring probation robot, shadowing her since her most recent bout of "unprofessional conduct," she is assigned as security for a group of fanatics who long for the return of the Nazis, not fully understanding exactly what the Nazis actual did or stood for. Their centuries-old impression has become watered down to something like a simple philosophy for peace . . . a far cry from the dangers of their actual original philosophy. But when they find the cryonized head of Adolf Hitler floating in the mysterious wreckage blocking the ship and try to reactivate it, the threat of a Fourth Reich on the Infinity 8 proves to be very serious. Stella and Bobbie will have to confront the reanimated Führer, who is confused by this strange future and hell-bent on taking over the world (again). But if the Captain is killed, no reboot can take place and the advent of the Fourth Reich will become the only time frame to have ever existed . . .

Book The Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell Volume 5

Download or read book The Collected Papers of Bertrand Russell Volume 5 written by Bertrand Russell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-17 with total page 1067 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Bertrand Russell's Collected Papers finds Russell focused on writing Principia Mathematica during 1905–08. Eight previously unpublished papers shed light on his different versions of a substitutional theory of logic, with its elimination of classes and relations, during 1905-06. A recurring issue for him was whether a type hierarchy had to be part of a substitutional theory. In mid-1907 he began writing up the final version of Principia, now using a ramified theory of types, and eleven unpublished drafts from 1907-08 deal with this. Numerous letters show his thoughts on the process. The volume's 80-page introduction covers the evolution of his logic from 1896 until 1909, when volume I of Principia went to the printer.

Book The Infinity of God

Download or read book The Infinity of God written by Benedikt Paul Göcke and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2018-12-30 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two questions regarding contemporary theological and philosophical studies are often overlooked: “Is God infinite or finite?” and, “What does it mean to say that God is infinite?” In The Infinity of God, Benedikt Paul Göcke and Christian Tapp bring together prominent scholars to discuss God’s infinitude from philosophical and theological perspectives. Each contributor deals with a particular aspect of the infinity of God, employing the methods of analytic theology and analytic philosophy. The essays in the first section examine historical issues from a systematic point of view. The contributors focus on the Cappadocian Fathers, Thomas Aquinas, Leibniz, Kant, Hegel, Bolzano, and Cantor. The second section deals with particular issues concerning the relation between God's infinity and both the finitude of the world and the classical attributes of God: eternity, simplicity, omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience, and moral perfection. There are some books that deal with the notion of infinity in mathematics and in general philosophy, but no single text brings together the best analytic philosophers and theologians tackling the various aspects of the infinity of God and the correlated problems. This book will interest students and scholars in philosophy of religion, theology, and metaphysics. Contributors: Benedikt Paul Göcke, Christian Tapp, Franz Krainer, Adam Drosdek, William E. Carroll, Christina Schneider, Ruben Schneider, Robert M. Wallace, Bruce A. Hedman, Bernhard Lang, Richard Swinburne, Kenneth L. Pearce, William Hasker, Paul Helm, Brian Leftow, Ken Perszyk, Thomas Schärtl, and Philip Clayton.

Book Hegel and the Infinite

    Book Details:
  • Author : Slavoj Žižek
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2011-03-23
  • ISBN : 0231512872
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Hegel and the Infinite written by Slavoj Žižek and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catherine Malabou, Antonio Negri, John D. Caputo, Bruno Bosteels, Mark C. Taylor, and Slavoj Zizek join seven others—including William Desmond, Katrin Pahl, Adrian Johnston, Edith Wyschogrod, and Thomas A. Lewis—to apply Hegel's thought to twenty-first-century philosophy, politics, and religion. Doing away with claims that the evolution of thought and history is at an end, these thinkers safeguard Hegel's innovations against irrelevance and, importantly, reset the distinction of secular and sacred. These original contributions focus on Hegelian analysis and the transformative value of the philosopher's thought in relation to our current "turn to religion." Malabou develops Hegel's motif of confession in relation to forgiveness; Negri writes of Hegel's philosophy of right; Caputo reaffirms the radical theology made possible by Hegel; and Bosteels critiques fashionable readings of the philosopher and argues against the reducibility of his dialectic. Taylor reclaims Hegel's absolute as a process of infinite restlessness, and Zizek revisits the religious implications of Hegel's concept of letting go. Mirroring the philosopher's own trajectory, these essays progress dialectically through politics, theology, art, literature, philosophy, and science, traversing cutting-edge theoretical discourse and illuminating the ways in which Hegel inhabits them.
