Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides complete coverage of the recovery of mineral nutrients from biomass and organic waste This book presents a comprehensive overview of the potential for mineral recovery from wastes, addressing technological issues as well as economic, ecological, and agronomic full-scale field assessments. It serves as a complete reference work for experts in the field and provides teaching material for future experts specializing in environmental technology sectors. Biorefinery of Inorganics: Recovering Mineral Nutrients from Biomass and Organic Waste starts by explaining the concept of using anaerobic digestion as a biorefinery for production of an energy carrier in addition to mineral secondary resources. It then discusses the current state of mineral fertilizer use throughout the world, offering readers a complete look at the resource availability and energy intensity. Technical aspects of mineral recovery organic (waste-)streams is discussed next, followed by an examination of the economics of biobased products and their mineral counterparts. The book also covers the environmental impact assessment of the production and use of bio-based fertilizers; modelling and optimization of nutrient recovery from wastes; and more. Discusses global production and consumption of mineral fertilizers Introduces technologies for the recovery of mineral NPK from organic wastes and residues Covers chemical characterization and speciation of refined secondary resources, and shows readers how to assess biobased mineral resources Discusses applications of recovered minerals in the inorganic chemistry sector Compares the economics of biobased products with current fossil-based counterparts Offers an ecological assessment of introducing biobased products in the current fertilizer industry Edited by leading experts in the field Biorefinery of Inorganics: Recovering Mineral Nutrients from Biomass and Organic Waste is an ideal book for scientists, environmental engineers, and end-users in the agro-industry, the waste industry, water and wastewater treatment, and agriculture. It will also be of great benefit to policy makers and regulators working in these fields.

Book 23 European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering

Download or read book 23 European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering written by Ergys Pahija and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-06-10 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Batch and semi-batch reactors are widely used for fine chemical productions. The target in the fine chemical industry is to produce a high quality product and operational optimization is the key-element to match it. This work investigates how batch and semibatch reactors can be optimized in order to increase the yield of a desired product. Optimization problem is formulated and applied to calculate the optimal operating parameters such as the reactor temperature and the feed flow rate. Comparison and considerations on the two reactor configurations are given.

Book Biofuels from Algae

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jin Liu
  • Publisher : Elsevier Inc. Chapters
  • Release : 2013-08-08
  • ISBN : 0128083700
  • Pages : 68 pages

Download or read book Biofuels from Algae written by Jin Liu and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-08-08 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algae have long been recognized as potential feedstock to produce oils. In recent years, the use of algae, in particular, Chlorella, for heterotrophic oil production has gained increasing interest due to its fast growth, ultrahigh cell density, and superior oil productivity. The current technology for heterotrophic production of algal oils, however, is still far from economically viable because of its high production cost. The opportunities that lie ahead for improving the production economics of heterotrophic algal oils will be the advances in exploration of low-cost carbon alternatives, advanced culture systems, and genetic engineering of algal strains for improvement as well as the biorefinery-based integrated production of oils and coproducts. Breakthroughs and innovations in these areas are sought to expand heterotrophic production of algae from high-value products to cheap commodity products of oils.

Book 21st European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering

Download or read book 21st European Symposium on Computer Aided Process Engineering written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 2086 pages.
