Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skepticals in religion: watch out! Do not criticize anything about any religion. It is not of good taste; it is considered lack of respect and tact. Better turn apart a political party, science, a football team or anything else; but do not touch religion, even with the petal of a rose. What kind of privilege is that? Who provided it? It is not the case for this book. In it, I talk about the evil they all produce. Its essence is to forbid thinking. Faith and revelations cannot be doubted a bit, even existing ample evidence of its falsehood. From the hundreds of religions, which is the true one? Coincidentally and curiously, the one that each person happens to follow, by pure chance, of where he/she was born and which religion parents indoctrinated, nothing else. The eminent evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins comments, very appropiately: We are all atheists, but I believe in one god less than you. It results interesting to view the debates of the late Christopher Hitchens or Richard Dawkins versus fundamentalists who always bring faith or revelation and thus, never answer the questions asked or the mentioned commentaries. Homo sapiens has proved capable of great feats although his design shows carelessness, unless we believe in the evidence of evolution. If the damages to children were purely mental, that would be severe enough; but the vast amount of pederasts, such as Marcial Maciel, protected all his life by the pope J. P. II, who has been already canonized! Priests are much like politicians; they cover their backs, and they hardly ever get caught!

The contributions cover a range of periods from the Late Bronze Age through the Persian period and disparate subjects such as Judahite bullae, destruction levels at Megiddo, a diversity of results from various tells in Israel (and one in Jordan), Egyptian influence on Canaan, the city of Jerusalem and its temple, and much on the archaeology of the Shephelah, an area of particular interest to the honoree—who is best known for his excavations at Tell ed-Duweir, the site of biblical Lachish. The volume takes its title from a reference in one of the Lachish ostraca. From 1966 until his retirement in 2004, David Ussishkin taught in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Tel Aviv University. Between 1975 and 1978, he served as Chair of the Department, and between 1980 and 1984 as the Director of the Institute of Archaeology. Download or read book Herman Melville written by Katie McGettigan and published by University of New Hampshire Press. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this imaginative book, Katie McGettigan argues that Melville's novels and poetry demonstrate a sustained engagement with the physical, social, and economic materiality of industrial and commercial forms of print. Further, she shows that this "aesthetics of the material text," central both to Melville's stylistic signature and to his innovations in form, allows Melville to explore the production of selfhood, test the limits of narrative authenticity, and question the nature of artistic originality. Combining archival research in print and publishing history with close reading, McGettigan situates Melville's works alongside advertising materials, magazine articles, trade manuals, and British and American commentary on the literary industry to demonstrate how Melville's literary practice relies on and aestheticizes the specific conditions of literary production in which he worked. For Melville, the book is a physical object produced by particular technological processes, as well as an entity that manifests social and economic values. His characters carry books, write on them, and even sleep on them; they also imagine, observe, and participate in the buying and selling of books. Melville employs the book's print, paper, and binding - and its market circulations - to construct literary figures, to shape textual form, and to create irony and ambiguity. Exploring the printed book in Melville's writings brings neglected sections of his poetry and prose to the fore and invites new readings of familiar passages and images. These readings encourage a reassessment of Melville's career as shaped by his creative engagements with print, rather than his failures in the literary marketplace. McGettigan demonstrates that a sustained and deliberate imaginative dialogue with the material text is at the core of Melville's expressive practice and that, for Melville, the printed book served as a site for imagining the problems and possibilities of modernity.

Download or read book Indelible Impression written by Michael Klimenko and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2015-11-08 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Story is a personal testimony of the two people in love and in their relations with each other. The two completely strange persons in their language, nationality, in the history of their countries, culture, and all the way of their lives met accidentally, came to know each other's values, fell in love with each other and in spite of all adverse circumstances of time and place were united in the family, raised four most wonderful children, and lived the whole life in complete harmony. Their common Christian values united them. In their discussions and meditations among themselves they touched upon many acute social problems of their time (the Chapter of Parents and Children) and also of cosmic occurrences (does God govern the Universe? the Chapter of Heaven and Earth). The reader will learn that from the outset their relationship began by chance, but when events coincide one after another, can they be accidental? Friedrich Nietzsche wrote many times in letters to his friends that in his life there happened nothing accidentally. Furthermore, the reader will learn why Ludwig Beethoven was afraid to wed his eternally beloved one and consequently afflicted himself and possibly also her with suffering. Also the reader will learn many other facts and events of their personal and social life. Despite all the apparent chaotic and unintelligible accumulations of collisions and explosions in the Universe, the astrophysicists gradually established that the entire universe is regulated by causative connections and immutable laws. Scientists don't know all the laws and although our knowledge of them continuously increases, can we be certain that we can know and comprehend all the endless and eternal secrets of the universe? One can only have faith in what he knows. This leads to the supposition that the universe had to be conceived by some sort of design and purpose by Creator who can be recognized in faith by those who seek Him. Science, however, considers only facts and

Book Worse than Death

Download or read book Worse than Death written by Mamtimin Ala and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-02-08 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uyghurs are descendants of Turkic peoples, currently facing genocide committed against them in their homeland, East Turkistan. This land has been colonized by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1949, creating a police state and renamed Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR). In his book, Worse than Death: Reflections on the Uyghur Genocide, Mamtimin Ala explains how Uyghur rights have been diminishing under the authoritarian rule of the CCP, which has recently escalated into the cultural genocide of Uyghurs. Since Xi Jinping became President of the People’s Republic of China in 2013, he has clearly defined his political agenda towards Uyghurs of implementing the Four Breaks intended to “break their lineage, break their roots, break their connections, and break their origins.” The situation has now rapidly deteriorated at an alarming rate. Millions of Uyghur families have been separated with an estimated more than one million Uyghurs being indiscriminately placed in concentration camps, under the guise of “re-education.” Xi has justified this as a fight against the Three Evils (terrorism, separatism, and religious extremism). Uyghurs are subject to forced thought reform, torture, rape, organ harvesting, slave labor, and ultimately death in the shrouded secrecy of the camps in the very eyes of the world. For Uyghurs in exile, they face an endless uncertainty, cut off from their families back home without knowing whether they are alive or dead, and are harassed by Chinese security agents with threats against their family back home if they speak out against these atrocities. The world has to date largely remained silent over this genocide due to economic ties with China in the era of globalization. In reflecting upon this situation, the question remains: Who has the courage to speak up and act against this totalitarian regime of the Chinese Communist Party which is committing one of the worst genocides of the twenty-first century before it is too late to repeat the chilling warning of “Never Again?”
