Book Transformative Sustainability Education

Download or read book Transformative Sustainability Education written by Elizabeth A. Lange and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-28 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book lays out the principles and practices of transformative sustainability education using a relational way of thinking and being. Elizabeth A. Lange advocates for a new approach to environmental and sustainability education, that of rethinking the Western way of knowing and being and engendering a frank discussion about the societal elements that are generating climate, environmental, economic, and social issues. Highlighting the importance of Indigenous and life-giving cultures, the book covers educational theory, transformation stories of adult learners, social and economic critique, and visions of changemakers. Each chapter also has a strong pedagogical element, with entry points for learners and embodied practices and examples of taking action at micro/meso/macro levels woven throughout. Overall, this book enacts a relational approach to transformative sustainability education that draws from post humanist theory, process thought, relational ontology, decolonization theory, Indigenous philosophy, and a spirituality that builds a sense of sacred towards the living world. Written in an imaginative, storytelling manner, this book will be a great resource for formal and nonformal environmental and sustainability educators.

This book was released on 2023-08-30 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Haiti faces a challenging macroeconomic outlook amid a dire humanitarian crisis. The country has been hit hard by the economic spillovers from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with food price inflation triggering a hunger crisis. This global shock has been compounded by a highly volatile security situation, which has heightened the economy's fragility, hampered activity, and generated supply-side bottlenecks which have further fueled inflation. The flash floods which hit the country in early June caused loss of life and damage to key infrastructure. Risks to the outlook remain substantial.

Book The stalled transformation of food processing in Myanmar

Download or read book The stalled transformation of food processing in Myanmar written by Myanmar Agriculture Policy Support Activity (MAPSA) and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2023-01-23 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We assess the status and effects of the twin crises (COVID-19 and the military coup) on different segments (production, trade, and consumption) of Myanmar’s food processing sector. Since 2020, we note overall a stalled transformation in food processing in the country: 1. Production (post-farm): The food-processing sector – and especially rice milling – is shown to be very important, making up more than 80 percent of the revenue and value addition of the local industrial sector. The sector suffered substantially from the twin crises, as seen by reduced output and limited new investments in the two most recent years. 2. International trade: Myanmar is in most years a net agricultural exporter (in value terms). However, food exports are dominated by unprocessed and minimally processed products while food imports are mostly more expensive processed foods. While there was fast growth in international food trade between 2009 and 2019, new central bank regulations – focused on an import-substitution strategy to mitigate foreign exchange constraints – have altered trade substantially since. 3. Consumption: The categories of unprocessed and especially of minimally processed food products represent 64 and 23 percent of calories and food expenditures respectively, reflecting the importance of rice in Myanmar’s food economy. After the twin crises, the value of food consumption significantly decreased by 30 and 36 percent for rural and urban areas respectively between 2020 and 2022. However, consumption levels for rural residents are still lower after the crises than those of urban ones. Moreover, while real food consumption expenditures declined significantly for all income groups, the poorest suffered most from the crises as seen in the higher reduction of expenditures for the poorest quintiles (by 31 and 39 percent in rural and urban areas respectively).

Book Proceeding of the 3rd International Conference on Social Knowledge Sciences and Education ICSKSE 2023 Change and Continuity in Southeast Asia

Download or read book Proceeding of the 3rd International Conference on Social Knowledge Sciences and Education ICSKSE 2023 Change and Continuity in Southeast Asia written by Aditya Nugroho Widiadi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-27 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. Socio-culturally, people in the Southeast Asian region have a heterogeneous composition. This diversity can be seen from the large number of ethnic compositions that inhabit the region. For example, in Indonesia, there are already various ethnic groups, not yet to mention in other regions such as Malaysia, Philippine, and others. The diversity of these ethnic groups is directly proportional to the variety of languages that exist in Southeast Asia. Similarly with the languages, the culture in these ethnic groups is definitely diverse. Interestingly, this diversity is constantly changing, keeping up with the global changes. These changes are important to study, in order to get an overview of the socio-cultural changes and continuity that currently exist in the Southeast Asian region. The various changes and continuity that occur historically, geographically, and socio-culturally mentioned above, will also have various impacts on the educational aspect. Therefore, it is also pivotal to examine the various change and continuity that occur in the field of education of Southeast Asia. This is because the field of education will determine where Southeast Asia will be taken in the future.
