Book Meat Is for Pussies

Download or read book Meat Is for Pussies written by John Joseph and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Joseph wants men to know, in no uncertain terms, that they don’t need to eat steak, burgers, wings, ribs, or any other animal product, for that matter, to be strong—in fact, he would argue, eating animals is for the weak. Because when your protein sources come from animals, you’re missing out on all of the nutritional benefits of a plant-based diet—a diet that can make you more fit, more sexy, and more manly. In Meat is for Pussies, Joseph presents a throw-down of information, offering both personal and scientific evidence that a plant-based diet offers the best path to athleticism, endurance, strength, and overall health. In addition to handily dispelling the myths surrounding meat, Joseph offers workout advice, a meal plan, and recipes that make going plant-based easy. Flavor and vitamin-packed options like the Working Man Stew and Veggie Chili with Cornbread will keep men’s (and women’s) bodies healthy and energized, while workouts that emphasize cardio and strength training build endurance and stamina and prove that you don’t need meat to build muscle. Joseph also offers living proof that living a plant-based lifestyle is badass, from super-athlete Brendan Brazier to MMA champion Jake Shields to Joseph himself, who is an Ironman Triathlete and still rocking out (at the age of fifty-two) on world tours as the frontman for his legendary band the Cro-Mags. Joseph’s passion for educating the world about the benefits of a plant-based diet comes through on each page, in a voice and a vocabulary that is uniquely his own. At the end of the day, he wants readers to live a long, healthy, happy life . . . and he won’t take no for an answer.

Book Meatonomics

Book excerpt: In this “provocative and persuasive work,” the health advocate reveals the dirty economics of meat—an industry that’s eating into your wallet (Publishers Weekly). Few Americans are aware of the economic system that supports our country’s supply of animal foods. Yet these forces affect us in a number of ways—none of them good. Though we only pay a few dollars per pound of meat at the grocery store, we pay far more in tax-fueled government subsidies—$38 billion more, to be exact. And subsidies are just one layer of meat’s hidden cost. But in Meatonomics, lawyer and sustainability advocate David Robinson Simon offers a path toward lasting solutions. Animal food producers maintain market dominance with artificially low prices, misleading PR, and an outsized influence over legislation. But counteracting these manipulations is easy—with the economic sanity of plant-based foods. In Meatonomics, Simon demonstrates: How government-funded marketing influences what we think of as healthy eating How much of our money is spent to prop up the meat industry How we can change our habits and our country for the better “Spectacularly important.” —John Robbins, author of The Food Revolution “[A] well-researched, passionately written book.” —Publishers Weekly

Book Hot Soapy Water

Download or read book Hot Soapy Water written by Auguste Knuckles and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So, I see you’ve picked up Hot Soapy Water, a bubble bath that’s not for kids. It’s okay, no need to look over your shoulder, I’m not there, I’ve never been there. Well, you’ve taken the first step. I suppose the question is, are you really going to do that old cliché and judge? “Hot Soapy Water, someone’s fetish with bath time?” Nope. I haven’t diluted the contents of this book with fragrant bath bombs, candles and Barry White playing in the background. It’s mustard gas in the eyeballs, salt on an open wound. It’s utter modern-day carnage. Stories within stories, short poems. War, death, destruction, a chef’s journey, addiction, hedonism, mental health, trauma, the cold dark blanket of suicide, bravery, courage, bewilderment and some funny shit. It’s a book you will not put down if you are brave enough to start. Why? Because I’m the voice in your head telling you this. My name is Auguste Knuckles, and you will ask yourself a question when the last page is turned: ‘how am I alive? Am I alive or has an alien written this nuclear bomb narrative fired into a volcano?’

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hilarious tales from the trenches of food service from the popular blog—perfect for fans of David Sedaris, Anthony Bourdain, Erma Bombeck and Mo Rocca. For all those disenchanted current and former food service employees, Darron Cardosa (a.k.a. The Bitchy Waiter) has your back. Based on his popular blog, this riotous book is full of waitstaff horror stories—plus heartwarming tales—from three decades in the industry. Cardosa knows you want your beer cold (“You want a cold beer? Thank you for clarifying so I didn’t bring you the one that just came out of the oven”). And while he may hate children (“I know the kid at Table Eight is trouble the moment he rolls into the restaurant in his fancy stroller”), he will at least consider owning up to his mistakes: “Do I take the steak from the floor, citing the “three-second rule,” and put it in the to-go box and carry it back to the woman?” From crazy customers to out-of-control egos, these acerbic tales offer a hilarious glimpse into what really goes on in that fancy restaurant—and inside the mind of a server. Praise for The Bitchy Waiter “Cardosa does for wait staff what Anthony Bourdain did for kitchens: he exposes the ugly side of food service from the perspective of those working on the front lines. And he puts the potential restaurant customer on notice that someone is watching and recording their bad behavior.” —Shelf Awareness

Download or read book This Cheese is Nuts written by Julie Piatt and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-06-13 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essential primer and guide to preparing delicious, totally vegan, nut-based cheeses, from the coauthor of The Plantpower Way. In their debut cookbook, The Plantpower Way, Julie Piatt and her ultra-endurance athlete husband, Rich Roll, inspired thousands to embrace a plant-fueled lifestyle, and through their advocacy efforts, podcasts, and talks, countless people are now enjoying healthier and more vibrant lives. In This Cheese Is Nuts, Julie is bringing that message to the forefront once more, with a stunning collection of flavorful nut-based cheeses. Julie has always been known for her dairy-free cheeses, and here she shares seventy-five recipes using almonds, cashews, and other nuts to create cheeses anyone can make right at home. Nut-based cheeses are on the cutting edge in the world of vegan cuisine. They’re remarkably simple to prepare (all you need are a few simple ingredients and a basic dehydrator), and in as little as twenty minutes, you can have an assortment of tasty fresh cheeses fit for any occasion. Even creating aged cheeses is easy—they require only a day or two in the dehydrator, so making “fancier” cheeses, like Aged Almond Cheddar, is an almost entirely hands-off process. And though they’re delectable on their own, Julie’s nut-based cheeses are a terrific component in her recipes for Raw Beet Ravioli with Cashew Truffle Cream, Country Veggie Lasagna with Fennel and Brazil Nut Pesto, French Onion Soup with Cashew Camembert, and more. Filled with the essential tips, tools, and mouth-watering recipes home cooks need to immerse themselves in the world of nut-based cheese-making, This Cheese Is Nuts will demonstrate why nut cheeses should be part of any healthy, sustainable diet.

Book A New Stoicism

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lawrence C. Becker
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2017-08-29
  • ISBN : 1400888387
  • Pages : 283 pages

Download or read book A New Stoicism written by Lawrence C. Becker and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-29 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would stoic ethics be like today if stoicism had survived as a systematic approach to ethical theory, if it had coped successfully with the challenges of modern philosophy and experimental science? A New Stoicism proposes an answer to that question, offered from within the stoic tradition but without the metaphysical and psychological assumptions that modern philosophy and science have abandoned. Lawrence Becker argues that a secular version of the stoic ethical project, based on contemporary cosmology and developmental psychology, provides the basis for a sophisticated form of ethical naturalism, in which virtually all the hard doctrines of the ancient Stoics can be clearly restated and defended. Becker argues, in keeping with the ancients, that virtue is one thing, not many; that it, and not happiness, is the proper end of all activity; that it alone is good, all other things being merely rank-ordered relative to each other for the sake of the good; and that virtue is sufficient for happiness. Moreover, he rejects the popular caricature of the stoic as a grave figure, emotionally detached and capable mainly of endurance, resignation, and coping with pain. To the contrary, he holds that while stoic sages are able to endure the extremes of human suffering, they do not have to sacrifice joy to have that ability, and he seeks to turn our attention from the familiar, therapeutic part of stoic moral training to a reconsideration of its theoretical foundations.

Book The Vegetarian Myth 16pt Large Print Edition

Download or read book The Vegetarian Myth 16pt Large Print Edition written by Lierre Keith and published by . This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part memoir, nutritional primer, and political manifesto, this controversial examination exposes the destructive history of agricultureâ "causing the devastation of prairies and forests, driving countless species extinct, altering the climate, and destroying the topsoilâ "and asserts that, in order to save the planet, food must come from within living communities. In order for this to happen, the argument champions eating locally and sustainably and encourages those with the resources to grow their own food. Further examining the question of what to eat from the perspective of both human and environmental health, the account goes beyond health choices and discusses potential moral issues from eatingâ "or not eatingâ "animals. Through the deeply personal narrative of someone who practiced veganism for 20 years, this unique exploration also discusses alternatives to industrial farming, reveals the risks of a vegan diet, and explains why animals belong on ecologically sound farms.

Book excerpt: *It was supposed to be a MAKEOVER of her family RESTAURANT, not her LIFE.* A clean romantic comedy with a touch of romance plus some delicious vegan recipes. When Alexandra agrees to take care of the family restaurant, she thinks it’s only temporary, until her father recovers from a massive heart attack. What she doesn’t know is that the restaurant is in trouble, and participating in the Xtreme Restaurant Makeover television show may be the only way to save it. The show is hosted by a hot, but cutthroat, celebrity chef, Russell Stone, who turns around failing restaurants in less than five days, but his style and manners (or lack of thereof) are hard for Alexandra to swallow. Dirty pots and pans fly around the kitchen, food gets spit out, and interiors are gutted as millions are watching and cheering, the bigger the humiliation of the restaurant owner, the higher the ratings. She despises the very idea of it and doesn’t think she could do it. Or could she?
