Book Deterministic Analysis of the Effects of Sensor Errors on Strapped Down INS Performance

Download or read book Deterministic Analysis of the Effects of Sensor Errors on Strapped Down INS Performance written by Richard H. Reynolds and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The operation of a strapped-down inertial navigation system in a high dynamic environment was simulated. Its performance was assessed using a laser gyro and a quartz-flexure accelerometer as the sensors. Using deterministic values for the sensor errors, the effects of the sensor errors on the INS performance was assessed. Emphasis is placed on the effects that the sensor errors have on the INS errors in a high dynamic environment. Structural mode effects on INS performance are also evaluated. Following this an analysis of the sensitivity of the INS errors in position and velocity to each inertial sensor is determined. Using this sensitivity analysis, the sensor parameters required to obtain a performance specification of

Download or read book Autonomous Robot Vehicles written by Ingemar J. Cox and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autonomous robot vehicles are vehicles capable of intelligent motion and action without requiring either a guide or teleoperator control. The recent surge of interest in this subject will grow even grow further as their potential applications increase. Autonomous vehicles are currently being studied for use as reconnaissance/exploratory vehicles for planetary exploration, undersea, land and air environments, remote repair and maintenance, material handling systems for offices and factories, and even intelligent wheelchairs for the disabled. This reference is the first to deal directly with the unique and fundamental problems and recent progress associated with autonomous vehicles. The editors have assembled and combined significant material from a multitude of sources, and, in effect, now conviniently provide a coherent organization to a previously scattered and ill-defined field.

Book Sensitivity Study of Strapdown Inertial Sensors in High Performance Applications

Download or read book Sensitivity Study of Strapdown Inertial Sensors in High Performance Applications written by John E. Ryan and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study uses a computer simulation of a strapdown laser gyro inertial reference system to analyze the errors generated as a result of highly dynamic flight profiles. A stochastic error model using state-of-the-art inertial sensors is developed in detail and implemented in software. SOFE, a generalized simulation program, was used to implement both a Monte Carlo simulation and a covariance analysis. The Monte Carlo method was selected to perform the error analysis. Two highly dynamic flight trajectories were developed using the flight profile generator, PROFGEN. The PROFGEN program itself was modified to include an aircraft roll time constant and a roll-only maneuver. The errors generated in the inertial reference system as a result of these flight trajectories were investigated. Both an error budget and an analysis of the maneuvers inducing these errors were accomplished. Gyro error sources induced the most system error and coupled the dynamics of the flight trajectory into the variations of the error. Misalignment was found to be the major cause of both the accelerometer and gyro induced error. Successive maneuvers were found that reinforced system errors and other maneuvers were found that cancelled these errors. Also, some cases were found where the amount of system error varied with a change in heading.

Book Sensitivity of Track Accuracy to Navigation Sensor and Time Errors Within a Distributed System

Download or read book Sensitivity of Track Accuracy to Navigation Sensor and Time Errors Within a Distributed System written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of achieving a Single Integrated Air Picture (SIAP) is a function of the accuracy with which the positional estimates of aerospace objects can be made. This report presents a detailed analysis of how track accuracy is affected by navigation, sensor, and time errors, which include errors due to time synchronization, time stamping, time latency, etc. Although the analysis assumes a shipborne sensor system for illustrative purposes, the analysis is general and can be applied to all sensing systems that comprise the distributed system that develops and maintains the SIAP. Navigation errors are the result of errors in the accelerometers and gyroscopes forming the inertial navigation system. The focus here is not on the errors in the individual inertial instruments but on their performance as they affect the uncertainty in the position of the inertial navigation system and the orientation of the navigation reference frame. Navigation positional uncertainty or error is described by error in the north position, east position, and height of the navigation system. Error in the orientation of the navigation reference frame is described by three misalignments that represent the cumulative effect of the gyroscopes' inability to maintain a perfect inertial reference. Errors in navigation position translate directly into errors in track measurement. A 300 m east position error results in a 300 m track error. Navigation misalignments also have a significant effect on track accuracy. A I mrad misalignment about all three navigation reference axes results in a track error of 260 m for objects 100 nm away. The misalignment contribution is proportional to range to the object. Thus, for an object 10 nm from the ship, the 1 mrad misalignment contribution is 26 m.
