Book Quality Impact of Home Care for the Elderly

Download or read book Quality Impact of Home Care for the Elderly written by Francis G. Caro and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A milestone in the evolution of home health care for the elderly Focusing on one of our society's most pressing concerns--home health care for the elderly--this important new book examines the implications for consumers of long term care and reports on the efforts to use survey research to measure the consequences of home care for recipients and informal caregivers. Long-term care is a serious issue in the 1980s as the entire health system is being shaken by rapid changes in financing, technology, and patient and professional expectations; there are more people than ever before who require some home health care for long periods of time beyond that available from conventional medical systems. The far-reaching studies explored in this book provide a substantial intellectual, factual, and conceptual foundation to further the evolution of home care in directions that permit it to match the medical system on more even terms. Conducted by the Community Service Society of New York, this timely research combines field observation with quantitative analyses to answer questions; of special significance is the development of both the concept and the techniques for applying measures of quality of circumstances in health and social provision.

Book Improving the Quality of Long Term Care

Download or read book Improving the Quality of Long Term Care written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2001-02-27 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the issues confronting America is long-term care for frail, older persons and others with chronic conditions and functional limitations that limit their ability to care for themselves. Improving the Quality of Long-Term Care takes a comprehensive look at the quality of care and quality of life in long-term care, including nursing homes, home health agencies, residential care facilities, family members and a variety of others. This book describes the current state of long-term care, identifying problem areas and offering recommendations for federal and state policymakers. Who uses long-term care? How have the characteristics of this population changed over time? What paths do people follow in long term care? The committee provides the latest information on these and other key questions. This book explores strengths and limitations of available data and research literature especially for settings other than nursing homes, on methods to measure, oversee, and improve the quality of long-term care. The committee makes recommendations on setting and enforcing standards of care, strengthening the caregiving workforce, reimbursement issues, and expanding the knowledge base to guide organizational and individual caregivers in improving the quality of care.

Book Widows North America

Download or read book Widows North America written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens whene the husband dies depends on the society, on the location of the widow in urban-rural or class terms, and on the widow's own personal resources. In some societies the woman is totally dependent upon a grown son and cannot remarry; in others, such as that in the United States, she is more dependent upon her own resouces and wishes. For some, widowhood results in a great loss of status; for others, it can mean loneliness and social isolation. Yet widowhood can mean greater social freedom for some women, a "blooming of personality. Even grief is experienced in various ways and degrees. Thus there is no such thing as a "widow type," only a great heterogenity in widowhood, as in "wifehood." Volume I analyzes the support systems and life-styles of widows in Australia, the Philippines, Korea, Iran, China, a Pacific island, India, Turkey, and Israel. Volume II : North America examines two communities in Canada, a Florida retirement community, and communities in several other locations, as well as the relative situations of homeowners, blacks, and poor ethnic populations.

This book was released on 2018-07-11 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chronic homelessness is a highly complex social problem of national importance. The problem has elicited a variety of societal and public policy responses over the years, concomitant with fluctuations in the economy and changes in the demographics of and attitudes toward poor and disenfranchised citizens. In recent decades, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and the philanthropic community have worked hard to develop and implement programs to solve the challenges of homelessness, and progress has been made. However, much more remains to be done. Importantly, the results of various efforts, and especially the efforts to reduce homelessness among veterans in recent years, have shown that the problem of homelessness can be successfully addressed. Although a number of programs have been developed to meet the needs of persons experiencing homelessness, this report focuses on one particular type of intervention: permanent supportive housing (PSH). Permanent Supportive Housing focuses on the impact of PSH on health care outcomes and its cost-effectiveness. The report also addresses policy and program barriers that affect the ability to bring the PSH and other housing models to scale to address housing and health care needs.
