Book Handbook of Materials for Wind Musical Instruments

Download or read book Handbook of Materials for Wind Musical Instruments written by Voichita Bucur and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 819 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses key questions about the materials used for the wind instruments of classical symphony orchestra such as flutes, clarinets, saxophones, oboes, bassoons and pipe organs. The content of this book is structured into four parts. Part 1- Description of materials for wind instruments deals with wood species and materials for reeds used for making clarinet, oboe and bassoon- and, with metallic materials and alloys for - horn, trumpet, trombone, etc. Auxiliary materials associated with the manufacturing of wind instruments are felt, cork, leather and parchment. Part 2- Basic acoustics of wind instruments, in which are presented succinctly, some pertinent aspects related to the physics of the resonant air column. An important aspect discussed is related to the effect of wall material on the vibration modes of the walls of wind instruments. The methods for measuring the acoustical properties of wind instruments are presented. Part 3- Manufacturing of wind instruments, describes the technology used in manufacturing metallic tubes and pipes made of wood. Part 4 - The durability and degradation of materials addresses data about methods for cleaning wind instruments, studies factors producing degradation of organ pipes, describes methods of conservation and restoration of brass instruments and of historical pipe organs. Finally, the properties of marble are described, being the only one nondegradable and sustainable material used for pipes for organs.

Book Directional Room Impulse Response Measurement

Download or read book Directional Room Impulse Response Measurement written by Johannes Klein and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measured room impulse responses are inextricably linked with the distinct directivity patterns of the applied sources and receivers. In room acoustic measurements, the directivity is often disregarded or intentionally smoothed, waiving detailed information about single reflection paths, also denying the possibility of analyzing and auralizing the acoustic scene in relation to specific real-world sources and receivers. The measurement of directional room impulse responses as a set of measurements with unique directivity patterns can compensate for these shortcomings, retaining the information about the acoustic properties of a room in connection with directional information. Ideally, a directional room impulse response measurement consists of a single session and allows for the flexibility of choosing the desired directivity patterns in post-processing by combining different impulse response sub-sets. Such a procedure requires specialized measurement arrays. The lack of knowledge about the required level of directional detail, physical constraints of the array construction, and expected measurement artifacts hinder and feed-back into the development of the instruments and methods. This thesis explores these requirements and limits, focusing primarily on the design of suitable sources allowing for directional room impulse response measurement procedures with variable directivity.

Book Handbook of Acoustics

Download or read book Handbook of Acoustics written by Malcolm J. Crocker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-03-09 with total page 1494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acoustical engineers, researchers, architects, and designers need a comprehensive, single-volume reference that provides quick and convenient access to important information, answers and questions on a broad spectrum of topics, and helps solve the toughest problems in acoustical design and engineering. The Handbook of Acoustics meets that need. It offers concise coverage of the science and engineering of acoustics and vibration. In more than 100 clearly written chapters, experts from around the world share their knowledge and expertise in topics ranging from basic aerodynamics and jet noise to acoustical signal processing, and from the interaction of fluid motion and sound to infrasound, ultrasonics, and quantum acoustics. Topics covered include: * General linear acoustics * Nonlinear acoustics and cavitation * Aeroacoustics and atmospheric sound * Mechanical vibrations and shock * Statistical methods in acoustics * Architectural acoustics * Physiological acoustics * Underwater sound * Ultrasonics, quantum acoustics, and physical aspects of sound * Noise: its effects and control * Acoustical signal processing * Psychological acoustics * Speech communication * Music and musical acoustics * Acoustical measurements and instrumentation * Transducers The Handbook of Acoustics belongs on the reference shelf of every engineer, architect, research scientist, or designer with a professional interest in the propagation, control, transmission, and effects of sound.

Book Procedure and Instrumentation for Measuring Acoustic Impulses from Deployment of Automotive Inflatable Devices

Download or read book Procedure and Instrumentation for Measuring Acoustic Impulses from Deployment of Automotive Inflatable Devices written by Inflatable Restraints Committee and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide guidelines for selection of transducers, data acquisition systems, and other instrumentation as well as analysis methods to help ensure proper measurement and evaluation of acoustic impulses in automobiles. While this Recommended Practice focuses on automotive inflatable devices, such as, frontal airbag systems, pretensioners, inflatable curtains, side airbags, etc., it can be used for measurement of other impulsive sounds in a vehicle if needed. The objective is to achieve uniformity in instrumentation practice and reporting of test measurements. Use of this recommended practice should provide a basis for meaningful comparisons of test results from different sources. This recommended practice specifies procedures for static measurement of acoustic impulses, but due to the much more complicated nature of crash testing, does not specify procedures for measuring impulses in vehicles during crash tests. A complete review has been performed on this document. Numerous revisions were made to update the document with information developed since the last reaffirmation in 1987. Technological advances in instrumentation techniques, data acquisition methods, sensors and analysis techniques have been incorporated into this new revision. It is reasonable to consider this as a new document even though the number is the same and the goal of the document remains the same, nearly every section was revised according to state-of-the-art lab practice and instrumentation methods. After initial publication in November 2012, two issues came to light. The NOV2012 version had a broken hyperlink, and there was a typographical error in section 9.1.1.2.2.3. In this version of the Recommended Practice, the hyperlink was removed because the files to which it pointed are now included with the purchase of the Recommended Practice. The typographical errors were also amended.
