This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neural network technology encompasses a class of methods which attempt to mimic the basic structures used in the brain for information processing. Thetechnology is aimed at problems such as pattern recognition which are difficult for traditional computational methods. Neural networks have potential applications in many industrial areas such as advanced robotics, operations research, and process engineering. This book is concerned with the application of neural network technology to real industrial problems. It summarizes a three-year collaborative international project called ANNIE (Applications of Neural Networks for Industry in Europe) which was jointly funded by industry and the European Commission within the ESPRIT programme. As a record of a working project, the book gives an insight into the real problems faced in taking a new technology from the workbench into a live industrial application, and shows just how it can be achieved. It stresses the comparison between neural networks and conventional approaches. Even the non-specialist reader will benefit from understanding the limitations as well as the advantages of the new technology.

Book Mono and Multivariable Control and Estimation

Download or read book Mono and Multivariable Control and Estimation written by Eric Ostertag and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-03 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the various design methods of a state-feedback control law and of an observer. The considered systems are of continuous-time and of discrete-time nature, monovariable or multivariable, the last ones being of main consideration. Three different approaches are described: • Linear design methods, with an emphasis on decoupling strategies, and a general formula for multivariable controller or observer design; • Quadratic optimization methods: Linear Quadratic Control (LQC), optimal Kalman filtering, Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control; • Linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to solve linear and quadratic problems. The duality between control and observation is taken to advantage and extended up to the mathematical domain. A large number of exercises, all given with their detailed solutions, mostly obtained with MATLAB, reinforce and exemplify the practical orientation of this book. The programs, created by the author for their solving, are available on the Internet sites of Springer and of MathWorks for downloading. This book is targeted at students of Engineering Schools or Universities, at the Master’s level, at engineers desiring to design and implement innovative control methods, and at researchers.

Book Computer Applications in Fermentation Technology Modelling and Control of Biotechnological Processes

Download or read book Computer Applications in Fermentation Technology Modelling and Control of Biotechnological Processes written by N. M. Fish and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard Fox Chairman, Scientific Programme Committee Between 25th and 29th September, 1988, 243 people who either apply or research the use of computers in fermentation gathered together at Robinson College, Cambridge, UK. They came from 30 countries. The conference brought together two traditions. Firstly, it continued the series on Computer Applications in Fermentation Technology (ICCAFT) inaugurated by Henri Blanchere in Dijon in 1973 and carried forward in Philadelphia and Manchester. Secondly, it brought the expertise of the many members of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), who focused their attention on biotechnology at Noordwijkerhout in the Netherlands in December, 1985. I am happy to say that the tradition carries on and a successor meeting will hopefully take place in the USA in 1991. If you find these proceedings useful or stimulating, then we hope to see you there. We set out to make ICCAFT4 a close-knit friendly conference. We housed all who cared to in Robinson College itself and organised no parallel sessions. Because we, the organisers, experience difficulty with the jargon of our colleagues from other disciplines, we asked Bruce Beck to present a breakfast tutorial on modern control and modelling techniques, and we set up informal panel discussions after dinner on two evenings. Neville Fish chaired a forum on the microbiological principles behind models, while Professors Derek Linkens and Ron Leigh led a discussion on expert systems in control.

Book Advances in State Estimation Diagnosis and Control of Complex Systems

Download or read book Advances in State Estimation Diagnosis and Control of Complex Systems written by Ye Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents theoretical and practical findings on the state estimation, diagnosis and control of complex systems, especially in the mathematical form of descriptor systems. The research is fully motivated by real-world applications (i.e., Barcelona’s water distribution network), which require control systems capable of taking into account their specific features and the limits of operations in the presence of uncertainties stemming from modeling errors and component malfunctions. Accordingly, the book first introduces a complete set-based framework for explicitly describing the effects of uncertainties in the descriptor systems discussed. In turn, this set-based framework is used for state estimation and diagnosis. The book also presents a number of application results on economic model predictive control from actual water distribution networks and smart grids. Moreover, the book introduces a fault-tolerant control strategy based on virtual actuators and sensors for such systems in the descriptor form.

Book Assessment and Future Directions of Nonlinear Model Predictive Control

Download or read book Assessment and Future Directions of Nonlinear Model Predictive Control written by Rolf Findeisen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-09-08 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thepastthree decadeshaveseenrapiddevelopmentin the areaofmodelpred- tive control with respect to both theoretical and application aspects. Over these 30 years, model predictive control for linear systems has been widely applied, especially in the area of process control. However, today’s applications often require driving the process over a wide region and close to the boundaries of - erability, while satisfying constraints and achieving near-optimal performance. Consequently, the application of linear control methods does not always lead to satisfactory performance, and here nonlinear methods must be employed. This is one of the reasons why nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) has - joyed signi?cant attention over the past years, with a number of recent advances on both the theoretical and application frontier. Additionally, the widespread availability and steadily increasing power of today’s computers, as well as the development of specially tailored numerical solution methods for NMPC, bring thepracticalapplicabilityofNMPCwithinreachevenforveryfastsystems. This has led to a series of new, exciting developments, along with new challenges in the area of NMPC.

Book Feedback Control

Download or read book Feedback Control written by Stephen J. Dodds and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-18 with total page 1036 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops the understanding and skills needed to be able to tackle original control problems. The general approach to a given control problem is to try the simplest tentative solution first and, when this is insufficient, to explain why and use a more sophisticated alternative to remedy the deficiency and achieve satisfactory performance. This pattern of working gives readers a full understanding of different controllers and teaches them to make an informed choice between traditional controllers and more advanced modern alternatives in meeting the needs of a particular plant. Attention is focused on the time domain, covering model-based linear and nonlinear forms of control together with robust control based on sliding modes and the use of state observers such as disturbance estimation. Feedback Control is self-contained, paying much attention to explanations of underlying concepts, with detailed mathematical derivations being employed where necessary. Ample use is made of diagrams to aid these conceptual explanations and the subject matter is enlivened by continual use of examples and problems derived from real control applications. Readers’ learning is further enhanced by experimenting with the fully-commented MATLAB®/Simulink® simulation environment made accessible at insert URL here to produce simulations relevant to all of the topics covered in the text. A solutions manual for use by instructors adopting the book can also be downloaded from insert URL here. Feedback Control is suitable as a main textbook for graduate and final-year undergraduate courses containing control modules; knowledge of ordinary linear differential equations, Laplace transforms, transfer functions, poles and zeros, root locus and elementary frequency response analysis, and elementary feedback control is required. It is also a useful reference source on control design methods for engineers practicing in industry and for academic control researchers.

Book State Estimation for Dynamic Systems

Download or read book State Estimation for Dynamic Systems written by Felix L. Chernousko and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-11-09 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: State Estimation for Dynamic Systems presents the state of the art in this field and discusses a new method of state estimation. The method makes it possible to obtain optimal two-sided ellipsoidal bounds for reachable sets of linear and nonlinear control systems with discrete and continuous time. The practical stability of dynamic systems subjected to disturbances can be analyzed, and two-sided estimates in optimal control and differential games can be obtained. The method described in the book also permits guaranteed state estimation (filtering) for dynamic systems in the presence of external disturbances and observation errors. Numerical algorithms for state estimation and optimal control, as well as a number of applications and examples, are presented. The book will be an excellent reference for researchers and engineers working in applied mathematics, control theory, and system analysis. It will also appeal to pure and applied mathematicians, control engineers, and computer programmers.
