Siggerud and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To reduce traffic fatalities and accidents, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) nearly doubled funding for the Fed. Hwy. Admin¿s. (FHWA) Hwy. Safety Improvement Program, authorizing $5.1 billion for 2006 through 2009. SAFETEA-LU also added requirements for states to develop strategic hwy. safety plans that cover all aspects of hwy. safety, including infrastructure, behavioral (education and enforcement), and emergency medical services projects; develop crash data analysis systems; and publicly report on the top 5% of hazardous locations on all their public roads. This testimony provides preliminary information on the implementation of HSIP since SAFETEA-LU. Illustrations.

Book Methods for Identifying Hazardous Highway Elements

Download or read book Methods for Identifying Hazardous Highway Elements written by Charles V. Zegeer and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1986 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A project is reported which surveyed the methods that are currently used by highway agencies to identify and treat hazardous highway elements and to determine which methods have been most successful. The synthesis specifically focuses on: (a) defining a hazardous highway element, (b) discussing methods of identifying elements that are strongly associated with accident frequency or severity, and (c) addressing funding issues and problems relative to these elements. The establishment of priorities for improving highway elements is discussed, and agency data collection problems and limitations are noted. Conclusions drawn from the study are presented and recommendations are made.

Book Analysis of Policies for Safety Improvements on Low volume Rural Roadways

Download or read book Analysis of Policies for Safety Improvements on Low volume Rural Roadways written by Schwartz, David J. and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to determine the adequacy with which safety problems on low-volume rural roadways were addressed by the four states of Federal Region VII (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska), a review was made of the states' safety policies. After reviewing literature dealing with the identification of hazardous locations, evaluation methodologies, and system-wide safety improvements, a survey of the states' safety policies was conducted. An official from each state was questioned about the various aspects and procedures dealing with safety improvements. After analyzing and comparing the remarkably diverse policies, recommendations were made in the form of a model safety program. This program included special modifications that would help remediate hazards on low-volume rural roadways. Especially encouraged is a system-wide approach to improvement which would cover all parts of the highway system, not just urban and high-volume roadways.
