Book Plankton Stratigraphy Volume 2 Radiolaria Diatoms Silicoflagellates Dinoflagellates and Ichthyoliths

Download or read book Plankton Stratigraphy Volume 2 Radiolaria Diatoms Silicoflagellates Dinoflagellates and Ichthyoliths written by Hans M. Bolli and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1989-05-25 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive synthesis of our knowledge of the biostratigraphy of marine plankton is the work of an international team of eighteen authors. It covers all the major fossil groups that can be used to date sediments and rocks in the time interval Late Mesozoic to Holocene. Altogether more than 3200 taxa are considered, almost all of which are illustrated and depicted on range charts, making the book a valuable work of reference in the earth sciences. For ease of reference by specialists interested in either calcareous or non-calcareous microfossils, the original work is now divided into two independent volumes. Volume 2 describes siliceous and other non-calcareous microfossils, covering radiolaria, diatoms, silicoflagellates, dinoflagellates and ichthyoliths.

Book Pennsylvanian Ichthyoliths from the Shawnee Group of Eastern Kansas

Download or read book Pennsylvanian Ichthyoliths from the Shawnee Group of Eastern Kansas written by Linda E. Tway and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Repetition of lithologies in the Shawnee Group of eastern Kansas provides an ideal situation for testing the dependence of such fossil types as ichthyoliths on their paleoenvironments. Ichthyoliths are abundant and diverse in the Shawnee Group and occur in horizons that are otherwise unfossiliferous.

Book Taxonomy and Biostratigraphy of Middle and Late Triassic Elasmobranch Ichthyoliths from Northeastern British Columbia

Download or read book Taxonomy and Biostratigraphy of Middle and Late Triassic Elasmobranch Ichthyoliths from Northeastern British Columbia written by M. J. Johns and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diverse and abundant Middle and Late Triassic elasmobranch ichthyoliths (microscopic shark teeth and scales) coexisting with conodonts, ammonoids, and bivalves recovered from carbonates in the Peace River area of British Columbia provide an excellent biostratigraphic framework for Triassic strata. This report provides systematic descriptions and illustrations of Triassic elasmobranch ichthyoliths including seven species of teeth and 19 new form genera and 53 new form species of scales. A provisional ichthyolith zonation for the Middle and Upper Triassic is proposed for the Peace River area, and new approaches to ichthyolith identification are discussed. Results from this study demonstrate the use of ichthyoliths in basin analyses to data and correlate strata.

Book Introduction to Paleobiology and the Fossil Record

Download or read book Introduction to Paleobiology and the Fossil Record written by Michael J. Benton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-04-14 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive overview of the science of the history of life. Paleobiologists bring many analytical tools to bear in interpreting the fossil record and the book introduces the latest techniques, from multivariate investigations of biogeography and biostratigraphy to engineering analysis of dinosaur skulls, and from homeobox genes to cladistics. All the well-known fossil groups are included, including microfossils and invertebrates, but an important feature is the thorough coverage of plants, vertebrates and trace fossils together with discussion of the origins of both life and the metazoans. All key related subjects are introduced, such as systematics, ecology, evolution and development, stratigraphy and their roles in understanding where life came from and how it evolved and diversified. Unique features of the book are the numerous case studies from current research that lead students to the primary literature, analytical and mathematical explanations and tools, together with associated problem sets and practical schedules for instructors and students. New to this edition The text and figures have been updated throughout to reflect current opinion on all aspects New case studies illustrate the chapters, drawn from a broad distribution internationally Chapters on Macroevolution, Form and Function, Mass extinctions, Origin of Life, and Origin of Metazoans have been entirely rewritten to reflect substantial advances in these topics There is a new focus on careers in paleobiology

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 48 of Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry represents the work of many authors whose research illustrates how the unique chemical and physical behavior of phosphate minerals permits a wide range of applications that encompasses phosphate mineralogy, petrology, biomineralization, geochronology, and materials science. While diverse, these fields are all linked structurally, crystal-chemically and geochemically. As geoscientists turn their attention to the intersection of the biological, geological, and material science realms, there is no group of compounds more germane than the phosphates.

Book Introduction to Microfossil Biostratigraphy

Download or read book Introduction to Microfossil Biostratigraphy written by M. Dan Georgescu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook will appeal to students and graduates making their first steps in the application of both microfossils and stratigraphy. It presents, in detail, the historical development of microfossil biostratigraphy, from its birth to the emergence of sequence stratigraphy, including its roots in classical biostratigraphy. The interplay between the academic and economical challenges, on one hand, and developments in microfossil biostratigraphy, on the other, is explored thoroughly. The book also presents an introduction to the scientific concepts used in microfossil biostratigraphy practice, and the uses in microbiostratigraphy of 25 groups of microfossils, such as algae, protistans, reproductive plant debris, invertebrates, chordates and vertebrates, and microproblematica groups. It also provides a numerical method to calculate the biostratigraphical resolution of these microfossil groups.
