Download or read book Reverse in Ministry and Missions Africans in the Dark Continent of Europe written by Israel Olofinjana and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-05-21 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a recent shift in global Christianity from North to South. Christianity, particularly Pentecostalism, is growing day by day in the continents of Africa, Latin America and Asia whereas it is declining in the Western world. Africans are now bringing the Gospel back to Europe and other parts of the world. This reverse in missions has been a recent phenomenon and is the subject of this book. This book documents the history and contributions of European missions in Africa. It then chronicles the history and development of African Churches in Europe, focussing on the UK. It is passionately articulated that these Churches are certainly contributing positively to global and local Christianity. The historical development of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) is documented to illustrate the impact African Churches are making in Europe. It is a book that is valuable to people interested in African Churches in the UK. “The presence of so many vigorous and committed black churches is one of the bright spots on the horizon of churches in the UK. This work is a pioneering contribution to understanding where these churches are coming from, how they understand their mission in and to the UK and how they are likely to shape the future of Christianity in these islands. It is very welcome.” Dr Nigel Wright, Principal of Spurgeon’s College, London “Rev Israel has produced a winning combination of research, history and practical theology with this wonderful piece. I believe it is essential reading for every leader who is serious about contemporary cross cultural ministry and mission in 21st century Britain.” Dr Jonathan Oloyede, Convener Global Day of Prayer, London

Chapters are organized thematically, examining a variety of topics, including geography, history, government, economics, religion, ethnic and social groups, gender, education, language, etiquette, food, literature and the arts, and pop culture. Each chapter begins with an overview essay, followed by a selection of encyclopedic entries that provide a more nuanced look at that facet of modern Nigeria. The main text is supplemented with sidebars that highlight additional high-interest topics. A collection of appendices rounds out the volume, offering short vignettes of daily life in the country, a glossary of key terms, statistical data, and a list of state holidays. Once a pawn of British colonialism, today Nigeria is a sovereign nation and key player on the world stage. Nigeria is equally rich culturally, a nation where time-honored traditions mix with contemporary influences. Explore the diversity of modern Nigeria in this concise and accessible volume.

Book excerpt: The Yoruba: A New History is the first transdisciplinary study of the two-thousand-year journey of the Yoruba people, from their origins in a small corner of the Niger-Benue Confluence in present-day Nigeria to becoming one of the most populous cultural groups on the African continent. Weaving together archaeology with linguistics, environmental science with oral traditions, and material culture with mythology, Ogundiran examines the local, regional, and even global dimensions of Yoruba history. The Yoruba: A New History offers an intriguing cultural, political, economic, intellectual, and social history from ca. 300 BC to 1840. It accounts for the events, peoples, and practices, as well as the theories of knowledge, ways of being, and social valuations that shaped the Yoruba experience at different junctures of time. The result is a new framework for understanding the Yoruba past and present.

Book excerpt: DIV God uses manpower. We need God’s power. God works when we work. Millions of people all over the world have been introduced to Jesus through the ministry of Reinhard Bonnke. In Taking Action he describes how we too can be an extension of God’s love to the world by partnering with the Holy Spirit. With a firsthand account of the mighty manifestations of God at work today, Bonnke takes a careful look at what Scripture teaches about the anointing and gifts of the Holy Spirit in general and then explains each of the specific gifts listed by the apostle Paul. Jesus lived, worked, and prayed in the power of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel of John He says, “He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also.” With this same anointing, we can live this way as well. /div

Download or read book Unaddicted written by Joseph Ola and published by Word Alive. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his years of engaging with teenagers and young adults, the question Joseph has been most frequently asked is on overcoming sexual addictions—especially pornography and masturbation. This book brings together in one volume Joseph’s liberating thoughts on how to do this, sharing unreservedly from his journey through the same struggles. The book is easy-to-read and has been a helpful resource for many teenagers and young adults. Recommendation We shared this book with two members of our church’s youth ministry. To the glory of God, they found it very helpful. One of them shared with us how, by the help of the Holy Spirit, prayers and the liberating truth from the book, he lost the desire to indulge in his addiction. We heartily recommend this book. — Pastor and Mrs Adelegan Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Testimony from a Reader: I had the privilege of getting the electronic version of this book as a free gift. It has brought great joy and freedom to me. The night I downloaded the book, I finished reading it, because I've always longed for help in my struggle against pornography and masturbation. Every preacher I listen to seem to be silent about it. My struggle has been ongoing a long while. Even though I knew it was bad, I found it difficult to stop. The times when I thought I had freedom, it was always short-lived. Finding confidence to share with you that this has become a broken chain brings great relief to my heart. Thank you for being sincere. Thank you for yielding to the call. Thank you for the light you have shined to my darkness. Reading the book has opened my eyes to the victory God has given me which I'm expected to walk in. I have never seen it in the way you brought it. Even though I longed to stop, and did put in certain measures to curb my exposure, I knew I needed something more. I found it in this book. As I yield more and more to God, my fleshly desires die. As I walk more and more in obedience in line with God's Word, the more I am in tune with Him. I covet your prayers. I long for a time when God will grant me a platform to share the light with others tied in these chains as well. I write to let you know that the labour invested in your posts which led to this book was not in vain. It's growing. It has birthed a seed and it will continue to grow and reach many more. Amen. I have come to share my testimony in faith declaring the victory long given to me. I am still reading the book over and over again and the more I read, the more I see God helping me overcome in my daily life. Grace to you. — Funminiyi, Nigeria
Download or read book MISSIONS IN THE DARK SOIL written by ALLEN TIMILEHIN OLATUNDE and published by Africa-GLOW Missions Connect, Nigeria. This book was released on with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an historical work that reflects on the good, the bad and the ugly experiences of a Southern Baptist missionary, T. J. Bowen and the relevant applications for African missions and contemporary missionaries. The significance of the study lies on the ability to pioneer missions among the people of strange culture, language, colour and values successfully. This book researches into problems observable in the life and works of Bowen that need clarification. They are problem of contextualizing mission, developing means and strategy for language barriers, mission funding and support, neglecting education as mission tool and ill-health challenges of missionaries which usually truncate dreams. This book, however, interacts with Nigerian Baptist Mission under GMB and her relationship with local churches on how to strengthen missionaries with SWOT Analysis. This book recommends suggested ways for African mission boards and agencies to be pragmatic in strategic making, be aware of the psychological welfare of her missionaries and provide a health insurance scheme for serving missionaries. When Mission Board and local churches hold hands together, missionaries will strive better on the field. Mission is still young in Africa dark soil, we only need men, methods and materials to grow gospel as God increases the open-doors for mission.

Download or read book Curating Transcultural Spaces written by Sarah Hegenbart and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curating Transcultural Spaces asks what a museum which enables the presentation of multiple perspectives might look like. Can identity be global and local at the same time? How may one curate dual identity? More broadly, what is the link between the arts and processes of identity construction? This volume, an indispensable source for the process of engaging with colonial history in Germany and beyond, takes its starting point from the 'scandal' of the Humboldt Forum. The transfer of German state collections from the Ethnological Museum and the Museum for Asian Art, located at the margins of Berlin in Dahlem, into the centre of Germany's capital indicates the nation's aspiration of purported multiculturalism and cosmopolitanism; yet the project's resurrection of the site's former Prussian city palace, which was demolished during the GDR, stands in opposition to its very mission, given that the Prussian rulers benefited from colonial exploitation. By examining the contrasting successes of other projects, such as the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC, Curating Transcultural Spaces compellingly argues for the necessity of taking post-colonial thinking on board in the construction of museum spaces in order to generate genuine exchange between multiple perspectives.

Download or read book Methodists and their Missionary Societies 1900 1996 written by John Pritchard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century saw the spectacular growth of Christianity in much of the global south, the transformation of mission fields into self-governing Churches, schemes of church union (some successful, others abortive), evolving attitudes to other faiths and significant Christian engagement with issues of racial justice and world poverty. This book examines the contribution of the Methodist Missionary Society (and its predecessors before 1932) to these world-changing movements, from the remarkable mass conversions in south-west China and west Africa early in the century to the controversy over grants to liberation movements in the 1970s and 1980s. Pritchard traces the MMS contribution to education, health care, rural development and social welfare and describes the administration of the Societies and the selection and preparation of candidates for missionary service. This is a ground-breaking study of Methodist Overseas Mission in the twentieth century, how it adjusted to changing circumstances - including the forced withdrawals from China and Burma - and developed new initiatives and partnerships, including its World Church in Britain programme which brought missionaries from the younger Churches to serve in Britain and Ireland.
