Book Travel Plans for New Residential Developments Insights from Theory and Practice

Download or read book Travel Plans for New Residential Developments Insights from Theory and Practice written by Chris De Gruyter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis explores the use of travel plans for new residential developments as a tool for managing car use and encouraging the use of more sustainable forms of transport. It provides coverage of the scale of travel planning practice for new developments, industry perspectives on their development and implementation, and an assessment of their quality and effectiveness. It combines implementation theory and planning enforcement theory to identify opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of travel plans for new residential developments and to guide future travel planning practice. This thesis is useful and will appeal to both researchers and practitioners involved in transport planning for new residential developments.

Book The Transportation land Use Connection

Download or read book The Transportation land Use Connection written by Terry Moore and published by American Planning Association. This book was released on 2007 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communities that integrate transportation and land-use policies are better able to manage growth, improve the efficiency of travel, and contain infrastructure costs. Highways have shaped America's growth--and will continue to do so--but highways have a big problem: congestion. Building more roads rarely solves this problem, at least, not for long, but changes in the way we approach transportation and land-use planning might. This report examines the need for public-sector investment in land-use and transportation development and the tools and techniques planners can use to integrate transportation and land use. It looks at the forces shaping cities and their transportation systems, frameworks for evaluating transportation and land-use policies, and the role of regional comprehensive plans. The book's unique format makes it easy to skim, gleaning the basics and finding the specific information you need. Appendices cover congestion pricing, microeconomic analysis, benefit-cost analysis, and more.

Book Integrating Transportation and Land Use Planning

Download or read book Integrating Transportation and Land Use Planning written by Susan J. Obermayer and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in the transportation system have a large influence on urban development patterns. The lacation, type, and intensity of urban land uses also affet the urban street and highway system. Various federal and state initiatives have been taken to more closely link trasportation and land use. These include the following: The Traffic Congestion Management System (CMS) mandated by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA). The CMS regulators specifically state that state and local agencies must address existing congestion and avoid potential future congestion. This clearly implies that the impact of land use and development decisions on transportation must be more effectively addressed than in the past. State-manadated growth management requirements such as those in Oregon, Washington, Florida, and Vermont. State-manadated local planning which must meet state criteria as those in Florida, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Oregon. State-mandated congestion management which requires that the impact of proposed development must be assessed and provides penalties if development that degrades congestion is approved by a local government (California). Access management practicies administered by the state highway agency which are designed to protect the public investment in major state roadways (Colorado, Florida, and New Jersey). In order to address traffic congestion problems, many municipaltiies have implemented travel demand ordinances which are intended to reduce drive-alone auto use and encourage ridesharing and transit. In other locations, such requirements have been, or are being, implemented in response to federal clean air requirements.

Book Urban Transport XIV

Download or read book Urban Transport XIV written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transportation in cities, with its related environmental and social concerns continues to be a topic of the utmost priority for urban authorities and central governments around the world. Frequently, the concern is not orderly but driven by the safety crises, which take place regularly, and even the best-planned urban transport systems require considerable studies to safeguard their safety, maintenance and operational use. On a broader front, the continuing need for better urban transport systems in general and the need for a healthier environment has led to an increased level of research around the world. This is reflected in the proceedings of the Thirteenth International Conference on Urban Transport and the Environment in the 21st Century, which stresses the continuous steady growth and research into the urban transport systems control aspects, information and imulation systems. All these topics continue to be of importance for analyzing the complex inter-relation of the urban transport environment and for establishing action strategies for transport and traffic problems. Of interest to engineers, scientists and managers working in industry, universities, research organizations and government involved in the planning and management of urban transportation systems and transport policy, this book contains papers within the following subject areas: Environmental and ecological considerations; Information systems and GPS applications; Intelligent transport systems; Intermodel passenger transport systems; Land use and transport integration; Modality in freight; Public transport systems; Road pricing; Traffic management; Transport automation; Transport logistics and operations research; Transport modelling and simulation; Transport security and safety; Transport sustainability; Transport technology; Urban transport planning.
