Book In Our Righteous Might

Download or read book In Our Righteous Might written by Charles Vaughn and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story about a generation that would suffer through the hardship of a great depression. They would not know at the time, but that struggle would be the foundation they would need to meet the greater challenge of World War II. I dedicate this book to my father, Donald Raymond Vaughn, and mother, LaVaun Martha Mitchell Vaughn, whom the inspiration, as well as the story, comes from. They were simple hardworking young adults who were beginning their lives as one family when the war in Europe came to America. Like so many young couples, they were looking forward to the future away from the depression where they could live, prosper, and begin their lives. But this generation would set aside their personal goals and go without question to war. Not because they wanted to, not for the glory of the fight, but because their generation understood that they had an obligation to rid the world of the hatred of a madman. This is one familys story, one that could mirror millions of others who were, like them, the greatest generation of the twentieth century.

Book excerpt: Make Your Message Resonate For far too long, the radical right has controlled messaging for elections big and small in many right-leaning battleground states where Democrats regularly face challenges. This book provides some steps to assist you in combating that unacceptable norm and will help you identify simple and strategic ways to make your message resonate across the political spectrum. I hope that no matter your position with your state party (chairperson, employee, or volunteer) you use the advice offered in the following pages to support your efforts. - Kelly Paisley, former Arizona Democratic Party Chief of Staff

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The acclaimed social psychologist challenges conventional thinking about morality, politics, and religion in a way that speaks to conservatives and liberals alike—a “landmark contribution to humanity’s understanding of itself” (The New York Times Book Review). Drawing on his twenty-five years of groundbreaking research on moral psychology, Jonathan Haidt shows how moral judgments arise not from reason but from gut feelings. He shows why liberals, conservatives, and libertarians have such different intuitions about right and wrong, and he shows why each side is actually right about many of its central concerns. In this subtle yet accessible book, Haidt gives you the key to understanding the miracle of human cooperation, as well as the curse of our eternal divisions and conflicts. If you’re ready to trade in anger for understanding, read The Righteous Mind.

Download or read book Indomitable Will written by Charles Kupfer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-04-05 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the worst military disasters in U.S. history occurred between Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the Battle of Midway in June 1942. During this period, the American people faced a barrage of bad news and accounts of defeats and retreats. Yet if they were shocked and dismayed, they showed little panic. Indomitable Will resurrects the legacy of this first half-year of American combat during WWII -a legacy of pain, but not of woe. Historian Charles Kupfer recounts the story of the war's early defeats: Bataan, Corregidor, Wake Island, and the Java Sea. Some of these battles remain evocative today; others are obscure; all were catastrophes for American arms. Kupfer asserts, however, that later victories were made inevitable by the steeling effect of those initial disasters. Weaving together military, journalistic, political, and cultural histories, this engaging book shows that by setting their collective will on victory, Americans in and out of uniform gained strength from their setbacks. Indomitable Will spells out how the nation turned early defeat into ultimate victory.

Book Feasting at Wisdom s Table

Download or read book Feasting at Wisdom s Table written by Joseph W. Cowan and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-11-22 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you know the secret to access the most important thing a human being can possess? It cannot be purchased with gold or silver in a shop or department store or online. It is not found in the university or any other school established by mankind. It’s origin is not in the world of politics or government or in any human institution. It truly is a rare commodity among the people of the earth. It is where freedom, life, love, hope, faith, purity, truth, goodness, and peace abounds. Do you know about this greatest of all possessions? Do you know what it is? Wisdom leads you to it. Wisdom shows you where it is. Wisdom knows it. Are you listening to wisdom? She cries out daily to the children of mankind, and invites us to spend some time with her. She has a magnificent table set, and invites us to dine with her. She has something for us to discover. It is holy, and like His Name, it is incomprehensible. It is deeply personal and richly intimate. It gives substantial meaning to our existence.. It is our only salvation. It is an authentic relationship with the Personal God, who made the universe. Intimacy with the living God is what this book is about. It’s what Proverbs is about. Come to dinner and partake.

Book Those Practical Proverbs

Download or read book Those Practical Proverbs written by David A. Balsley and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those Practical Proverbs is a verse-by-verse commentary on the book of Proverbs from a pastor’s perspective. It begins with an exploration of the authorship of Proverbs—most of which was written by King Solomon, with brief sections by Agur, the son of Jakeh, and the words of King Lemuel (from an oracle, which his mother taught him). It proceeds to an explanation of the structure of Hebrew poetry, a list of some of the topics addressed in the book, and an outline of the book. The opening chapters of Proverbs (1–9) consist of longer “wisdom poems” on a variety of significant subjects. Most chapters of Proverbs consist of single-verse observations concerning many of life’s practical concerns (with occasional multiverse entries). The book concludes with the entries of Agur and King Lemuel and, finally, the classic alphabetic acrostic poem regarding the “excellent wife.” Because the book focuses largely on the wisdom and understanding, which find their origin in the fear of the Lord, it is among the most life-enriching books ever written. It is extremely important for anyone who longs for practical guidance in the many issues of life.
