Download or read book China s Gas Development Strategies written by Shell International B.V. and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This book examines how China can increase the share of natural gas in its energy system. China’s energy strategy has global ramifications and impact, and central to this strategy is the country’s transition from coal to gas. The book presents the culmination of a two-year collaboration between the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) and Shell. With the Chinese government’s strategic aim to increase the share of gas in the energy mix from 5.8% in 2014 to 10% and 15% in 2020 and 2030 respectively, the book outlines how China can achieve its gas targets. Providing both quantifiable metrics and policy measures for the transition, it is a much needed addition to the literature on Chinese energy policy. The research and the resulting recommendations of this study have fed directly into the Chinese government’s 13th Five-Year Plan, and provide unique insights into the Chinese government and policy-making. Due to its global impact, the book is a valuable resource for policy makers in both China and the rest of the world.

Download or read book The Efficient Use of Multiple Sources of a Nonrenewable Resource Under Supply Cost Uncertainty written by Grard Gaudet and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whereas in a deterministic world leaving a high-cost source of a nonrenewable resource untouched as long as a less costly source is available is always efficient, this may not be the case in a stochastic world. Conditions are derived under which it can be efficient to use a risky supply source in order to conserve a cheaper nonrisky source, or to use a costly nonrisky source while a less costly risky source is still available. A supply embargo can be interpreted as a limiting case; the nonrisky source can be reinterpreted as an artificial stockpile.

Book excerpt: The workshop examined the following three questions: (1) What projections have been made by government agencies for the U.S. supply of and demand for natural gas over the next 10 to 20 years? (2) Where are the current natural gas reserves and resources? (3) By what means and by how much can future reserves, resources, and production be increased?

Download or read book Impacts of Market Based Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Policies on U S Manufacturing Competitiveness written by Arthur M. Wiese and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1999-05 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kyoto Protocol requires that total emissions of greenhouse gases from Annex I countries be at least 5% below 1990 levels by the 2008-2012 period. Market-based approaches are proscribed by the Clinton Administration to meet the U.S. emission targets set by the treaty. This paper informs on the impacts that market-based mitigation policies could have on U.S. manufacturing competitiveness. More specifically, given that the treaty calls for mandatory emission reductions from Annex I countries only, U..S. manufacturing cost impacts are examined vis-a-vis those of both member & non-member countries. 50 charts & tables.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first of two volumes of collected papers and essays charts the sequence of significant developments over the past 40 years of the most international of industries—that of gas and oil. Explained are the physical attributes of oil and gas resources, reserves, and supply in their economic and political settings, with an emphasis on the quantities. This book also explores the economic and political inputs to the global oil and gas industry’s organization and markets since the early 1960s and the consequences of a loss of control, not only for the industry itself, but also for the western world’s economy and its political stability.

Download or read book Oil and Gas Resources in China A Roadmap to 2050 written by Guangding Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-21 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As one of the eighteen field-specific reports comprising the comprehensive scope of the strategic general report of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, this sub-report addresses long-range planning for developing science and technology in the field of oil and gas resources. They each craft a roadmap for their sphere of development to 2050. In their entirety, the general and sub-group reports analyze the evolution and laws governing the development of science and technology, describe the decisive impact of science and technology on the modernization process, predict that the world is on the eve of an impending S&T revolution, and call for China to be fully prepared for this new round of S&T advancement. Based on the detailed study of the demands on S&T innovation in China’s modernization, the reports draw a framework for eight basic and strategic systems of socio-economic development with the support of science and technology, work out China’s S&T roadmaps for the relevant eight basic and strategic systems in line with China’s reality, further detail S&T initiatives of strategic importance to China’s modernization, and provide S&T decision-makers with comprehensive consultations for the development of S&T innovation consistent with China’s reality. Supported by illustrations and tables of data, the reports provide researchers, government officials and entrepreneurs with guidance concerning research directions, the planning process, and investment. Founded in 1949, the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the nation’s highest academic institution in natural sciences. Its major responsibilities are to conduct research in basic and technological sciences, to undertake nationwide integrated surveys on natural resources and ecological environment, to provide the country with scientific data and consultations for government’s decision-making, to undertake government-assigned projects with regard to key S&T problems in the process of socio-economic development, to initiate personnel training, and to promote China’s high-tech enterprises through its active engagement in these areas.
