Book Improved Non Linear Dielectrics for Electronic Tuning

Download or read book Improved Non Linear Dielectrics for Electronic Tuning written by Howard Wichansky and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NG INFLUENCE OF THE GRAIN SIZE OF BARIUM STRONTIUM TITANATE ON THE PERMITTIVITY RATIO, THE VARIATION OF PERMITTIVITY WITH SUPERIMPOSED DC BIAS, IS PRESENTED AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE. A 10-fold decrease in permittivity with 80 v/mil dc bias was obtained at the Curie temperature of a ceramic with coarse grains. The mechanisms responsible for the field dependent change in permittivity, namely a field induced paraelectric to ferroelectric transition and a domain alignment process, are re-examined in the light of recent findings stressing the influence of microstructure. The frequency response of dissipation factor is also included along with the proposed mechanisms that account for the observed behavior. Satisfactory performance of the non-linear dielectrics in tuning devices is possible within a constant temperature environment and a frequency range of 3 to 30 MHz. (Author).

Book Non linear Dielectrics for Tuning Applications

Download or read book Non linear Dielectrics for Tuning Applications written by Francis J. Murdoch and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic tuning with non-linear dielectrics is desirable in electronic equipment since they possess large power-handling capabilities which are absent in presently used solid-state varactors. It is shown, using the experimental data in this report, that electronic tuning is possible in the VHF frequency range using presently available non-linear dielectric materials. The important factors to consider in these materials are a large non-linearity in dielectric constants, a reasonable Q, and a fast response time of the changing dielectric constant. Properties of selected compositions have been evaluated in regard to the above-mentioned factors. (Author).

Book Nonlinear Photonics Devices

Download or read book Nonlinear Photonics Devices written by Luigi Sirleto and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first nonlinear optical effect was observed in the 19th century by John Kerr. Nonlinear optics, however, started to grow up only after the invention of the laser, when intense light sources became easily available. The seminal studies by Peter Franken and Nicolaas Bloembergen, in the 1960s, paved the way for the development of today’s nonlinear photonics, the field of research that encompasses all the studies, designs, and implementations of nonlinear optical devices that can be used for the generation, communication, and processing of information. This field has attracted significant attention, partly due to the great potential of exploiting the optical nonlinearities of new or advanced materials to induce new phenomena and achieve new functions. According to Clarivate Web of Science, almost 200,000 papers were published that refer to the topic “nonlinear optic*”. Over 36,000 papers were published in the last four years (2015–2018) with the same keyword, and over 17,000 used the keyword “nonlinear photonic*”. The present Special Issue of Micromachines aims at reviewing the current state of the art and presenting perspectives of further development. Fundamental and applicative aspects are considered, with special attention paid to hot topics that may lead to technological and scientific breakthroughs.

Book Advanced Optoelectronic Devices

Download or read book Advanced Optoelectronic Devices written by Daniela Dragoman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optoelectronics will undoubtedly playamajor role in the applied sciences of the next century. This is due to the fact that optoelectronics holds the key to future communication developments which require high data transmission rates and of a extremely large bandwidths. For example, an optical fiber having a diameter few micrometers has a bandwidth of 50 THz, where an impressive number of channels having high bit data rates can be simultaneously propagated. At present, optical data streams of 100 Gb/s are being tested for use in the near future. Optoelectronics has advanced considerably in the last few years. This is due to the fact that major developments in the area of semiconductors, such as hetero structures based on III-V compounds or mesoscopic structures at the nanometer scale such as quantum weHs, quantum wires and quantum dots, have found robust applications in the generation, modulation, detection and processing of light. Major developments in glass techniques have also dramaticaHy improved the performance of optoelectronic devices based on optical fibers. The optical fiber doped with rare-earth materials has aHowed the amplification of propagating light, compensating its own los ses and even generating coherent light in fiber lasers. The UV irradiation of fibers has been used to inscribe gratings of hundreds of nanometer size inside the fiber, generating a large class of devices used for modulation, wavelength selection and other applications.
