Book Multiple Agencies Provide Assistance to Service disabled Veterans Or Entrepreneurs But Specific Needs Are Difficult to Identify and Coordination Is Weak

Download or read book Multiple Agencies Provide Assistance to Service disabled Veterans Or Entrepreneurs But Specific Needs Are Difficult to Identify and Coordination Is Weak written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As of July 2008, the Department of Defense (DOD) reported that almost 33,000 servicemembers had been wounded in action as part of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Some of these servicemembers could have injuries that keep them from easily entering or returning to the workplace upon their exit from the military. For some service-disabled veterans, starting a business may be one option for entering or returning to the workforce. In the Veterans Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development Act of 1999 (P.L. 106-50), Congress stated that too little had been done to help veterans particularly service-disabled veterans, in starting small businesses. This law established the framework for the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Department of Labor (DOL), DOD, and others to coordinate in providing entrepreneurial assistance to veterans and service-disabled veterans. To improve coordination and enhance small business assistance to veterans, the law required that these agencies enter into memorandums of understanding (MOU) as specified in the 1999 Act (but not all of the agencies were required to participate in each of the MOUs); established the National Veterans Business Development Corporation (now known as The Veterans Corporation) to assist veterans, including service-disabled veterans, in forming and expanding small businesses; and established a government wide federal procurement goal for the participation of small businesses owned and controlled by service-disabled veterans.

Book Department of Veterans Affairs

Download or read book Department of Veterans Affairs written by William B. Shear and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fed. gov¿t. long-standing policy has been to use its buying power -- the billions of dollars it spends through contracting each year -- to maximize procurement opportunities for small businesses, including those owned by service-disabled veterans. The Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) is to give first and second priority to small businesses owned by service-disabled and other veterans, respectively, when it uses small business preferences to award its contracts. The act also requires VA to establish contracting goals for service disabled veteran-owned small businesses and other veteran-owned small businesses. This report makes publicly available the contents of a briefing held on Jan. 30, 2009 which reviews the VA¿s goals. Charts and tables.

This book was released on 2012-06-14 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government law attorney Steven J. Koprince teaches you to concentrate on the crucial but complex Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and other rules required for keeping contracts alive and avoiding penalties. Each year, the federal government awards billions of dollars in small-business contracts. The Small-Business Guide to Government Contracts puts a wealth of specialized legal counsel at readers’ fingertips, answering the most important compliance questions like: Is a small business really small? Who is eligible for HUBZone, 8(a), SDVO, or WOSB programs? What salaries and benefits must be offered? What ethical requirements must be followed? When does affiliation become a liability? Small-business contracts are both the lifeblood of hundreds of thousands of companies and a quagmire of red tape. No one can afford to be lax with the rules or too harried to heed them. The Small-Business Guide to Government Contracts empowers contractors to avoid missteps, meet their compliance obligations--and keep the pipeline flowing.

Download or read book Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Program Case Studies Show Fraud and Abuse Allowed Ineligible Firms to Obtain Millions of Dollars in Contracts written by Gregory D. Kutz and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Small Bus. Admin. (SBA) administers the Service-Disabled Vet.-Owned Small Bus. (SDVOSB) program, reported in FY 2008 that $6.5 billion in fed. contracts were awarded to firms who self-certified themselves as SDVOSBs. Fraud and abuse in the SDVOSB program allowed ineligible firms to improperly receive millions of dollars in set-aside and sole-source SDVOSB contracts, potentially denying legitimate service-disabled vets. and their firms the benefits of this program. The auditor identified 10 case-study examples of firms that did not meet SDVOSB program eligibility requirements, which received $100 million in SDVOSB contracts, and over $300 million in additional 8(a), HUBZone, and non-SDVOSB fed. gov¿t. contracts.
