Book excerpt: The Daigen Project altered Taeru's DNA when he was just four years old. Now he's an 18-year-old super-soldier with formidable skills and hardly any experience with the outside world. When his best friend, Sky, suddenly disappears with no explanation, Taeru refuses to believe she's actually dead. During an unexpected attack from the Enlightenment, Taeru uses the attack as a diversion to escape and search for her.But escape is not that easy. He finds himself aboard the Temerity and must now prove his worth to stay. But the Captain, Edith McKarmick, knows harboring a Daigen could lead to the death of her crew. Will she turn him back over to the Daigen Project for a reward? Or risk being found by the Enlightenment, a radical organization that hunts down and kills his kind and anyone who protects them?Come enjoy the ride as comic artist Chad Hardin and writer Jemma M. Young combine their talents to tell one incredible story of mechas, brain hacking, and terrible pun t-shirts. The result is a high-adventure intergalactic romp with a heavy dose of humor and a whole lot of temerity.

Book Reconstructing Obesity

Download or read book Reconstructing Obesity written by Megan B. McCullough and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the crowded and busy arena of obesity and fat studies, there is a lack of attention to the lived experiences of people, how and why they eat what they do, and how people in cross-cultural settings understand risk, health, and bodies. This volume addresses the lacuna by drawing on ethnographic methods and analytical emic explorations in order to consider the impact of cultural difference, embodiment, and local knowledge on understanding obesity. It is through this reconstruction of how obesity and fatness are studied and understood that a new discussion will be introduced and a new set of analytical explorations about obesity research and the effectiveness of obesity interventions will be established.

Book John Wesley Hardin

Download or read book John Wesley Hardin written by Leon Claire Metz and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thus spoke one lawman about John Wesley Hardin, easily the most feared and fearless of all the gunfighters in the West. Nobody knows the exact number of his victims-perhaps as few as twenty or as many as fifty. In his way of thinking, Hardin never shot a man who did not deserve it. Seeking to gain insight into Hardin’s homicidal mind, Leon Metz describes how Hardin’s bloody career began in post-Civil War Central Texas, when lawlessness and killings were commonplace, and traces his life of violence until his capture and imprisonment in 1878. After numerous unsuccessful escape attempts, Hardin settled down and received a pardon years later in 1895. He wrote an autobiography but did not live to see it published. Within a few months of his release, John Selman gunned him down in an El Paso saloon.
