Book Restoring the First century Church in the Twenty first Century

Download or read book Restoring the First century Church in the Twenty first Century written by Warren Lewis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-10-15 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Restoring the First-century Church in the Twenty-first Century: Essays on the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement in Honor of Don Haymes' is a snap-shot of a major American religious movement just after the turn of the millennium. When the ÒDisciplesÓ of Alexander Campbell and the ÒChristiansÓ of Barton Warren Stone joined forces early in the 19th century, the first indigenous ecumenical movement in the United States came into being. Two hundred years later, this American experiment in biblical primitivism has resulted in three, possibly four, large segments. Best known is the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), active wherever ecumenical Christians gather. The denomination is typically theologically open, having been reshaped by theological Liberalism and the Social Gospel in the twentieth century, and has been re-organized on the model of other Protestant bodies. The largest group, the Churches of Christ, easily distinguished by their insistence on 'a cappella' music (singing only), is theologically conservative, now tending towards the evangelical, and congregationally autonomous, though with a denominational sense of brotherhood. The Christian Churches/Churches of Christ (Independent) are a 'via media' between the two other bodies: theologically conservative and evangelical, congregationally autonomous, pastorally oriented, and comfortable with instrumental music. The fourth numerically significant group, the churches of Christ (Anti-Institutional), is a conservative reaction to the 'a cappella' churches, much in the way that the Southern ''a capella' churches reacted against the emerging intellectual culture and social location, instrumental music and institutional centrism of the Northern Disciples following the Civil War. Besides these four, numerous smaller fragments, typically one-article splinter groups, decorate the history of the Restoration Movement: One-Cup brethren, Premillennialists, No-Sunday-School congregations, No-Located-Preacher churches, and others. This movement to unite Christians on the basis of faith and immersion in Jesus Christ, and to restore New-Testament Christianity, is too little recognized on the American religious landscape, and it has been too little studied by the academic community. This volume is focused primarily on the 'a cappella' churches and their interests, but implications for the entire Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement abound. The voices that speak freely within were unimpeded in authoring these essays by standards of orthodoxy imposed from without. All of the contributors are acquainted with Don Haymes, the honoree of the volume, and have been inspired by this friend and colleague, a man with a rigorous and earthy intellect and a heavenly spirit. David Bundy, series editor Studies in the History and Culture of World Christianities

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of awakening your Sacred Masculine, is to ignite and guide you to live more consciously from your open, aligned and empowered Heartspace. This in part, is done by restoring respect, integrity and honor in men and strength, safety and trust within women. This is largely accomplished by consciously connecting into your Heart Center and all the Spiritual energies accessible here, specifically those of love + joy + compassion + gratitude + forgiveness and trust. Here you tap directly into your Divine nature. Guaranteed. These energies, found in an empowered Heartspace are what I refer to as the Sacred. Living from your empowered Heartspace actualizes your Souls true purpose which is to embody and express your Sacreds attributes in your everyday life. As you act from this awareness and become consciously present in your Heartspace, you come to awaken your Sacred. Its this simple. However, only by being totally present in this very moment Here & Now fully grounded in your body, can you embody your Sacred. Viscerally speaking that is, with each breath you breathe. For your Sacred to become real for you, it has to become alive in you. Consciously breathing your Sacred and all its qualities into your body, will a Divine fusion ignite and blaze in your life. Please understand, awakening your Sacred Masculine is IN NO WAY gender specific. Its not just about men. This revolutionary+evolutionary breakthrough of consciousness needs to take place in all of us, women as well. The masculine Lifeforce lives in men and women alike and as such, has to evolve in anyone intent on awakening their Sacred. Paradoxically, this applies to men engaging and empowering our contradictory + complimentary natures. Otherwise known as our feminine consciousness. For men, to awaken and embody our Sacred Masculine now, well have to embrace this fundamental part of ourselves.

Book The Evolution Of Gods The Scientific Origin Of Divinity And Religion

Download or read book The Evolution Of Gods The Scientific Origin Of Divinity And Religion written by Ajay Kansal and published by Epicurus Books. This book was released on 2012-04-23 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did gods create mankind, or did mankind create gods? Why, when and how did mankind begin to worship gods? Religious scriptures the world over claim that one or the other god made man, but science has not yet identified any supernatural power that created and governed human beings. Was it man who came up with the idea of gods to help him cope with his own fears? Could it be that ancient people attributed natural phenomena-unfathomable and frightening to them-to the working of invisible gods? What kind of sufferings or bewilderments made people bow before unseen powers or gods as we call them? When were these gods created? Who invented morals and methods of worship? Who wrote the ancient scriptures such as the Bible and the Vedas? Most crucially, have gods and the scriptures shaped our responses to the world around us? The Evolution of Gods seeks to answer these questions, and explains scientifically how, when and why religions and gods came into being. Ajay Kansal marshals anthropological and historical facts about the development of religions in a simple and straightforward manner to assert that it was mankind that created gods, and not the other way around.

Book Jewish Temple Theology and the Mystery of the Cross

Download or read book Jewish Temple Theology and the Mystery of the Cross written by and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2024-02 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the Day of Atonement, two goats were brought before the high priest at the temple. One was chosen as the goat for the Lord, a spotless sacrifice, and the other was set aside for Azazel, doomed to bear sins into the wilderness. Jewish Temple Theology and the Mystery of the Cross shows how a theological appreciation for the two movements of Yom Kippur makes it possible to identify the paradox at the heart of Christian soteriology: in his single atoning act, Jesus Christ fulfills the work of both goats, without confusion, without division. Appreciation for this paradox helps illuminate many of the doctrinal debates in the history of Christian soteriology and offers a compelling way forward. Jewish Temple Theology and the Mystery of the Cross begins with a survey of biblical geography: first, a rich theological pilgrimage to Mount Zion, the home of beauty, goodness, and truth, and then to the surrounding desert, the wilderness of sin and sorrow. To appreciate the Yom Kippur liturgy, and to understand the priestly word "atonement," one must be oriented by this cosmic stage. Drawing on the best modern historical-critical scholarship, this volume reveals the wonders hidden in Leviticus and shows how a sophisticated theological interpretation of this book leads to breakthroughs in our understanding of Christ's saving work. Seeing the mystery of the cross from the perspective of the ancient Jewish scriptures has surprising results. For example, Richard Barry shows how Hans Urs von Balthasar's controversial theology of Holy Saturday is a compelling development of Azazel-goat soteriology; it is not only biblically licit but is in some ways mandated by the logic of Yom Kippur. At the same time, David Bentley Hart is celebrated for the way he powerfully advances modern YHWH-goat soteriology, yet obedience to the logic of Yom Kippur also necessitates a nuanced biblical critique of his muscular universalism. How can Christ fulfill the seemingly contradictory movements of both goats in a single saving work? Grappling with that question, Jewish Temple Theology and the Mystery of the Cross seeks to draw nearer to the heart of the mystery of salvation.

Book Mattering the Invisible

Download or read book Mattering the Invisible written by Diana Espírito Santo and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2021-05-14 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring how technological apparatuses “capture” invisible worlds, this book looks at how spirits, UFOs, discarnate entities, spectral energies, atmospheric forces and particles are mattered into existence by human minds. Technological and scientific discourse has always been central to the nineteenth- and early twentieth-century spiritualist quest for legitimacy, but as this book shows, machines, people, and invisible beings are much more ontologically entangled in their definitions and constitution than we would expect. The book shows this entanglement through a series of contemporary case studies where the realm of the invisible arises through technological engagement, and where the paranormal intertwines with modern technology.

Book IGNORANCE SINS SUFFERINGS

Download or read book IGNORANCE SINS SUFFERINGS written by Rabindranath Mohanty and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2023-02-04 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What ails us? Why are we unhappy? Why do we suffer? The Upanishads call us Amritasya Putrah, scions of immortality. But we struggle to be happy. Why is it so? Where are we going wrong? This is because we do not know how to conduct ourselves in this world. Though we are endowed with divine virtues we do not practise it. Ignorance about Self has enveloped our intellect. Though we are born to be blissful we lead a life of misery. Our thought process is very important in this regard. When we think of something, we become the object of thought. Sadguru Sri Sri Arjn says, "Ignorance is the cause of sufferings." Ignorance leads to desire; desire leads to wrongdoings which leads to suffering. This book is a compilation of some of the spiritual discourses of Sadguru Sri Sri Arjun. He is the founder of Divya Darshan-The Philosophy Divine. Divya Darshan lays stress on living harmoniously in society by practising divine virtues and learning about Self to know one’s true nature. Sadguru Sri Sri Arjun says, “You never welcome woes but your ignorance brings them to you. You are absolutely divine. Therefore, pursue divine knowledge, desire only divinity, contemplate on divinity and then only divine bliss will be bestowed upon you.” He further says, "Knowledge paves the way to Dharma and Dharma to freedom (moksha).” Elucidating further he explains, "Knowing the Law of Eternity is knowledge and observance of the same is Dharma. Without self-knowledge it is impossible to attain bliss and freedom, the ultimate goal of everyone.”
