Book Galois Theory and Modular Forms

Download or read book Galois Theory and Modular Forms written by Ki-ichiro Hashimoto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an outgrowth of the research project "The Inverse Ga lois Problem and its Application to Number Theory" which was carried out in three academic years from 1999 to 2001 with the support of the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) (1) No. 11440013. In September, 2001, an international conference "Galois Theory and Modular Forms" was held at Tokyo Metropolitan University after some preparatory work shops and symposia in previous years. The title of this book came from that of the conference, and the authors were participants of those meet All of the articles here were critically refereed by experts. Some of ings. these articles give well prepared surveys on branches of research areas, and many articles aim to bear the latest research results accompanied with carefully written expository introductions. When we started our re~earch project, we picked up three areas to investigate under the key word "Galois groups"; namely, "generic poly nomials" to be applied to number theory, "Galois coverings of algebraic curves" to study new type of representations of absolute Galois groups, and explicitly described "Shimura varieties" to understand well the Ga lois structures of some interesting polynomials including Brumer's sextic for the alternating group of degree 5. The topics of the articles in this volume are widely spread as a result. At a first glance, some readers may think this book somewhat unfocussed.

Book p Adic Automorphic Forms on Shimura Varieties

Download or read book p Adic Automorphic Forms on Shimura Varieties written by Haruzo Hida and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early years of the 1980s, while I was visiting the Institute for Ad vanced Study (lAS) at Princeton as a postdoctoral member, I got a fascinating view, studying congruence modulo a prime among elliptic modular forms, that an automorphic L-function of a given algebraic group G should have a canon ical p-adic counterpart of several variables. I immediately decided to find out the reason behind this phenomenon and to develop the theory of ordinary p-adic automorphic forms, allocating 10 to 15 years from that point, putting off the intended arithmetic study of Shimura varieties via L-functions and Eisenstein series (for which I visited lAS). Although it took more than 15 years, we now know (at least conjecturally) the exact number of variables for a given G, and it has been shown that this is a universal phenomenon valid for holomorphic automorphic forms on Shimura varieties and also for more general (nonholomorphic) cohomological automorphic forms on automorphic manifolds (in a markedly different way). When I was asked to give a series of lectures in the Automorphic Semester in the year 2000 at the Emile Borel Center (Centre Emile Borel) at the Poincare Institute in Paris, I chose to give an exposition of the theory of p-adic (ordinary) families of such automorphic forms p-adic analytically de pending on their weights, and this book is the outgrowth of the lectures given there.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic book contains an introduction to systems of l-adic representations, a topic of great importance in number theory and algebraic geometry, as reflected by the spectacular recent developments on the Taniyama-Weil conjecture and Fermat's Last Theorem. The initial chapters are devoted to the Abelian case (complex multiplication), where one

Book Hilbert Modular Forms and Iwasawa Theory

Download or read book Hilbert Modular Forms and Iwasawa Theory written by Haruzo Hida and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2006-06-15 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1995 work of Wiles and Taylor-Wiles opened up a whole new technique in algebraic number theory and, a decade on, the waves caused by this incredibly important work are still being felt. This book, authored by a leading researcher, describes the striking applications that have been found for this technique. In the book, the deformation theoretic techniques of Wiles-Taylor are first generalized to Hilbert modular forms (following Fujiwara's treatment), and some applications found by the author are then discussed. With many exercises and open questions given, this text is ideal for researchers and graduate students entering this research area.

Book Three dimensional Galois Representations and a Conjecture of Ash Doud and Pollack

Download or read book Three dimensional Galois Representations and a Conjecture of Ash Doud and Pollack written by Vinh Xuan Dang and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1970s and 1980s, Jean-Pierre Serre formulated a conjecture connecting two-dimensional Galois representations and modular forms. The conjecture came to be known as Serre's modularity conjecture. It was recently proved by Khare and Wintenberger in 2008. Serre's conjecture has various important consequences in number theory. Most notably, it played a key role in the proof of Fermat's last theorem. A natural question is, what is the analogue of Serre's conjecture for higher dimensional Galois representations? In 2002, Ash, Doud and Pollack formulated a precise statement for a higher dimensional analogue of Serre's conjecture. They also provided numerous computational examples as evidence for this generalized conjecture. We consider the three-dimensional version of the Ash-Doud-Pollack conjecture. We find specific examples of three-dimensional Galois representations and computationally verify the generalized conjecture in all these examples.

Book Geometric Modular Forms and Elliptic Curves

Download or read book Geometric Modular Forms and Elliptic Curves written by Haruzo Hida and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive account of the theory of moduli spaces of elliptic curves (over integer rings) and its application to modular forms. The construction of Galois representations, which play a fundamental role in Wiles' proof of the Shimura?Taniyama conjecture, is given. In addition, the book presents an outline of the proof of diverse modularity results of two-dimensional Galois representations (including that of Wiles), as well as some of the author's new results in that direction. In this new second edition, a detailed description of Barsotti?Tate groups (including formal Lie groups) is added to Chapter 1. As an application, a down-to-earth description of formal deformation theory of elliptic curves is incorporated at the end of Chapter 2 (in order to make the proof of regularity of the moduli of elliptic curve more conceptual), and in Chapter 4, though limited to ordinary cases, newly incorporated are Ribet's theorem of full image of modular p-adic Galois representation and its generalization to ?big? ?-adic Galois representations under mild assumptions (a new result of the author). Though some of the striking developments described above is out of the scope of this introductory book, the author gives a taste of present day research in the area of Number Theory at the very end of the book (giving a good account of modularity theory of abelian ?-varieties and ?-curves).

Book Computations with Modular Forms

Download or read book Computations with Modular Forms written by Gebhard Böckle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-23 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains original research articles, survey articles and lecture notes related to the Computations with Modular Forms 2011 Summer School and Conference, held at the University of Heidelberg. A key theme of the Conference and Summer School was the interplay between theory, algorithms and experiment. The 14 papers offer readers both, instructional courses on the latest algorithms for computing modular and automorphic forms, as well as original research articles reporting on the latest developments in the field. The three Summer School lectures provide an introduction to modern algorithms together with some theoretical background for computations of and with modular forms, including computing cohomology of arithmetic groups, algebraic automorphic forms, and overconvergent modular symbols. The 11 Conference papers cover a wide range of themes related to computations with modular forms, including lattice methods for algebraic modular forms on classical groups, a generalization of the Maeda conjecture, an efficient algorithm for special values of p-adic Rankin triple product L-functions, arithmetic aspects and experimental data of Bianchi groups, a theoretical study of the real Jacobian of modular curves, results on computing weight one modular forms, and more.
