By 2020, Karachi and Lahore will each have a population of well over 10 million people and several other cities will have a population of at least one million. Revitalizing Industrial Growth in Pakistan: Trade, Infrastructure, and Environmental Performance addresses ways in which Pakistan can revitalize its manufacturing by reducing the cost of doing business, improving the investment climate, and strengthening institutions to facilitate the flow of people, goods, and ideas and thus stimulate medium-term growth and job creation. Such revitalization is sorely needed to place the country on a sustained path of high economic growth.The authors lay out priorities and strategies for 'greening' Pakistan's industrial growth and provide a comprehensive analysis of issues in the debate on this strategy. The data is taken from 1975 to 2010. It takes the hypothesis that industrial development will decrease poverty through increased employment and rise in the per capita income. All the variables used in the model are stationary at 1st difference. I have employed ARDL approach to Co-integration to find relationship between industrial development and poverty reduction. The approach and findings of the study are compared with that of regional and East Asian countries, which have developed through industrialization. The t-values for LINDG is highest among the independent variables, which means growth in industry can reduce the poverty to greater extent. The population growth of Pakistan is quite high, by increasing the literacy rate; we can make the labor skilled, increasing human capital, that will lead to more jobs and earning opportunities, reducing poverty.

Pakistans 2011 Framework for Economic Growth recognizes that, to accelerate industrialization, Pakistan must reduce the cost of doing business and create an incentive structure designed to achieve a competitive, dynamic, and export-driven industrial sector capable of providing employment to the growing labor force. Competing in global markets requires a socially and environmentally sustainable industrialization strategy. The four main inputs for sustainable industrial growth in Pakistan discussed in this book are 1) Macroeconomic stability and sectoral policies to support industrial competitiveness by allowing long-term planning, including investments in infrastructure and cleaner production. 2) Upgraded trade facilitation and infrastructure (particularly transport and energy) to address some of industrializations spatial aspects. Improved transport infrastructure will lower productions environmental costs. 3) Greening of Pakistans industrial sector to enhance international competitivenessgreening will make Pakistan a more attractive export partner for nations and firms committed to green production. 4) Strong institutionsfor example, environmental management agencies to control pollution, and cleaner production centers to increase domestic awareness of international environmental standardsto implement industrialization initiatives effectively, including those for small and medium-sized enterprises.
