Book Parallel Implementations of Backpropagation Neural Networks on Transputers

Download or read book Parallel Implementations of Backpropagation Neural Networks on Transputers written by P. Saratchandran and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic approach to parallel implementation of feedforward neural networks on an array of transputers. The emphasis is on backpropagation learning and training set parallelism. Using systematic analysis, a theoretical model has been developed for the parallel implementation. The model is used to find the optimal mapping to minimize the training time for large backpropagation neural networks. The model has been validated experimentally on several well known benchmark problems. Use of genetic algorithms for optimizing the performance of the parallel implementations is described. Guidelines for efficient parallel implementations are highlighted.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the collected papers of the NATO Conference on Neurocomputing, held in Les Arcs in February 1989. For many of us, this conference was reminiscent of another NATO Conference, in 1985, on Disordered Systems [1], which was the first conference on neural nets to be held in France. To some of the participants that conference opened, in a way, the field of neurocomputing (somewhat exotic at that time!) and also allowed for many future fruitful contacts. Since then, the field of neurocomputing has very much evolved and its audience has increased so widely that meetings in the US have often gathered more than 2000 participants. However, the NATO workshops have a distinct atmosphere of free discussions and time for exchange, and so, in 1988, we decided to go for another session. This was an ~casion for me and some of the early birds of the 1985 conference to realize how much, and how little too, the field had matured.

Book Computing with T Node Parallel Architecture

Download or read book Computing with T Node Parallel Architecture written by D. Heidrich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel processing is seen today as the means to improve the power of computing facilities by breaking the Von Neumann bottleneck of conventional sequential computer architectures. By defining appropriate parallel computation models definite advantages can be obtained. Parallel processing is the center of the research in Europe in the field of Information Processing Systems so the CEC has funded the ESPRIT Supemode project to develop a low cost, high performance, multiprocessor machine. The result of this project is a modular, reconfigurable architecture based on !NMOS transputers: T.Node. This machine can be considered as a research, industrial and commercial success. The CEC has decided to continue to encourage manufacturers as well as research and end-users of transputers by funding other projects in this field. This book presents course papers of the Eurocourse given at the Joint Research Centre in ISPRA (Italy) from the 4th to 8 of November 1991. First we present an overview of various trends in the design of parallel architectures and specially of the T.Node with it's software development environments, new distributed system aspects and also new hardware extensions based on the !NMOS T9000 processor. In a second part, we review some real case applications in the field of image synthesis, image processing, signal processing, terrain modeling, particle physics simulation and also enhanced parallel and distributed numerical methods on T.Node.

Book An Implementation of Back propagation Learning on GF11 a Large SIMD Parallel Computer

Download or read book An Implementation of Back propagation Learning on GF11 a Large SIMD Parallel Computer written by Michael Witbrock and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Current connectionist simulations require huge computational resources. We describe a neural network simulator for the IBM GF11, and experimental SIMD machine with 566 processors and a peak arithmetic performance of 11 Gigaflops. We present our parallel implementation of the backpropagation learning algorithm, techniques for increasing efficiency, performance measurements on the NETTALK text-to-speech benchmark, and a performance model for the simulator. Our simulator currently runs the back-propagation learning algorithm at 900 million connections per second, where each 'connection per second' includes both a forward and backward pass. This figure was obtained on the machine when only 356 processors were working; with all 566 processors operational, our simulation will run at over one billion connections per second. We conclude that the GF11 is well-suited to neural network simulation, and we analyze our use of the machine to determine which features are the most important for high performance."

Download or read book INNC 90 PARIS written by The International Neural Society(INNS), The IEEE Neural and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-18 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neural Networks have been the theater of a dramatic increase of activities in the last five years. The interest of mixing results from fields as different as neurobiology, physics (spin glass theory), mathematics (linear algebra, statistics ... ), computer science (software engineering, hardware architectures ... ) or psychology has attracted a large number of researchers to the field. The perspective of dramatic improvements in many applications has lead important companies to launch new neural network programs and start-ups have mushroomed to address this new market. Throughout the world large programs are being set-up: in Japan the government has committed more than $18 million per year to its 20 year Human Frontier Science program; the DARPA and the US Navy have alloted more than $10 million per year each and other US government agencies are contributing to important but less ambitious programs. Neural networks are also a major research are in the supercomputing initiative. Europe has from the beginning taken an active part in funding major projects in the new field with BRAIN, BRA, ANNIE and PYGMALION (Esprit). Approximately $20 million has been invested to date since 1988 and new programs of nearly $30 million are being funded for the next 3 years. National projects in certain countries may globally double these amounts. Neural network conferences are attracting larger audiences than ever before. Prior to 1987 attendance never surpassed 300. The June 1989 IJCNN conference in Washington had over 2200 participants.

Book Learning Systems

Download or read book Learning Systems written by Eduard Aved'yan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A learning system can be defined as a system which can adapt its behaviour to become more effective at a particular task or set of tasks. It consists of an architecture with a set of variable parameters and an algorithm. Learning systems are useful in many fields, one of the major areas being in control and system identification. This work covers major aspects of learning systems: system architecture, choice of performance index and methods measuring error. Major learning algorithms are explained, including proofs of convergence. Artificial neural networks, which are an important class of learning systems and have been subject to rapidly increasing popularity, are discussed. Where appropriate, examples have been given to demonstrate the practical use of techniques developed in the text. System identification and control using multi-layer networks and CMAC (Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller) are also presented.
