Book Behavioural and Network Impacts of Driver Information Systems

Download or read book Behavioural and Network Impacts of Driver Information Systems written by Richard Emmerink and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1999, this volume contains a systematic collection of both theoretical and applied studies on user information systems for road users. It is generally expected that reliable information offered to road users will improve the use of scarce capacity on transport networks but from a research perspective the question arises whether the provision of such hard and software will influence the behaviour of road users to such an extent that a more desirable traffic situation will emerge. The book contains European, American and Asian contributions and presents advances and findings in the field of theoretical, simulation and empricial models on driver information systems and behaviour, whilst also paying attention to the design of such systems.

Book International Symposium for Intelligent Transportation and Smart City ITASC 2017 Proceedings

Download or read book International Symposium for Intelligent Transportation and Smart City ITASC 2017 Proceedings written by Xiaoqing Zeng and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents research advances in intelligent transportation and smart cities in detail, mainly focusing on green traffic and urban utility tunnels, presented at the 3rd International Symposium for Intelligent Transportation and Smart City (ITASC) held at Tongji University, Shanghai, on May 19–20, 2017. It discusses a number of hot topics, such as the 2BMW system (Bus, Bike, Metro and Walking), transportation safety and environmental protection, urban utility design and application, as well as the application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in city design. By connecting the theory and applications of intelligent transportation in smart cities, it enhances traffic efficiency and quality. The book gathers numerous selected papers and lectures, including contributions from respected scholars and the latest engineering advances, to provide guidance to researchers in the field of transportation and urban planning at universities and in related industries. The first conference in the ITASC series started in 2013 as a workshop of The International Symposium on Autonomous Decentralized System (ISADS), held in Mexico City, and the second was held in May 2015, in Tongji University, Shanghai.

Book Advances in Dynamic Network Modeling in Complex Transportation Systems

Download or read book Advances in Dynamic Network Modeling in Complex Transportation Systems written by Satish V. Ukkusuri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-21 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book focuses on recent developments in Dynamic Network Modeling, including aspects of route guidance and traffic control as they relate to transportation systems and other complex infrastructure networks. Dynamic Network Modeling is generally understood to be the mathematical modeling of time-varying vehicular flows on networks in a fashion that is consistent with established traffic flow theory and travel demand theory. Dynamic Network Modeling as a field has grown over the last thirty years, with contributions from various scholars all over the field. The basic problem which many scholars in this area have focused on is related to the analysis and prediction of traffic flows satisfying notions of equilibrium when flows are changing over time. In addition, recent research has also focused on integrating dynamic equilibrium with traffic control and other mechanism designs such as congestion pricing and network design. Recently, advances in sensor deployment, availability of GPS-enabled vehicular data and social media data have rapidly contributed to better understanding and estimating the traffic network states and have contributed to new research problems which advance previous models in dynamic modeling. A recent National Science Foundation workshop on “Dynamic Route Guidance and Traffic Control” was organized in June 2010 at Rutgers University by Prof. Kaan Ozbay, Prof. Satish Ukkusuri , Prof. Hani Nassif, and Professor Pushkin Kachroo. This workshop brought together experts in this area from universities, industry and federal/state agencies to present recent findings in this area. Various topics were presented at the workshop including dynamic traffic assignment, traffic flow modeling, network control, complex systems, mobile sensor deployment, intelligent traffic systems and data collection issues. This book is motivated by the research presented at this workshop and the discussions that followed.

Book Structural Bridge Engineering

Download or read book Structural Bridge Engineering written by Shahiron Shahidan and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books on preliminary studies and research in bridge design as well as basic knowledge on bridge engineering, but most books supply the needs of practicing engineers who may have problems in estimating, designing or constructing suspension bridges. Therefore, this book is intended to serve as a source of information for problems related to bridge engineering including sustainable bridge development, traditional approaches and recent advances in highway bridge traffic loading, aesthetic analysis issues in designing a new bridge, applications of various methods for the dissipation of seismic energy for bridges, new technologies of bridge design as well as structural identification of bridges using non-destructive experimental measurement tests.

Book Transport Systems and Policy

Download or read book Transport Systems and Policy written by Peter Nijkamp and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport and mobility are critical for the economic development of cities and regions and are a key factor in achieving sustained economic growth. This collection brings together Peter Nijkamp's influential work in the areas of transport systems and transport policy. The first part offers new theoretical insights and a review of the state-of-the-art in transportation science. The essays address issues such as the costs and benefits of transport, the role of price in transport demand, the impact of information and the potential of congestion pricing. The second part focuses attention on the modelling of transport systems. The third part comprises papers on transport infrastructure and includes studies on the impact of infrastructure and superstructure on economic growth, the costs of infrastructure construction, the evaluation of airport expansion and airport efficiency. The final part considers issues of public policy, including governance principles for sustainable urban transport, welfare implications of information policy, the economic consequences of airline deregulation, the use of policy scenarios for the far future and the transferability of transport policy to other areas. This collection will be essential reading for scholars and students interested in all aspects of transport research and policy.
