Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume updates an important earlier work by Bruce M. Metzger, Index to Periodical Literature on the Apostle Paul first published in 1960, which undertook to list periodical materials available before 1960. This volume was the first book in the New Testament Tools and Studies series published by Brill. As with Metzger's volume, this new work lists periodicals in a wide spectrum of languages, including English and Russian. This volume adds considerably to the 3,013 entries of Metzger's original work. To facilitate use, the original classification and numbering scheme developed by Metzger is retained in the new references (as well as in a few from a second edition by Metzger, 1970). Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though books on Paul's life and writing abound, very few works have examined the apostle's teaching techniques. In this companion to 'Teaching as Jesus Taught,' Roy Zuck probes Paul's pedagogy to discover principles for effective teaching today. According to Zuck, the apostle Paul stands as a master teacher. "Analyzing and following Paul's educational goals and strategies," Zuck writes, "can help us become better teachers of God's Word. Examining his pedagogy can acquaint us with a number of important principles and procedures in teaching." 'Teaching as Paul Taught' explores the many New Testament references to Paul's teaching as well as the historical and cultural context in which the apostle taught. Zuck carefully organizes this extensive material around fifteen key questions regarding the teaching ministry of Paul. Over twenty tables and questions for reflection at the end of each chapter aid readers in following Paul's example. The result is a comprehensive and practical handbook for everyone involved in a teaching ministry.

The new commentaries continue this tradition. All new evidence now available is incorporated and new methods of study are applied. The authors are of the highest international standing. No attempt has been made to secure a uniform theological or critical approach to the biblical text: contributors have been invited for their scholarly distinction, not for their adherence to any one school of thought.

Book Paul s Letter to the Philippians in the Light of Disunity in the Church

Download or read book Paul s Letter to the Philippians in the Light of Disunity in the Church written by Davorin Peterlin and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-04-09 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the development of disunity in the Philippian church as the occasion for Paul's response in his letter. The first part of the book examines references and allusions to strife among the Philippians and tension between them and Paul. It demonstrates the pervasiveness of the theme of disunity in most sections of the letter. The second part correlates these findings with sections of the letter dealing with the Philippians' financial support for Paul. It treats such topics as Paul's attitude to money and the sociological composition of the church. The book's aim is to draw attention to social and non-theological aspects of the Philippian situation, and make a contribution to a more theological study of Philippians.
