Book Sulfur Compounds in Petroleum

Download or read book Sulfur Compounds in Petroleum written by H. J. Coleman and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sulfur-containing constituents of petroleum have been of interest and concern to the petroleum industry almost since its beginning. However, only within the last 15 years has any significant progress been made in the identification of these sulfur compounds. This paper presents methods used in the isolation and identification of sulfur compounds and lists, by type or class, the 141 individual compounds identified in four crude oils by the Bureau of Mines-Am. Petroleum Inst. Research Project 48. Based on available techniques and identifications accomplished, suggestions are made relative to methods needed in future composition studies. The procedures described should have general application in the characterization of any crude oil.

Book Crude Oil Fouling

Download or read book Crude Oil Fouling written by Francesco Coletti and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With production from unconventional rigs continuing to escalate and refineries grappling with the challenges of shale and heavier oil feedstocks, petroleum engineers and refinery managers must ensure that equipment used with today’s crude oil is protected from fouling deposits Crude Oil Fouling addresses this overarching challenge for the petroleum community with clear explanations on what causes fouling, current models and new approaches to evaluate and study the formation of deposits, and how today’s models could be applied from lab experiment to onsite field usability for not just the refinery, but for the rig, platform, or pipeline. Crude Oil Fouling is a must-have reference for every petroleum engineer’s library that gives the basic framework needed to analyze, model, and integrate the best fouling strategies and operations for crude oil systems. Defines the most critical variables and events that cause fouling Explains the consequences of fouling and its impact on operations, safety, and economics Provides the technical models available to better predict and eliminate the potential for fouling in any crude system

Book Spectroscopic Methods for the Determination of Sulfur in Petroleum Products

Download or read book Spectroscopic Methods for the Determination of Sulfur in Petroleum Products written by R. A. Kishore Nadkarni and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sulfur either in elemental form or as its organic and inorganic compounds is present in most petroleum products and lubricants in varying concentrations, from high levels in some crude oils and lubricant additives to trace amounts in certain processed petroleum products. Sulfur originates in crude oil from natural sources from its marine animal and vegetative origins deposited with sediment in coastal waters in prehistoric times. Over the millennia, sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen, and other volatile compounds evolved out of this primordial mixture due to the bacterial actions and thermal and environmental pressure leaving behind a mixture of hydrocarbons containing some of these elements, metals, and other compounds. In additives and lubricating oils, sulfur compounds are added as metal compounds acting as performance improvers [1].

Book Sulfur Analogues of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Thiaarenes

Download or read book Sulfur Analogues of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Thiaarenes written by Jürgen Jacob and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1990 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1990. Sulfur containing polycyclic aromatic compounds (thiaarenes) play a potentially important role in environmentally induced cancers. The main sources of these compounds being fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum and shale oils from which they are released either directly or via combustion into the environment. Information on the specific contribution of thiaarenes to the mutagenic and carcinogenic potencies of environmental matter is very limited but this book gives credit to new and exciting data in this field. Our present knowledge of the occurrence, chemical and physical properties, analysis, synthesis, toxicology and biochemistry of the sulfur containing aromatic compounds is summarized in this volume. The first half of the book covers all aspects of chemistry and carcinogenicity, whilst the remainder summarizes information on the various thiaarene systems, compound by compound. This volume will provide a valuable source of reference for chemists, ' toxicologists, biologists and environmentalists working in cancer research institutes and universities and for research scientists working in the areas of pollution monitoring, public health and fuel chemistry.

Book Energy and Problems of a Technical Society

Download or read book Energy and Problems of a Technical Society written by Jack J. Kraushaar and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1993 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text stresses a quantitative approach with enough real physics and other sciences used to put the topics on a sound basis for students who have had little mathematical or scientific background. It continues to cover the physics of energy and the environment. The goal of the text is to bring an understanding of the technological problems facing our society to the attention of students. This text carefully discusses the impact of our actions on the lifetimes of resources, offering motivation for the reader to become interested in the material.
