It has also provided contributors with a medium in which they can explore their subjects in greater depth and breadth than journal articles usually allow. As a result, many articles have become standard references that continue to be of sugnificant, lasting value in this rapidly expanding field. In-depth surveys and tutorials on new computer technology Well-known authors and researchers in the field Extensive bibliographies with most chapters Many of the volumes are devoted to single themes or subfields of computer science

Book Tools for High Performance Computing 2009

Download or read book Tools for High Performance Computing 2009 written by Matthias S. Müller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-27 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As more and more hardware platforms support parallelism, parallel programming is gaining momentum. Applications can only leverage the performance of multi-core processors or graphics processing units if they are able to split a problem into smaller ones that can be solved in parallel. The challenges emerging from the development of parallel applications have led to the development of a great number of tools for debugging, performance analysis and other tasks. The proceedings of the 3rd International Workshop on Parallel Tools for High Performance Computing provide a technical overview in order to help engineers, developers and computer scientists decide which tools are best suited to enhancing their current development processes.

Book Leading Issues in Cyber Warfare and Security

Download or read book Leading Issues in Cyber Warfare and Security written by Julie Ryan and published by Academic Conferences and publishing limited. This book was released on 2015-10 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost every day sees new reports of information systems that have been hacked, broken into, compromised, and sometimes even destroyed. The prevalence of such stories reveals an overwhelming weakness in the security of the systems we increasingly rely on for everything: shopping, banking, health services, education, and even voting. That these problems persist even as the world rushes headlong into the Internet-of-Things and cloud based everything underscores the importance of understanding the current and potential aspects of information warfare, also known as cyberwarfare. Having passed through into the third generation of information warfare, we now must consider what the fourth generation might look like. Where we are now is not unlike trench warfare, only in cyberspace. Where we go next will emerge in an international landscape that is considering the implications of current capabilities on notions of just warfare, sovereignty, and individual freedoms. The papers in this book have been selected to provide the reader with a broad appreciation for the challenges that accompany the evolution of the use of information, information technologies, and connectedness in all things. The papers are important contributions, representing 8 different countries or regions, that create a truly global thought presentation.

Book Energy Efficient Computing and Data Centers

Download or read book Energy Efficient Computing and Data Centers written by Luigi Brochard and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-09-11 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data centers consume roughly 1% of the total electricity demand, while ICT as a whole consumes around 10%. Demand is growing exponentially and, left unchecked, will grow to an estimated increase of 20% or more by 2030. This book covers the energy consumption and minimization of the different data center components when running real workloads, taking into account the types of instructions executed by the servers. It presents the different air- and liquid-cooled technologies for servers and data centers with some real examples, including waste heat reuse through adsorption chillers, as well as the hardware and software used to measure, model and control energy. It computes and compares the Power Usage Effectiveness and the Total Cost of Ownership of new and existing data centers with different cooling designs, including free cooling and waste heat reuse leading to the Energy Reuse Effectiveness. The book concludes by demonstrating how a well-designed data center reusing waste heat to produce chilled water can reduce energy consumption by roughly 50%, and how renewable energy can be used to create net-zero energy data centers.

Book Risk Analysis

Download or read book Risk Analysis written by Jean-Marie Flaus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-08-05 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An overview of the methods used for risk analysis in a variety of industrial sectors, with a particular focus on the consideration of human aspects, this book provides a definition of all the fundamental notions associated with risks and risk management, as well as clearly placing the discipline of risk analysis within the broader context of risk management processes. The author begins by presenting a certain number of basic concepts, followed by the general principle of risk analysis. He then moves on to examine the ISO31000 standard, which provides a specification for the implementation of a risk management approach. The ability to represent the information we use is crucial, so the representation of knowledge, covering both information concerning the risk occurrence mechanism and details of the system under scrutiny, is also considered. The different analysis methods are then presented, firstly for the identification of risks, then for their analysis in terms of cause and effect, and finally for the implementation of safety measures. Concrete examples are given throughout the book and the methodology and method can be applied to various fields (industry, health, organization, technical systems). Contents Part 1.
