Book Identification of Dynamic Systems

Download or read book Identification of Dynamic Systems written by Rolf Isermann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-22 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precise dynamic models of processes are required for many applications, ranging from control engineering to the natural sciences and economics. Frequently, such precise models cannot be derived using theoretical considerations alone. Therefore, they must be determined experimentally. This book treats the determination of dynamic models based on measurements taken at the process, which is known as system identification or process identification. Both offline and online methods are presented, i.e. methods that post-process the measured data as well as methods that provide models during the measurement. The book is theory-oriented and application-oriented and most methods covered have been used successfully in practical applications for many different processes. Illustrative examples in this book with real measured data range from hydraulic and electric actuators up to combustion engines. Real experimental data is also provided on the Springer webpage, allowing readers to gather their first experience with the methods presented in this book. Among others, the book covers the following subjects: determination of the non-parametric frequency response, (fast) Fourier transform, correlation analysis, parameter estimation with a focus on the method of Least Squares and modifications, identification of time-variant processes, identification in closed-loop, identification of continuous time processes, and subspace methods. Some methods for nonlinear system identification are also considered, such as the Extended Kalman filter and neural networks. The different methods are compared by using a real three-mass oscillator process, a model of a drive train. For many identification methods, hints for the practical implementation and application are provided. The book is intended to meet the needs of students and practicing engineers working in research and development, design and manufacturing.

Book Optimization and Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Optimization and Dynamical Systems written by Uwe Helmke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is aimed at mathematics and engineering graduate students and researchers in the areas of optimization, dynamical systems, control sys tems, signal processing, and linear algebra. The motivation for the results developed here arises from advanced engineering applications and the emer gence of highly parallel computing machines for tackling such applications. The problems solved are those of linear algebra and linear systems the ory, and include such topics as diagonalizing a symmetric matrix, singular value decomposition, balanced realizations, linear programming, sensitivity minimization, and eigenvalue assignment by feedback control. The tools are those, not only of linear algebra and systems theory, but also of differential geometry. The problems are solved via dynamical sys tems implementation, either in continuous time or discrete time , which is ideally suited to distributed parallel processing. The problems tackled are indirectly or directly concerned with dynamical systems themselves, so there is feedback in that dynamical systems are used to understand and optimize dynamical systems. One key to the new research results has been the recent discovery of rather deep existence and uniqueness results for the solution of certain matrix least squares optimization problems in geomet ric invariant theory. These problems, as well as many other optimization problems arising in linear algebra and systems theory, do not always admit solutions which can be found by algebraic methods.

Book Control Identification and Input Optimization

Download or read book Control Identification and Input Optimization written by Robert Kalaba and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained text devoted to the numerical determination of optimal inputs for system identification. It presents the current state of optimal inputs with extensive background material on optimization and system identification. The field of optimal inputs has been an area of considerable research recently with important advances by R. Mehra, G. c. Goodwin, M. Aoki, and N. E. Nahi, to name just a few eminent in vestigators. The authors' interest in optimal inputs first developed when F. E. Yates, an eminent physiologist, expressed the need for optimal or preferred inputs to estimate physiological parameters. The text assumes no previous knowledge of optimal control theory, numerical methods for solving two-point boundary-value problems, or system identification. As such it should be of interest to students as well as researchers in control engineering, computer science, biomedical en gineering, operations research, and economics. In addition the sections on beam theory should be of special interest to mechanical and civil en gineers and the sections on eigenvalues should be of interest to numerical analysts. The authors have tried to present a balanced viewpoint; however, primary emphasis is on those methods in which they have had first-hand experience. Their work has been influenced by many authors. Special acknowledgment should go to those listed above as well as R. Bellman, A. Miele, G. A. Bekey, and A. P. Sage. The book can be used for a two-semester course in control theory, system identification, and optimal inputs.

Book Deterministic Identification of Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Deterministic Identification of Dynamical Systems written by Christiaan Heij and published by Springer. This book was released on 1989-08-31 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In deterministic identification the identified system is determined on the basis of a complexity measure of models and a misfit measure of models with respect to data. The choice of these measures and corresponding notions of optimality depend on the objectives of modelling. In this monograph, the cases of exact modelling, model reduction and approximate modelling are investigated. For the case of exact modelling a procedure is presented which is inspired by objectives of simplicity and corroboration. This procedure also gives a new solution for the partial realization problem. Further, appealing measures of complexity and distance for linear systems are defined and explicit numerical expressions are derived. A simple and new procedure for approximating a given system by one of less complexity is described. Finally, procedures and algorithms for deterministic time series analysis are presented. The procedures and algorithms are illustrated by simple examples and by numerical simulations.

Book Performance Driven Robust Identification and Control of Uncertain Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Performance Driven Robust Identification and Control of Uncertain Dynamical Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The grant DEFG02-97ER13939 from the Department of Energy has supported our research program on robust identification and control of uncertain dynamical systems, initially for the three-year period June 15, 1997-June 14, 2000, which was then extended on a no-cost basis for another year until June 14, 2001. This final report provides an overview of our research conducted during this period, along with a complete list of publications supported by the Grant. Within the scope of this project, we have studied fundamental issues that arise in modeling, identification, filtering, control, stabilization, control-based model reduction, decomposition and aggregation, and optimization of uncertain systems. The mathematical framework we have worked in has allowed the system dynamics to be only partially known (with the uncertainties being of both parametric or structural nature), and further the dynamics to be perturbed by unknown dynamic disturbances. Our research over these four years has generated a substantial body of new knowledge, and has led to new major developments in theory, applications, and computational algorithms. These have all been documented in various journal articles and book chapters, and have been presented at leading conferences, as to be described. A brief description of the results we have obtained within the scope of this project can be found in Section 3. To set the stage for the material of that section, we first provide in the next section (Section 2) a brief description of the issues that arise in the control of uncertain systems, and introduce several criteria under which optimality will lead to robustness and stability. Section 4 contains a list of references cited in these two sections. A list of our publications supported by the DOE Grant (covering the period June 15, 1997-June 14, 2001) comprises Section 5 of the report.

Book Developments in Model Based Optimization and Control

Download or read book Developments in Model Based Optimization and Control written by Sorin Olaru and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-23 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with optimization methods as tools for decision making and control in the presence of model uncertainty. It is oriented to the use of these tools in engineering, specifically in automatic control design with all its components: analysis of dynamical systems, identification problems, and feedback control design. Developments in Model-Based Optimization and Control takes advantage of optimization-based formulations for such classical feedback design objectives as stability, performance and feasibility, afforded by the established body of results and methodologies constituting optimal control theory. It makes particular use of the popular formulation known as predictive control or receding-horizon optimization. The individual contributions in this volume are wide-ranging in subject matter but coordinated within a five-part structure covering material on: · complexity and structure in model predictive control (MPC); · collaborative MPC; · distributed MPC; · optimization-based analysis and design; and · applications to bioprocesses, multivehicle systems or energy management. The various contributions cover a subject spectrum including inverse optimality and more modern decentralized and cooperative formulations of receding-horizon optimal control. Readers will find fourteen chapters dedicated to optimization-based tools for robustness analysis, and decision-making in relation to feedback mechanisms—fault detection, for example—and three chapters putting forward applications where the model-based optimization brings a novel perspective. Developments in Model-Based Optimization and Control is a selection of contributions expanded and updated from the Optimisation-based Control and Estimation workshops held in November 2013 and November 2014. It forms a useful resource for academic researchers and graduate students interested in the state of the art in predictive control. Control engineers working in model-based optimization and control, particularly in its bioprocess applications will also find this collection instructive.
