Download or read book Indian Masonry written by Robert C. Wright and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Indian Masonry To the Brethren of the Craft: This work is fraternally dedicated to you. In your kindly charge it is placed, hoping that when it has been measured by the plumb, square and level, it will be found good work, true work, square work, and just such work as you need and may pass to be used in the building up of the real Masonic structure. The field of study among the aboriginal races of the new world is intensely interesting, and so much so that the author would fain do more and more in that field, could he have the time at his disposal, for he firmly believes that the Craft of this country owes it to itself to have this work done. He also believes that facts may yet be found out there, which will make our Masonry look like a Broadway store building beside an old Egyptian temple. Astonishing and curious things of the past not only fascinate and interest, but lure one on to seek to dispel the shadows cast about them and to view them in the light by which those people worked. When facts are served up ready for mental absorbing, the average reader does not grasp the great labor it takes to gather, analyze and arrange them for his intellectual repast, even in so humble an effort as the present one. The writer offers no apology, and, according to his ability and honest efforts, he has never hesitated to do his full share of work for the best interests of the Craft wheresoever dispersed, and so he hopes always to do. Book American Indian Freemasonry

Download or read book American Indian Freemasonry written by Arthur Caswell Parker and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American Indian Freemasonry In the beginning God created heaven and earth. - Genesis. Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set. Solomon. Speculative masonry is so far interwoven with religion as to lay us under the strongest obligations to pay that rational homage to the Deity, which at once constitutes our duty and our happiness. It leads the contemplative to view with reverence and admiration the glorious works of creation and inspires them with the most exalted ideas of the perfection of the divine Creator. Samuel Cole. We also have a religion which was given to our forefathers and has been handed down from father to sou. We worship in that way. It teaches us to be thankful for all the favors we receive, to love one another and be united. - Red Jacket. It is more than probable that the diversified customs, institutions and religions of the several nations of the world are less dissimilar in their origin than is often imagined. The differences arose in the progress of time, the shifting scenes of climate, condition and event. But the original ideas of existence and the laws that pertain to all created things are pretty much the same among all the tribes of mankind. - Westropp, Ancient Symbol Worship. Book Mazard s Version of Mason s Pali Grammar

Download or read book Mazard s Version of Mason s Pali Grammar written by Francis Mason and published by Eisel Mazard. This book was released on 2014-12-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A grammatical textbook for the Pali language with Burmese and Sinhalese script (alongside the Romanization), this edition offers a combination of the new (2015) and the old (1868), with some eccentric digressions into the Ashokan inscriptions, theories of the history and origins of the language, and anecdotes from an era when European archaeology and scholarship were (re-)discovering Theravada Buddhist philosophy. Mason's approach to the language is based in the ancient grammar of Kaccāyana, and reflects the first (pioneering) attempts of Europeans to explain the language to a western audience (often making comparisons to Latin, Greek and Sanskrit). This can be used in conjunction with the three other (free!) PDF textbooks for the Pali language available for download (at www.pali.pratyeka.org).

Book Guardians of Empire

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Killingray
  • Publisher : Manchester University Press
  • Release : 2017-03-01
  • ISBN : 1526121468
  • Pages : 270 pages

Download or read book Guardians of Empire written by David Killingray and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For imperialists, the concept of guardian is specifically to the armed forces that kept watch on the frontiers and in the heartlands of imperial territories. Large parts of Asia and Africa, and the islands of the Pacific and the Caribbean were imperial possessions. This book discusses how military requirements and North Indian military culture, shaped the cantonments and considers the problems posed by venereal diseases and alcohol, and the sanitary strategies pursued to combat them. The trans-border Pathan tribes remained an insistent problem in Indian defence between 1849 and 1947. The book examines the process by which the Dutch elite recruited military allies, and the contribution of Indonesian soldiers to the actual fighting. The idea of naval guardianship as expressed in the campaign against the South Pacific labour trade is examined. The book reveals the extent of military influence of the Schutztruppen on the political developments in the German protectorates in German South-West Africa and German East Africa. The U.S. Army, charged with defending the Pacific possessions of the Philippines and Hawaii, encountered a predicament similar to that of the mythological Cerberus. The regimentation of military families linked access to women with reliable service, and enabled the King's African Rifles to inspire a high level of discipline in its African soldiers, askaris. The book explains the political and military pressures which drove successive French governments to widen the scope of French military operations in Algeria between 1954 and 1958. It also explores gender issues and African colonial armies.
