Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Weber takes readers back to church in his latest drama-filled novel, the much-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestseller, The Choir Director. It's been three years since Aaron Mackie succeeded in helping his friend and mentor, Bishop T.K. Wilson, dig his ministry out of financial ruin. Aaron is also responsible for re-energizing the almost defunct choir into something special. His success has drawn national attention, and he's on the verge of signing a huge recording contract. With his life in order, Aaron decides the time is right to propose to Tia Gregory, the church secretary who caught his eye and inspired him to shed his Tiger Woods-like tendencies to become a one-woman man. The stage is set for what might be the wedding of the year, but quickly becomes the disaster of the year when Aaron is left at the altar without explanation. Now, during his own hour of need, Aaron turns to the bishop for help. Unfortunately, the line he asks T. K. to cross will force the bishop to choose between faith and friendship, or as he puts it, "between heaven and hell." As the investigation into Tia's disappearance continues, the two men are challenged in ways they never imagined.

Book Equipping the Church Choir for Ministry

Download or read book Equipping the Church Choir for Ministry written by Eli Wilson, Jr. and published by . This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is Volume 2 of a three-part series on active/active systems. It describes techniques that can be used today for extending system failure times from years to centuries, often at little or no additional cost. As our daily lives and corporate well-being become more dependent upon computers, system reliability grows increasingly important. No longer are frequent system outages acceptable. In many cases, failure intervals must now be measured in centuries. Starting with a summary of Volume 1, techniques for achieving extraordinary availabilities are reviewed. These techniques use active/active architectures, in which multiple independent nodes using a common distributed database are cooperating in a common application. Should a node fail, all that is required is to switch the users on that node to a surviving node. Equally important to the achievement of high availability is the ability to upgrade the system hardware and software without denying service to the users. The procedures to do this within an active/active system are described. The secret to high availability is to let it fail, but fix it fast. This volume explores the server, database, and network redundancy techniques that allow fast-fix to happen. The cost considerations involved in such redundant architectures are also explored.

Book excerpt: “In this one-of-a-kind celebration of singing with others, I’d call her pitch nearly perfect.”—The Atlantic For Stacy Horn, regardless of what is going on in the world or her life, singing in an amateur choir—the Choral Society of Grace Church in New York—never fails to take her to a place where hope reigns and everything good is possible. She’s not particularly religious, and her voice is not exceptional (so she says), but like the 32.5 million other chorus members throughout this country, singing makes her happy. Horn brings us along as she sings some of the greatest music humanity has ever produced, delves into the dramatic stories of conductors and composers, unearths the fascinating history of group singing, and explores remarkable discoveries from the new science of singing, including all the unexpected health benefits. Imperfect Harmony is the story of one woman who has found joy and strength in the weekly ritual of singing and in the irresistible power of song.

He faces a world of gender issues that he hadn't expected, and explores a universe way larger than anything he's experienced so far.
