Book Index of Refraction of Excited Monatomic Gases

Download or read book Index of Refraction of Excited Monatomic Gases written by R. A. Rudd and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The average polarizability per particle is formulated for an excited monatomic gas. In contrast to the usual procedure of neglecting excited state contributions, a lower bound is obtained considering only atomic excited states. The result shows that for an equilibrium argon plasma previous values of the effective polarizability may be too small by at least a factor of two. (Author).

Book New Directions in Atomic Physics

Download or read book New Directions in Atomic Physics written by C.T. Whelan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last few years have seen some remarkable advances in the understanding of atomic phenomena. It is now possible to isolate atomic systems in traps, measure in coincidence the fragments of collision processes, routinely produce, and study multicharged ions. One can look at bulk matter in such a way that the fundamental atomic character is clearly evident and work has begun to tease out the properties of anti matter. The papers in this book reflect many aspects of modem Atomic Physics. They correspond to the invited talks at a conference dedicated to the study of "New Directions in Atomic Physics," which took place in Magdalene College, Cambridge in July of 1998. The meeting was designed as a way of taking stock of what has been achieved and, it was hoped, as a means of stimulating new research in new areas, along new lines. Consequently, an effort was made to touch on as many directions as we could in the four days of the meeting. We included some talks which overviewed whole subfields, as well as quite a large number of research contributions. There is a unity to Physics and we tried to avoid any artificial division between theory and experiment. We had roughly the same number of talks from those who are primarily concerned with making measurements, and from those who spend their lives trying to develop the theory to describe the experiments.

Book An Introduction to Materials Science and Engineering

Download or read book An Introduction to Materials Science and Engineering written by Kenneth M. Ralls and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1976-09-03 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ralls' Introduction to Materials Science and Engineering is intended for students who want to learn about the nature of solid substances and, especially, for beginning engineering students who are making their first serious contact with the structure and properties of real solids. It represents, clearly and logically, the chemical and physical principles on which the properties of materials depend. The basic relationships introduced in general chemistry and physics courses are reviewed and extended in order to permit the student to relate the properties of ceramic, metallic, and polymeric solids to their internal structure and external environment.

Book The Chemistry of the Monatomic Gases

Download or read book The Chemistry of the Monatomic Gases written by A. H. Cockett and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of the Monatomic Gases presents Chapters 5 and 6 from the book Comprehensive Inorganic Chemistry. The book deals with the monatomic gases of Group 0 of the Periodic Table. The discovery, origin, and occurrence in nature, both terrestrially and universally, of monatomic gases are discussed. The text also provides the group's properties, highlighting their similarities and progressive change of properties with atomic weight. Chemists and students studying chemistry will find the book a good reference material.
