Book Synthetic Geometry of Manifolds

Download or read book Synthetic Geometry of Manifolds written by Anders Kock and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This elegant book is sure to become the standard introduction to synthetic differential geometry. It deals with some classical spaces in differential geometry, namely 'prolongation spaces' or neighborhoods of the diagonal. These spaces enable a natural description of some of the basic constructions in local differential geometry and, in fact, form an inviting gateway to differential geometry, and also to some differential-geometric notions that exist in algebraic geometry. The presentation conveys the real strength of this approach to differential geometry. Concepts are clarified, proofs are streamlined, and the focus on infinitesimal spaces motivates the discussion well. Some of the specific differential-geometric theories dealt with are connection theory (notably affine connections), geometric distributions, differential forms, jet bundles, differentiable groupoids, differential operators, Riemannian metrics, and harmonic maps. Ideal for graduate students and researchers wishing to familiarize themselves with the field.

Book Topics in Noncommutative Geometry

Download or read book Topics in Noncommutative Geometry written by Guillermo Cortiñas and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luis Santalo Winter Schools are organized yearly by the Mathematics Department and the Santalo Mathematical Research Institute of the School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (FCEN). This volume contains the proceedings of the third Luis Santalo Winter School which was devoted to noncommutative geometry and held at FCEN July 26-August 6, 2010. Topics in this volume concern noncommutative geometry in a broad sense, encompassing various mathematical and physical theories that incorporate geometric ideas to the study of noncommutative phenomena. It explores connections with several areas including algebra, analysis, geometry, topology and mathematical physics. Bursztyn and Waldmann discuss the classification of star products of Poisson structures up to Morita equivalence. Tsygan explains the connections between Kontsevich's formality theorem, noncommutative calculus, operads and index theory. Hoefel presents a concrete elementary construction in operad theory. Meyer introduces the subject of $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebraic crossed products. Rosenberg introduces Kasparov's $KK$-theory and noncommutative tori and includes a discussion of the Baum-Connes conjecture for $K$-theory of crossed products, among other topics. Lafont, Ortiz, and Sanchez-Garcia carry out a concrete computation in connection with the Baum-Connes conjecture. Zuk presents some remarkable groups produced by finite automata. Mesland discusses spectral triples and the Kasparov product in $KK$-theory. Trinchero explores the connections between Connes' noncommutative geometry and quantum field theory. Karoubi demonstrates a construction of twisted $K$-theory by means of twisted bundles. Tabuada surveys the theory of noncommutative motives.

Download or read book Confocal Microscopy written by Jian Liu and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The confocal microscope is appropriate for imaging cells or the measurement of industrial artefacts. However, junior researchers and instrument users sometimes misuse imaging concepts and metrological characteristics, such as position resolution in industrial metrology and scale resolution in bio-imaging. And, metrological characteristics or influence factors in 3D measurement such as height assessment error caused by 3D coupling effect are so far not yet identified. In this book, the authors outline their practices by the working experiences on standardization and system design. This book assumes little previous knowledge of optics, but rich experience in engineering of industrial measurements, in particular with profile metrology or areal surface topography will be very helpful to understand the theoretical concerns and value of the technological advances. It should be useful for graduate students or researchers as extended reading material, as well as microscope users alongside their handbook.

Book Robot Manipulators

Download or read book Robot Manipulators written by Marco Ceccarelli and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we have grouped contributions in 28 chapters from several authors all around the world on the several aspects and challenges of research and applications of robots with the aim to show the recent advances and problems that still need to be considered for future improvements of robot success in worldwide frames. Each chapter addresses a specific area of modeling, design, and application of robots but with an eye to give an integrated view of what make a robot a unique modern system for many different uses and future potential applications. Main attention has been focused on design issues as thought challenging for improving capabilities and further possibilities of robots for new and old applications, as seen from today technologies and research programs. Thus, great attention has been addressed to control aspects that are strongly evolving also as function of the improvements in robot modeling, sensors, servo-power systems, and informatics. But even other aspects are considered as of fundamental challenge both in design and use of robots with improved performance and capabilities, like for example kinematic design, dynamics, vision integration.

Book Ordinary Differential Operators

Download or read book Ordinary Differential Operators written by Aiping Wang and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-11-08 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1910 Herman Weyl published one of the most widely quoted papers of the 20th century in Analysis, which initiated the study of singular Sturm-Liouville problems. The work on the foundations of Quantum Mechanics in the 1920s and 1930s, including the proof of the spectral theorem for unbounded self-adjoint operators in Hilbert space by von Neumann and Stone, provided some of the motivation for the study of differential operators in Hilbert space with particular emphasis on self-adjoint operators and their spectrum. Since then the topic developed in several directions and many results and applications have been obtained. In this monograph the authors summarize some of these directions discussing self-adjoint, symmetric, and dissipative operators in Hilbert and Symplectic Geometry spaces. Part I of the book covers the theory of differential and quasi-differential expressions and equations, existence and uniqueness of solutions, continuous and differentiable dependence on initial data, adjoint expressions, the Lagrange Identity, minimal and maximal operators, etc. In Part II characterizations of the symmetric, self-adjoint, and dissipative boundary conditions are established. In particular, the authors prove the long standing Deficiency Index Conjecture. In Part III the symmetric and self-adjoint characterizations are extended to two-interval problems. These problems have solutions which have jump discontinuities in the interior of the underlying interval. These jumps may be infinite at singular interior points. Part IV is devoted to the construction of the regular Green's function. The construction presented differs from the usual one as found, for example, in the classical book by Coddington and Levinson.

Book Regularised Integrals Sums and Traces

Download or read book Regularised Integrals Sums and Traces written by Sylvie Paycha and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2012 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``Regularization techniques'' is the common name for a variety of methods used to make sense of divergent series, divergent integrals, or traces of linear operators in infinite-dimensional spaces. Such methods are often indispensable in problems of number theory, geometry, quantum field theory, and other areas of mathematics and theoretical physics. However arbitrary and noncanonical they might seem at first glance, regularized sums, integrals, and traces often contain canonical concepts, and the main purpose of this book is to illustrate and explain this. This book provides a unified and self-contained mathematical treatment of various regularization techniques. The author shows how to derive regularized sums, integrals, and traces from certain canonical building blocks of the original divergent object. In the process of putting together these ``building blocks'', one encounters many problems and ambiguities caused by various so-called anomalies, which are investigated and explained in detail. Nevertheless, it turns out that the corresponding canonical sums, integrals, sums, and traces are well behaved, thus making the regularization procedure possible and manageable. This new unified outlook on regularization techniques in various fields of mathematics and in quantum field theory can serve as an introduction for anyone from a beginning mathematician interested in the subject to an experienced physicist who wants to gain a unified outlook on techniques he/she uses on a daily basis.
