Book ADIVASIDOM Selected writings speeches of Jaipal Singh Munda

Download or read book ADIVASIDOM Selected writings speeches of Jaipal Singh Munda written by Ashwini Kumar Pankaj and published by Pyara Kerketta Foundation. This book was released on 2017-06-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who was Jaipal Singh Munda? What was his political-intellectual contribution in Indian Independence and in building of a new India? What were the aspirations of the tribal society that Jaipal and other Tribal leaders were representing? Even after seventy years of Independence, history is silent on this. On one hand, there are hundreds of books, dramas and movies on many freedom fighters including Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah, Ambedkar, and still many more new books are coming on them every day, but there is not a single book on Jaipal Singh Munda. It was the native people, who had built this country by giving the great civilization of Harappa-Mohanjodaro to the humankind. Was their representative Jaipal Singh Munda so insignificant that not a single book could have been written on him? If, he was the real heir of the first freedom-loving community in the colonial India, who had always been at the top of all spheres of knowledge, creation and conflict. And if, he had been a worthy leader of distinguished talent, then what're the reasons for which he has been neglected to that extent? Although, he had been neglected at the pan-Indian level, the ruling class could not erase Jaipal Singh Munda from Adivasi society, its history and the politics of Jharkhand. It is because of continuous storm surging in the form of Jharkhand movement never let erased the contribution and leadership of Jaipal Singh Munda from its conscience of historical conflict.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Life and Times of Jaipal Singh Munda’ is a biography of the legendary leader; hockey genius—who as the Captain; led India Hockey Team to Gold at Amsterdam Summer Olympics; 1928; a voice of the voiceless Adivasis; a Member of the Constituent Assembly and a brain to Fifth Schedule and Sixth Schedule of the Constitution; an excellent orator and man who conceived to rescue ‘Jharkhand’ from the womb of history. An M.A. (Economics) from Oxford and an Oxford Hockey Blue; Jaipal quit coveted ICS career to lead Indian team at Olympics—only Olympics in history where the Gold medalist team did not concede a single goal to rivals in the entire tournament. Legendary Major Dhyan Chand was a member of this team. Though married into the family of Indian National Congress President W.C. Bonnerjee; Jaipal dared to go against his own in-laws and formed ‘Jharkhand Party’ in order to lead his ‘Adivasi’ people to statehood by literally becoming a thorn in the Congress politics. Jaipal was the President of Oxford Indian Majlis; a debating society. As the Principal of Rajkumar College; Raipur; Jaipal organised a football match in Calcutta; at which the school commoners played football with the royal princes of India.

Book The Political Life of Memory

Download or read book The Political Life of Memory written by Rahul Ranjan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the representation of Birsa's political life, memory politics and the making of anticolonialism in contemporary Jharkhand. It offers contrasting features of political imaginations deployed in developing memorial landscapes. Framing of Birsa in the heroic narrative through a grand scale of memorialisation, often in the form of the built environment, curates a selective version. This isolates the scope of elaborating his political ideas outside the confines of atypical historical records and their relevance in the contemporary context. The book argues that everyday politics through affective sites such as memorials and statues produce political visions, emotions, and opportunities. It shows how such symbolic sites are often strategically placed and politically motivated to inscribe ideologies. This process outlines how the state and Adivasi use memory as a political tool to lay claims to the past of the Birsa Movement.

Book A Nomad Called Thief

Download or read book A Nomad Called Thief written by G. N. Devy and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of essays on Adivasis. Tribal groups (adivasis) in India have often been excluded, marginalized and oppressed by `mainstream society. In many ways this exclusion, marginalization and oppression is fostered by the way in which `mainstream society looks at the adivasis as exotic, dangerous, or `primitive others. Devy s book looks at the problems of adivasis, the threat to their physical environment, the terror and indignity of the stigma of being considered criminal tribes and their induction into the communal violence in Gujarat. But he also discusses the simple sophistication of Adivasi knowledge systems, language and literature, as also initiatives taken along with tribals in the areas of health, microfinance and preservation of cultural forms.

Book The Jharkhand Movement

Download or read book The Jharkhand Movement written by Rāmadayāla Muṇḍā and published by IWGIA. This book was released on 2003 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jharkhand, the land of forest, named by the people of the neighboring plains, had been a safe haven of the indigenous peoples until the sixteenth century when the process of central state formation began to grow out of the nontribal matrix in the region. The states that emerged then fell under the direct influence and control of the great empires of successive periods that encroached upon the resources and lives of the indigenous peoples. They disrupted their egalitarian social system and their culture based upon a symbiotic relationship with their environment, forcing the indigenous people to retreat to even more inhospitable regions to rebuild their social structure. However, they were never able to fully escape the ever-increasing boundaries of the state, which eventually stripped the Jharkhand of its resources and left its people peasants. The modern Jharkhand movement, a continuation of the peoples' resistance to the encroaching state, has been widely covered in the media and academic circles. Various analytical reports, academic interpretations and political explanations, often holding contradictory views, have been published over a period exceeding the last five decades. The production of such a huge corpus of literature shows the strength of the movement, and the immense significance of the issues. Containing contributions by leading social scientists and activists, this volume furthers the discourse on the relationship between mainstream nationalism and the indigenous identity often termed ethnicity, as it relates to the nation state. In doing so, it helps civil society understand the relevance of autonomy and identity of the indigenous peoples of the country as a whole. Thebasic line of inquiry concerns the issues (dispossession from life supporting resources of land, forest, water and identity), the main cause (internal colonialism) and the remedy (provision of autonomy).

Book Behenji

Download or read book Behenji written by Ajoy Bose and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2009-03-09 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of Behenji, first published in 2008, examines Mayawati’s record as chief minister since 2007. It pinpoints the reasons behind the BSP’s poor performance in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, her return to the Dalit agenda prior to the 2012 assembly elections, as well as its surprising results. Also scrutinized are Mayawati’s performance as a dalit leader and administrator, besides the rampant corruption and failure of her social engineering project during these years. Though no longer likely to become prime minister, the author sees Mayawati playing a pivotal role in UP, and, indeed, Indian politics post the 2014 elections.
