This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings are the work of researchers contributing to the 2nd International Conference on Cloud Security Management Security (ICCSM 2014), being held this year at the University of Reading, UK on the 23-24 October 2014, . The conference chair is Dr John McCarthy, Vice President, from the Cyber Security, ServiceTech, UK and the Programme Chair is Dr. Barbara Endicott-Popovsky, from the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, University of Washington, Seattle, USA. As organisations rush to adopt Cloud Computing at a rate faster than originally projected, it is safe to predict that, over the coming years, Cloud Computing will have major impacts, not only on the way we conduct science and research, but also on the quality of our daily human lives. Computation research, education, and business communities have been exploring the potential benefits of Cloud Computing and the changes these imply. Experts have predicted that the move to the cloud will alter significantly the content of IT jobs, with cloud clients needing fewer hands-on skills and more skills that administer and manage information. Bill Gates was recently quoted: "How you gather, manage, and use information will determine whether you win or lose." Cloud Computing impacts will be broad and pervasive, applying to public and private institutions alike.

Book excerpt: The emergence of the cloud as infrastructure: experts from a range of disciplines consider policy issues including reliability, privacy, consumer protection, national security, and copyright. The emergence of cloud computing marks the moment when computing has become, materially and symbolically, infrastructure—a sociotechnical system that is ubiquitous, essential, and foundational. Increasingly integral to the operation of other critical infrastructures, such as transportation, energy, and finance, it functions, in effect, as a meta-infrastructure. As such, the cloud raises a variety of policy and governance issues, among them market regulation, fairness, access, reliability, privacy, national security, and copyright. In this book, experts from a range of disciplines offer their perspectives on these and other concerns. The contributors consider such topics as the economic implications of the cloud's shifting of computing resources from ownership to rental; the capacity of regulation to promote reliability while preserving innovation; the applicability of contract theory to enforce service guarantees; the differing approaches to privacy taken by United States and the European Union in the post-Snowden era; the delocalization or geographic dispersal of the archive; and the cloud-based virtual representations of our body in electronic health data. Contributors Nicholas Bauch, Jean-François Blanchette, Marjory Blumenthal, Sandra Braman, Jonathan Cave, Lothar Determann, Luciana Duranti, Svitlana Kobzar, William Lehr, David Nimmer, Andrea Renda, Neil Robinson, Helen Rebecca Schindler, Joe Weinman, Christopher S. Book Records Classification Concepts Principles and Methods

Download or read book Records Classification Concepts Principles and Methods written by Umi Asma' Mokhtar and published by Chandos Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-19 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Records Classification: Concepts, Principles and Methods: Information, Systems, Context introduces classification, an early part of the research lifecycle. Classification ensures systematic organization of documents and facilitates information retrieval. However, classification systems are not prevalent in records management when compared to their use in other information fields. This book views classification from the records management (RM) perspective by adopting a qualitative approach, with case studies, to gather data by means of interview and document content analysis. Current development of information systems do not take into account the concept of classification from a RM perspective. Such a model is required because the incorporation of information and communication technology (ICT) in managing records is inevitable. The concept of classification from an RM perspective ought to be extended to the ICT team to enable the development of a RM system not limited to storage and retrieval functions, but also with relation to disposal and preservation processes. This proposed model introduces function-based classification to ensure records are classified in context. - Gives a step-by-step functional model for constructing a classification system within an organization - Advocates for the importance of practicing classification for records, towards competent, transparent, and democratic organizations - Helps organizations build their own classification system, thus safeguarding information in a secure and systematic fashion - Provides local case studies from Malaysia and puts together a generic, globally applicable model
