Book If You Get Me Out of This One

Download or read book If You Get Me Out of This One written by Fran Hollister and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It started out to be what I would identify as a normal day. After work I was running an errand. I was in a parking lot when the car in front of me started to back up, so I extended my arm on the steering wheel to beep. I was hit anyway. There wasn't any damage, and I felt fine, so I didn't think it was necessary to exchange names, but luckily I remembered his license plate. Thirty to forty-five minutes later, my shoulder started to ache. Ten days later, my arm and hand were nonfunctional. It started out as a sprain, and it developed into reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), which is currently known as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Unfortunately, when my insurance company contacted the man who had backed into me, he denied it. Nearly two years later, thirty-two hours before the statute of limitation was up, there was a twist of fate; I was blindsided with a phone call. And this is when I hired my attorney, Elliott Pelegrin. It's my hope after reading, If You Get Me Out of This One...,readers will realize one needs determination not only to recover from RSD/CRPS, but any conflict. I was in for the fight of my life, I made it through because I did exactly what my doctors, therapists, and attorney told me to do. It took a lot of time, work, patience, and mostly determination. I gave it my best shot. Several times I've heard Robin Roberts from Good Morning America say, "Make your mess your message." It took me twenty-nine years before I could openly discuss my mess.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Douglas M. Edgeworth reveals what it was like for an everyday family trying to make ends meet in South Carolina from 1918 to 1945 with this well-researched collection of 201 letters. Based in the Angelus community of Chesterfield County, South Carolina, the Edgeworth family included Raymond and Leoard, who lived up to family's coat of arms that included a gryphon, which signifies being a guardian and protector of women. They were not the only members of the Edgeworth family to leave a lasting mark: Sallie Edgeworth moved with her seven children to a cotton farm on County Route 33 when her husband died, taking care of her children at all costs--even when it meant mortgaging her crop of cotton, cotton seed, corn, and fodder. Corbett had plans of making millions, and had a knack for painting rosy pictures, which allowed him to coerce people to go along with his schemes. But an addiction to alcohol and drugs would lead him not to riches but to a life filled with hardships and unmet potential. Numerous other family members are profiled, and you'll see what they came up against in their own words in the revealing letters featured in Gryphons of the Sandhills.

A truly riveting read with a hopeful message.Excerpt: "My hidden secrets were not well-concealed. The psychological profile had been right as had the books on BPD. I was manipulative, desperately clinging and prone to tantrums, explosiveness, and frantic acts of desperation when I did not feel the intimacy connection was strong enough. The tough chick loner act of self-reliance was a complete facade."

Book The Robin Hood of El Dorado

Download or read book The Robin Hood of El Dorado written by Walter Noble Burns and published by UNM Press. This book was released on 1999-08-01 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1932 and never reprinted since, this historical drama re-creates the life and adventures of Joaquin Murrieta, a Hispanic social rebel in California during the tumultuous Gold Rush. Published during the Great Depression, at a time of mass deportations of Hispanos to Mexico, this sympathetic portrait of Murrieta and Mexican Americans was a unique voice of social protest. The author romanticizes the pastoral society of Mexican California into which Murrieta was born and introduces the protagonist as a quiet, honest, unpretentious, and reserved resident of Saw Mill Flat, California. But the rape and murder of his wife, Rosita, by racist Anglo miners unleashes his vengeful rage. Picking up his pistols, Murrieta tracks and kills Rosita's murderers and defends Hispanos against violence and dispossession by rampaging gold rush miners. Richard Griswold del Castillo discusses the significance of Murrieta to twentieth-century Mexican Americans and Chicanos and of Burns's history to contemporary understanding of the mysterious social bandit.

Book Conscience in Recovery from Alcohol Addiction

Download or read book Conscience in Recovery from Alcohol Addiction written by Yordan Kalev Zhekov and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic research in alcohol addiction presents diverse results and subject inadequacies. This study identifies conscience and its influence through spirituality on successful recovery as promoting unity and adequacy in the field. The purpose of the study is to analyze the relationship between conscience, spirituality, and recovery from alcohol addiction. This threefold framework underlines the conceptual importance of cognition, affect, behavior, spirituality, and character in addiction studies. Narrative analysis (NA) is employed for designing the present research. It is utilized for collection, examination, and formulation of the results derived from the participants' stories. Semi-structured interviews are used within the NA framework to provide the data from the twelve participants. The latter are selected as a homogeneous group based on characteristics of their addiction, spirituality, and recovery. The analysis of narratives defines conscience with its cognitive, emotive, and conative elements as related to spirituality. The conscience's nature and functioning undergo deterioration during addiction and complete rejuvenation through participants' spiritual transformation of a transcendent divine experience. Spiritually empowered conscience supports progressive recovery from alcohol addiction. The conscientious approach to self, life, and others is shaped by virtue and spiritual commitment.
