Book excerpt: The footprints were etched in the snow for miles, passing through walls and crossing rivers…appearing on the other side as though no barrier could stop them. In 1922 a farmer in Adamant, Arkansas, awakes to a noise on his roof and finds his snow-blanketed yard marked with thousands of cloven footprints. The prints vanish with the melting snow…only to reappear seventy years later near the gruesome killing of Rachel DeLaune. Years after her sister’s unsolved murder, New Orleans tattoo artist Sarah DeLaune is haunted by the mysteries of her past. Sarah has always believed that her sister was killed by a man named Ashe Cain. But no one else had ever seen Ashe. He had “appeared” to Sarah when she needed a friend the most, only to vanish on the night of her sister’s murder. The past bleeds into the present when two mutilated bodies are found near Sarah’s home, the crime scene desecrated by cloven footprints.

Book Two Small Footprints in Wet Sand

Download or read book Two Small Footprints in Wet Sand written by Anne-Dauphine Julliand and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-02-10 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thaïs is almost two. Like most well-loved children, she is happy. She laughs as she runs on the beach. But her footprints in the sand, with toes turned out, tell a different story. Two Small Footprints in Wet Sand relates the overwhelming tragedy experienced by a family as a result of a genetic disorder. A true tale told by a mother, it’s the story of a little girl, of family, friends, and the medical community united to define life by its beauty rather than its length. On the day Thaïs turns two, her mother, the author Anne-Dauphine Julliand, learns that her child has an untreatable genetic disease, the rarest of the rare, a silent disorder that will slowly paralyze her daughter’s nervous system and kill her. Metachromatic leukodystrophy—MLD—is the diagnosis. There is no cure. While the disease may be grim, neither this book nor the people in it are. Grace, dignity, and most of all love mark the lives of all those involved in the care of Thaïs. Julliand does not play down the pain of her child or of her family, or the exhaustion, discouragement, or burden each of them carries. She promises her daughter a full life—not a life like other children have—but a happy life, a life of love. Thaïs’s family and the medical staff around her fight to provide comfort and efficient care, to conserve her dignity, to give her love, to “add life to days when we cannot add days to life.” Skyhorse Publishing, along with our Arcade, Good Books, Sports Publishing, and Yucca imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. During his absence, Jenny and Daniel found solace in traditions on the reservation. A more prudent Austin steps cautiously into Seneca ways, until he meets Jack Nelson, an Anglo business owner married to Star of the Turtle clan. Jack becomes his guide into the mysteries of life on the reservation. Sightings of the spirit of Wren Welborne an early settler in the Lands of the Twin Springs compels Jenny to read the journal Daniel has discovered. Within the journal’s cover, she comes upon documentation vital to decades-old, land claims disputes. She must seek out legal experts in whom she could entrust this journal. A downturn in the business climate forces Austin to accept a promising position in Western Canada. With mixed emotions, Jenny and Daniel follow Austin to an up-scale, townhouse community near the university where Daniel is enrolled. In his first semester, Daniel encounters a segment of academia hostile to American influences on established Canadian culture. Trapped in the bitter cold and perpetual darkness of a far-north winter, Jenny becomes ill. Daniel is abducted; his friend, Raine a Métis gravely injured. Stick it out, or flee for their home country? Accommodations this family must come to.

Book excerpt: Dominated by a powerful founding family, a safe small-town cocoon resting on the fringe of Seneca/Iroquois sacred homelands conceals the secrets of the human heart, the wayward soul perpetuated through the years of habitation. In the Lands of the Twin Springs, native Seneca/Iroquois peoples maintained Sacred Home lands for many generations. When White settlers arrive in 1820 attempting to make a new life, a chain of events is set in motion involving cooperation and conflict that lasts for more than a century. Native or Quaker, shopkeeper or oil baron, the residents of the area will face decades of socioeconomic upheaval followed by cultural accommodation forced upon farm-to-market towns and expanding cities throughout an often-fractious United States. Based on historical events this novel, the first of a series, depicts a family saga originating in the Allegheny River Valley and spanning cultures and transplanted generations from the early eighteen hundreds into 1960.

Book Indelible Footprints

Download or read book Indelible Footprints written by Kay Nelson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Page | 2 I have been the recipient of a treasure chest of family heirlooms. There are old pictures, poems, genealogies, and stories. Because past generations were so faithful to preserve their family history, I felt compelled to preserve their “footprints.” My favorite heirloom is a metal crest that dates back to the 1200s. The stamp reveals a bird with writing in the Welsh language which, when translated, reads, “Faith in God makes all things right.” I have several unique things that the book contains, such as a contract with the Indians for land and a Civil War diary written by my great-grandfather. There are newspapers dated March of 1863 offering a bounty of $20,000 for the head of Lincoln. Poems were written by my grandmother depicting the emotional trauma she went through during World War II that came from my treasure chest. The stories of my uncles who were in that war one in the South Pacific and the other in Germany. There are stories of the French Huguenots, pioneers, Pilgrims, and Scotch Reformers that were imprisoned for their faith as well as stories of the devastation of the bubonic plague, both in England and in Germany. It also includes a piolet that transported the Apollo 13 astronauts. My linage contains, missionaries, preachers, and a preacher’s wife. Because former generations were faithful to preserve their history, I felt compelled to include their stories in the book, making their footprints indelible.
