As attorneys are becoming more interested in marketing and how it can benefit their practices, this book is an important tool. It aids attorneys as they evaluate and improve old marketing strategies and create new marketing strategies where such advertising was neglected. It is an ideal readings text for today’s attorney and legal consultants who wish to obtain a better insight into select aspects of marketing the law firm. This is the only readings book that focuses on these areas: applications of marketing planning, attorney selection by consumers, and client and provider attitudes toward legal services. Part Two thoroughly examines various aspects of how clients select and evaluate the performance of legal services. Today’s attorneys must first fully understand what their clients perceive about their services before jumping into marketing their services. This section provides insight that most attorneys would normally not investigate and lays the groundwork for the development of marketing programs. This provides a base from which attorneys who are planning to advertise may be able to prevent failure and promote a greater level of success for the advertising program.Applied mainly to private legal practices and clinics, some of the specific topics covered in the three sections include consumers’perceptions of attorneys and legal advertising; attorneys’perceptions of marketing and advertising; perceived risk in selecting an attorney and how consumers actually select attorneys; customer/client service attributes for attorneys; measuring the effectiveness of legal advertising; market planning and strategies for today’s legal practice; promoting the legal practice; and developing referral and networking systems in legal practice. For attorneys in private practice, law firm libraries and administrators, law professors who specialize in practice development, consultants who concentrate in legal practice marketing, law school libraries, and marketing professors and consultants who teach or consult in the professional service sectors should read this invaluable reference book.

Book Professional Values and Individual Autonomy

Download or read book Professional Values and Individual Autonomy written by Joseph Gordon Hylton and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professional Values and Individual Autonomy: The United States Supreme Court and Lawyer Advertising begins with a comprehensive history of the issue of lawyer advertising in the United States from the early nineteenth century until 1977. It focuses on the changing nature of the legal profession's view of the compatibility of advertising with the concept of law as a "profession." The second part, which occupies most of the text, is a study the ten United States Supreme Court opinions decided since 1977 that address the limits of state power to outlaw lawyer advertising. In Bates v. State Bar of Arizona (1977) the Supreme Court for the first time ruled that the First Amendment places limitations on the power of states to restrict lawyer advertising. The Bates decision, which was -- and is -- highly controversial, dramatically altered the legal landscape. Although the Supreme Court has repeatedly revisited this issue, the propriety of lawyer advertising remains a much debated topic both within and without the legal profession. Hylton includes lightly edited versions of the ten opinions as well as extensive note material which address the way in which the bar and state courts and legislatures responded to these decisions. The book's purpose is to explore in depth the complex web of constitutional and professional concerns involved in the debate over lawyer advertising. Although the materials are arranged with an eye toward classroom use in law school courses on the legal profession, legal ethics, professional responsibility, First Amendment law, and law and sociology, the book is not exclusively a text book. Bar association officials, judges, and practicing lawyers can also benefit from this book.
