Book NEW Dual phase Steel Reinforcing Bars for Enhancing Capacity and Durability of Anti seismic Moment Resisting Frames NEWREBAR

Download or read book NEW Dual phase Steel Reinforcing Bars for Enhancing Capacity and Durability of Anti seismic Moment Resisting Frames NEWREBAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEWREBAR research project aims to develop a new typology of steel reinforcing bars provided by enhanced properties in terms of ductility and durability towards aggressive environmental conditions. The need of such kind of steels depends by the fact that the decrease of ductility both under monotonic and cyclic loading conditions was assessed for most of actual reinforcing steels (e.g. TempCore ) exposed to corrosion phenomena. During the project, two final reinforcing steel products were developed and industrially produced, called respectively DPF and DPD in relation to the specific chemical composition selected for their realization, almost aligned with what actually on market and therefore not related to production costs' increase. Results of experimental tests and correlations highlighted the improvement in terms of durability performance of Dual-Phase steel reinforcing grades concerning ductility (Agt mainly) respect to traditional TempCore grades, with higher residual values of deformation capacity and, therefore, benefit to the overall structural performance. With the aim of fully understanding the influence of Dual-Phase steel bars to RC constructions, several case study buildings were designed according the capacity design approach: numerical nonlinear models were elaborated to assess the buildings' behaviour through pushover or incremental dynamic analyses in which the nonlinear behaviour of elements was modelled using a lumped plasticity approach, where the moment/ rotation behaviour of hinges was calibrated basing on the results of experimental tests performed on full-scale prototypes. Basing on the results of both mechanical characterization of DP grades and numerical analyses' results, recommendations for the adoption of DP grades in RC constructions were elaborated, as well as indications for introduction in current European standards.

Book Dynamic Increase Factors for Steel Reinforcing Bars

Download or read book Dynamic Increase Factors for Steel Reinforcing Bars written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For reinforced concrete structures subjected to blast effects, response at very high strain rates (up to 1000 s-1) is often sought. At these high strain rates, the reinforcing bars yield stress can increase by 100%, or more, depending on the grade of steel used. The dynamic increase factor (DIF), i.e. the ratio of the dynamic to static value, is normally reported as function of strain rate. Knowledge of the DIF is of significant importance in the design and analysis of structures for explosives safety. DIF curves for both yield and ultimate strengths have been derived and published in manuals by the Tri-Services, the Defense Special Weapons Agency, the Air Force, and the Department of Energy. However, these curves are typically based on limited data, and even on data from steel bars of a different grade. A literature review of the effects of high strain rates on the properties of steel reinforcing bars (rebars) was conducted. Static and dynamic properties were gathered for bars satisfying ASTM A615, A15, A432, A431, and A706, with yield stresses ranging from 42 to 103 ksi (290 to 710 MPa). The data indicates that the DIF decreases for higher rebar yield stress, and that the DIF is higher for yield stress than for ultimate stress. A simple relationship is proposed that gives the DIF (for both yield and ultimate stress) as a function of strain rate and yield stress.

Book Variation in the Mechanical Properties of Reinforcing Bars Classic Reprint

Download or read book Variation in the Mechanical Properties of Reinforcing Bars Classic Reprint written by James Marion Whelan Jr. and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-07 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Variation in the Mechanical Properties of Reinforcing Bars The phenomenal development of reinforced concrete in the last few years has brought with it new materials, new methods, new structures, and consequently, many new problems. So rapid has been the advance in the use of concrete, that the proper working out of many of these problems has lagged far behind the need of their solution. Even the materials themselves have not been thoroughly standardized. It is true that the cement, sand, and stone, and the resulting concrete have been the subjects of much study and discussion and many questions concerning them have been settled. The quality of the steel reinforcement, how ever, has, until the last year or two, been neglected. The material used for the first reinforcing bars was the mild steel or low-carbon grade known as structural steel. This was natural as structural shapes were frequently used as rein forcement. Also, the properties of this mild steel were well known, and the mills were making it in large quantities, so that it was easy to obtain. It was early seen, however, that the maximum effective strength of the reinforcement depended upon the yield point of the material. Book Case Studies on Conservation and Seismic Strengthening Retrofitting of Existing Structures

Download or read book Case Studies on Conservation and Seismic Strengthening Retrofitting of Existing Structures written by Andreas Lampropoulos and published by International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent earthquakes have demonstrated that despite the continuous developments of novel materials and new strengthening techniques, the majority of the existing structures are still unprotected and at high seismic risk. The repair and strengthening framework is a complex process and there are often barriers in the preventative upgrade of the existing structures related to the cost of the applications and the limited expertise of the engineers. The engineers need to consider various options thoroughly and the selection of the appropriate strategy is a crucial parameter for the success of these applications. The main aim of this collection is to present a number of different approaches applied to a wide range of structures with different characteristics and demands acting as a practical guide for the main repair and strengthening approaches used worldwide. This document contains a collection of nine case studies from six different countries with different seismicity (i.e. Austria, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Nepal and New Zealand). Various types of structures have been selected with different structural peculiarities such as buildings used for different purposes (i.e. school buildings, town hall, 30 storey office tower), a bridge, and a wharf. Most of the examined structures are Reinforced Concrete structures while there is also an application on a Masonry building. For each of the examined studies, the local conditions are described followed by the main deficiencies which are addressed. The methods used for the assessment of the in-situ conditions also presented and alternative strategies for the repair and strengthening are considered.
