Book Basic Airman to General The Secret War Other Conflicts

Download or read book Basic Airman to General The Secret War Other Conflicts written by General ''Pete'' Piotrowski and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-01-29 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the remarkable success of a second-generation Polish kid who, at the age of eighteen, enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was one of less than a handful of basic airmen who rose to the rank of four-star general. More importantly, it covers the reincarnation of WW II Air Commandos under the code name of Jungle Jim, as well as US combat air operations from 1961 through 1967 flying obsolete B-26s and the newest jet fighter, the F-4D. Then airman Piotrowski qualified for aviation cadet training and earned his first wings as a navigator and electronic warfare officer (EWO). Following assignments in Korea and Japan, he returned to the United States for pilot training ranking number one in his class and qualifying for jet fighters. He was selected for Project Jungle Jim and became a leading air force expert in conventional weapons and tactics. His flying ability, combat experience, and tactical expertise led to his assignment at the Air Force Top Gun School to instruct air force generals headed for Vietnam on conventional weapons and tactics. Following school and staff assignments, he was selected to command the Fortieth Tactical Group, Aviano, Italy. He led the group for three years, receiving a rating as “Best Wing in the USAF.” Following Aviano, he was a special assistant to, and troubleshooter for, General Jones, air force chief. Shortly thereafter, he was selected to build the 552nd AWAC equipped with the E-3A aircraft and bring it to combat status. For his outstanding leadership of the 552nd AWAC Wing he received the prestigious Secretary of the Air Force Zukert Award.

Download or read book The Walleye War written by Larry Nesper and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For generations, the Ojibwe bands of northern Wisconsin have spearfished spawning walleyed pike in the springtime. The bands reserved hunting, fishing, and gathering rights on the lands that would become the northern third of Wisconsin in treaties signed withøthe federal government in 1837, 1842, and 1854. Those rights, however, would be ignored by the state of Wisconsin for more than a century. When a federal appeals court in 1983 upheld the bands' off-reservation rights, a deep and far-reaching conflict erupted between the Ojibwe bands and some of their non-Native neighbors. Starting in the mid-1980s, protesters and supporters flocked to the boat landings of lakes being spearfished; Ojibwe spearfisher-men were threatened, stoned, and shot at. Peace and protest rallies, marches, and ceremonies galvanized and rocked the local communities and reservations, and individuals and organizations from across the country poured into northern Wisconsin to take sides in the spearfishing dispute. From the front lines on lakes to tense, behind-the-scenes maneuvering on and off reservations, The Walleye War tells the riveting story of the spearfishing conflict, drawing on the experiences and perspectives of the members of the Lac du Flambeau reservation and an anthropologist who accompanied them on spearfishing expeditions. We learn of the historical roots and cultural significance of spearfishing and off-reservation treaty rights and we see why many modern Ojibwes and non-Natives view them in profoundly different ways. We also come to understand why the Flambeau tribal council and some tribal members disagreed with the spearfishermen and pursued a policy of negotiation with the state to lease the off-reservation treaty rights for fifty million dollars. Fought with rocks and metaphors, The Walleye War is the story of a Native people's struggle for dignity, identity, and self-preservation in the modern world.

Book Fishing the Maumee River Walleye Run

Download or read book Fishing the Maumee River Walleye Run written by Brian F. Miller and published by . This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At some point, most anglers realize their sport is so much more than catching a walleye. For me, it is the enjoyment of the spring sun warming my face on a cold morning. It's the time shared with my father and brother on the water. It's the cold splash of water from a walleye as I release him back for another day. It's the feeling of excitement when the reel screams out a cry from a walleye. The exhilaration overtook me at a young age and keeps me traveling back to continue the quest each year. It has been 25 years since I began my journey. Today I feel the need to share those experiences with others standing along the shores of the Maumee River. Inside these pages you will find a lifetime of experience fishing walleye on the river. The purpose of this book is to help you become more knowledgeable about fishing the walleye run. There are special techniques that only work in the Maumee River, secret tips only known by local fishermen, and timeframes to target trophy walleyes. When I look over the river there are more unproductive locations then productive. In these pages I will walk you through identifying the key locations regardless of the weather or river conditions. This will unlock the key for success even under the toughest conditions of rising water or cold fronts. Beyond techniques I have had the opportunity to study the walleye senses. A scientific look into walleye has helped me understand why some fishing techniques work and others do not. We will dig deep to explain vision as it relates to lure color; taste and smell as it relates to impregnated and spray on scent; lateral line and hearing as it relates to lure vibrations and boat noise. The ultimate question is answered within these pages. Where are the best locations to fish for walleye on the Maumee River? This book reaches far beyond the basics techniques, perfect for a novice or experienced walleye hunter. This is the most extensive information written on the Maumee River Walleye Run today. I firmly believe the knowledge and experience you will glean from these pages will help you become an extremely successful walleye river fisherman.
