Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book excerpt: This book offers the first strong evidence of the existence of CP violation in neutral B decays extracted from sophisticated B factories in the US and Japan. It also holds out the expectation of rare B decays and D, K physics in the near future. In addition, new physics beyond the Standard Model is described. Both experimental and theoretical points of view are given.
Download or read book Flavor Mixing in Weak Interactions written by Ling-Lie Chau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 50-year history of weak interaction since Fermi's pro posal of this coupling has been marked with striking direct inter plays between experimental results and theoretical understanding, e.g. the discoveries of neutrinos, parity violation, and CP vio lation. The recent discoveries of the quark hierarchy, the charm and the beauty, and the intermediate vector bosons W± and ZO have truly made a splendid page in the history of particle physics. It is the purpose of this conference to discuss the questions of quark and lepton generations and mixing, their relations to CP violation, and to ask the questions about what are inside the quarks and the leptons in view of the present and future exper imental situation. Dr. Ling-Lie Chau Brookhaven National Laboratory Upton, New York vii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS I would like to thank all the Advisory and Organizing Committee members for their advice and suggestions during the organization of the conference. Download or read book Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics written by Zohreh Parsa and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2000-12-21 with total page 1058 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this meeting, as with the six previous conferences in this series, was to bring together particle and nuclear physicists to share scientific reports and discuss areas of research which overlap both disciplines. The need for such an interdisciplinary conference was recognized by Alan D. Krisch and Malcolm H. MacFarlane, founding fathers of the CIPANP series. Its relevance has steadily grown as the areas of overlap between particle and nuclear physics have increased. In addition, the success of the standard model has provided a common underpinning for both disciplines as well as similar fundamental goals. Indeed, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) has proven to be "the" theory of strong interactions. As such, it forms the basis for nuclear physics as well as high energy hadronic interactions. Topics included are: QCD spectroscopy and dynamics, relativistic heavy ions, QCD and nuclear structure, lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron scattering, heavy quark and heavy lepton physics, spin physics, nuclear and particle astrophysics, neutrinos, accelerators, facilities and detectors, as well as tests of fundamental symmetries.

Download or read book Heavy Flavor Physics Proceedings Of The Seventh International Symposium written by Claudio Campagnari and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-11-15 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The physics of heavy flavors is a very active area of research in experimental and theoretical high energy physics. A number of heavy flavor experiments at new or upgraded accelerators are just coming on line to address some of the most fundamental questions of particle physics, e.g. matter-anti-matter asymmetry (CP violation). The Seventh International Symposium on Heavy Flavor Physics focused primarily on the physics of bottom and charmed quarks, but there were also sessions on the top quark and the tau lepton. It presented a great opportunity to take stock of the field on the eve of the new era in heavy flavor physics which will be opened up by the next generation of experiments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first open access volume of the handbook series contains articles on the standard model of particle physics, both from the theoretical and experimental perspective. It also covers related topics, such as heavy-ion physics, neutrino physics and searches for new physics beyond the standard model. A joint CERN-Springer initiative, the "Particle Physics Reference Library" provides revised and updated contributions based on previously published material in the well-known Landolt-Boernstein series on particle physics, accelerators and detectors (volumes 21A, B1,B2,C), which took stock of the field approximately one decade ago. Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access
