Book In Search of Shared Wishes

Download or read book In Search of Shared Wishes written by Mansour Noorbakhsh and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-03-22 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Why do walls extend as far as a prisoner escapes? How do wars mirror free will?” These are some of the key questions that Mansour Noorbakhsh asks us in his debut poetry book, In Search of Shared Wishes. Dedicated to the child victims of war, this epic and lyric poem arises from Noorbakhsh’s ruminations about the vital signs of a peaceful world, and how these signs have been damaged by systems of corruption and war. Told through multiple perspectives—including that of an angel who has come to Earth to save it from its own destruction—In Search of Shared Wishes creates a dialogue about fear, violence, and free will. Multicultural legends and literary allusions are interwoven throughout the text, producing a diversified and rich understanding of identity and history. It is Mansour Noorbakhsh’s hope that his writing and expressive working through of difficult topics will encourage readers to think critically and empathetically about our current world in crisis, fostering a discussion of love and compassion so that the vital signs of a peaceful world can be restored.

Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara's great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man. A scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison. The ruined man behind the wall hides himself from the world. The last thing he expects is to find a friend in the selfless girl who speaks to him through the cracks in the rock. The girl who makes him wish for things he has long since given up on. The girl who strikes both fear and hope within his wounded heart. Download or read book Shared Experience written by Luciana Nissim Momigliano and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a way to formulate, from several points of view, "Psychoanalysis as an encounter between two persons", and highlights the aspects of symmetry and affective exchange of this encounter where analysis is seen as a relationship between two minds. In this shared experience the study of the mind of the Analyst and of his method of work grows in importance as the source of benefits and misdirections which can be exchanged in the encounter with the patient. In this context, the patient has an active role as an attentive and sensitive observer of the Analyst, signaling errors and showing the road to be taken. This change in the concept of psychoanalysis has evolved through many years; from the Analyst acting to open the patient within himself, while at the same time struggling against his own resistance to change, to a vision of a "Couple at Work". Psychoanalysis is now a "shared experience", in which the listening and creating of internal space to the other, within the self, is the instrument and the journey.

Book Transforming Technologies to Manage Our Information

Download or read book Transforming Technologies to Manage Our Information written by William Jones and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With its theme, "Our Information, Always and Forever," Part I of this book covers the basics of personal information management (PIM) including six essential activities of PIM and six (different) ways in which information can be personal to us. Part I then goes on to explore key issues that arise in the "great migration" of our information onto the Web and into a myriad of mobile devices. Part 2 provides a more focused look at technologies for managing information that promise to profoundly alter our practices of PIM and, through these practices, the way we lead our lives. Part 2 is in five chapters: - Chapter 5. Technologies of Input and Output. Technologies in support of gesture, touch, voice, and even eye movements combine to support a more natural user interface (NUI). Technologies of output include glasses and "watch" watches. Output will also increasingly be animated with options to "zoom". - Chapter 6. Technologies to Save Our Information. We can opt for "life logs" to record our experiences with increasing fidelity. What will we use these logs for? And what isn’t recorded that should be? - Chapter 7. Technologies to Search Our Information. The potential for personalized search is enormous and mostly yet to be realized. Persistent searches, situated in our information landscape, will allow us to maintain a diversity of projects and areas of interest without a need to continually switch from one to another to handle incoming information. - Chapter 8. Technologies to Structure Our Information. Structure is key if we are to keep, find, and make effective use of our information. But how best to structure? And how best to share structured information between the applications we use, with other people, and also with ourselves over time? What lessons can we draw from the failures and successes in web-based efforts to share structure? - Chapter 9. PIM Transformed and Transforming: Stories from the Past, Present and Future. Part 2 concludes with a comparison between Licklider’s world of information in 1957 and our own world of information today. And then we consider what the world of information is likely to look like in 2057. Licklider estimated that he spent 85% of his "thinking time" in activities that were clerical and mechanical and might (someday) be delegated to the computer. What percentage of our own time is spent with the clerical and mechanical? What about in 2057?

Book Essential Papers on Literature and Psychoanalysis

Download or read book Essential Papers on Literature and Psychoanalysis written by Emanuel Berman and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a draft attached to a letter to his friend and confidante Wilhelm Fliess (May 31, 1897), Freud develops an idea: The mechanism of fiction is the same as that of hysterical fantasies. He supports this thought with a brief analysis of the biographical sources of Goethe's Werther. A few months later, on October 15, 1897, Freud mails Fliess a detailed account of remembered events from his childhood that, Freud believed, underlined the universality of Oedipus Rex and Hamlet. Freud's foray into literature initiated the beginning of a new critical approach. In Essential Papers on Literature and Psychoanalysis, Emanuel Berman presents classic and contemporary papers written at the intersection of literature and psychoanalysis. In bringing these essays together Berman traces the development of a discipline that has often been plagued by a polarization between self-confident, single-minded psychoanalysts reading literature as a series of case studies and literary loyalists who cling to manifest content or to the declared intentions of the authors, accepting them at face value and depriving the work of its emotional complexity. Berman covers the full range of old and new perspectives, and presents selections from today's mature phase. This collection includes papers by Sigmund Freud, Steven Marcus, Patrick J. Mahoney, Donald Spence, Otto Rank, Ernest Jones, Ernst Kris, Phyllis Greenacre, Florence Bonime and Maryanne Eckardt, David Werman, Ellen Handler Spitz, Jacques Lacan, Shoshana Felman, Norman N. Holland, Roy Schafer, Meredith Anne Skura, Gail S. Reed, Francis Baudry, Rivka R. Eifermann, and Bennett Simon.
