Download or read book DC Power System Design for Telecommunications written by Whitham D. Reeve and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-10-25 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Straightforward, systematic approach for designing reliable dc power systems for telecommunications Here is a must-have resource for anyone responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining telecommunications systems. The text explains how to design direct current (dc) power systems that operate at nominal voltages of 24 and 48 volts dc, use lead-acid batteries, and are installed in public network telecommunications systems and other exclusive-use environments. Rather than train readers to design systems by rote, the author gives readers the skills and knowledge to perform systematic analyses to make the best choices based on several economic, operational, electrical, and physical considerations. Written in a straightforward style that avoids unnecessary jargon and complex mathematics, the text covers all the essentials of dc power systems for telecommunications: * Detailed descriptions of the seven major system components: Rectifier/charger System, Battery System, Charge Bus, Discharge Bus, Primary Distribution System, Secondary Distribution System, and Voltage Conversion System * Detailed descriptions include design equations, reference tables, block diagrams, and schematics * Design procedures to help readers select the most appropriate power system elements, such as buses, wiring, overcurrent protection, rectifiers, and batteries * Application of the American National Standards Institute's telecommunications industry standards and other relevant standards, practices, and codes * Strategies for dealing with voltage drop in distribution and battery circuits as well as guidance for sizing circuit wiring to meet voltage drop and current rating requirements * In-depth discussions that focus on the types of lead-acid batteries used in telecommunications and their applications Throughout the text, examples demonstrate how theory is applied to real-world telecommunications systems. Some 330 illustrations and more than 100 tables are also provided to help readers visualize and better understand complex systems. Design and application examples and accompanying solutions help readers understand the design process and use their new skills. In summary, engineers and technicians in the telecommunications industry will find all the resources they need to design reliable dc power systems.

Download or read book Networked Data Acquisition Systems Daq 96 Proceedings Of The Second International Data Acquisition Workshop written by Shuhei Ajimura and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-07-15 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workshop followed the First International Conference, which was hosted by Fermilab, on 26-28 October, 1994. That conference discussed the switch type event builder. Much intensive R&D work ensued from it, showing the importance of (1) data flow control and (2) high speed memory access on network adapters/drivers. Those two themes are involved in many networked data acquisition systems. Therefore, “Networked Data Acquisition Systems” was selected as the theme of DAQ 96. It includes a wide variety of data acquisition system presentations from present and near-future experiments at high energy and nuclear physics laboratories.

Download or read book Spread Spectrum in Communication written by Reidar Skaug and published by IET. This book was released on 1985 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to advanced radiocommunication, discussing the merits and operational aspects of spread spectrum signalling. Spread spectrum modulation is emerging as one of the most important tools for combatting a wide range of problems usually encountered in radiocommunication. For military applications the signalling is able to resist difficulties deliberately introduced by an enemy, such as jamming and eavesdropping. For civil application, the efficient signal multiplexing and multipath rejection capability is of great interest. The price paid however is the need for very complex processing of the radio signals. This task put great challenges on new technologies and design, and it is only recently that operational systems have started to emerge from the laboratories. The book starts by comparing spread spectrum modulation and conventional modulation methods, and then discusses demodulation, which requires both special acquisition and synchronisation techniques. The electronic warfare scenario is introduced, discussing the principles of various spreading techniques and possible countermeasures. The coding for bandwidth spreading in a direct sequence spread spectrum system is treated by discussing the most common codes and their different figures of merit with respect to multipath, code division multiplexing and signal concealment. The book also illustrates the possible benefits, as well as limits to the use of new hardware technology to accomplish the various functions necessary for successful operation of a spread spectrum system. The effect of the propagation environment on spread spectrum is treated both analytically and through reported experiments and simulations. Finally the book considers the task of designing a complete communication network and discusses the usefulness and technology for additional interference suppressing techniques suitable to work with spread spectrum systems.

Download or read book RF Photonic Technology in Optical Fiber Links written by William S. C. Chang and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-05-14 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many applications, radio frequency (RF) signals need to be transmitted and processed without being digitalized. This volume presents a review of RF photonic components, transmission systems, and signal processing examples in optical fibers from leading academic, government, and industry scientists working in this field. It also introduces the reader to various related technologies such as direct modulation of laser sources, external modulation techniques, and detectors. The text is aimed at engineers and scientists engaged in the research and development of optical fibers and analog RF applications. With an emphasis on design, performance and practical application, this book will be of particular interest to those developing systems based on this technology.
