Infatti, la crescente complessità che ha caratterizzato la gestione d'impresa negli ultimi anni, nonché un ruolo efficace nell'attivazione di sinergie ed una posizione sempre più strategicamente rilevante da parte degli stakeholders nei processi di generazione di valore aziendale, stanno influenzando le imprese ad adottare nuovi modelli di reporting e di accounting, che tengano conto di aspetti e fattori intangibili finora non considerati con la giusta attenzione. In particolare nella prima parte del presente volume vengono evidenziati i principali contributi della letteratura in ordine alla definizione ed alle caratteristiche del capitale intellettuale; nella seconda, invece, viene presentata un'indagine empirica basata sull'analisi di un campione di imprese quotate appartenenti al segmento Star della borsa italiana. L'obiettivo della ricerca empirica consiste nel rilevare alcune ipotesi di studio che prevedono delle relazioni di causalità tra le imprese che comunicano informazioni in ordine agli "intangibles" ed alcuni indicatori di misurazione della "performance" aziendale.
