Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

This book was released on 1999-08-16 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with polypyrazolylborates (scorpionates), a class of ligands known since 1966, but becoming rapidly popular with inorganic, organometallic and coordination chemists since 1986, because of their versatility and user-friendliness. They can be readily modified sterically and electronically through appropriate substitution on the pyrazole ring and on boron, and have led to a number of firsts in coordination chemistry (first stable CuCO complex, first monomeric MgR complex, and many other such firsts). Their denticity can range from two to four, their “Bite” can be adjusted, and additional coordinating sites can be added to the pyrazolyl rings. Over 170 different scorpionate ligands are known today, and some are published for the first time in this book. The author, Swiatoslaw Trofimenko, discovered and developed this ligand system and has written several reviews on the subject. The book is intended as a reference work, placing at the researcher's command practically all of the over 1500 references on the subject up, and into 1999, organized both according to the ligand type and according to the metal or metalloid being coordinated. It acquaints the reader with the special features of this ligand system and permits an assessment of what has been done in a given sub-area, and of which areas remain relatively unexplored. It presents procedures for ligand synthesis, and also covers their use in catalysis and in the modelling of biologically active substances.
Download or read book The Chemistry of the Hydrazo Azo and Azoxy Groups Volume 2 written by Saul Patai and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1997-12-29 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first volume of The Chemistry of the Hydrazo, Azo and Azoxy Groups was published in 1975 in two parts, and the present book is the second volume of this publication. Since 1975 three supplementary volumes dealing with the chemistry of double-bonded functional groups were also published in the Series and these volumes contain much material on the chemistry of azoxy compounds. Several subjects were omitted from the original volume in 1975. These omissions have been corrected in the present volume, which contains chapters on "Detection, identification and determination," on NMR, on ESR, on PES, on pharmacology and toxicology, and also on safety and environmental factors.
Download or read book Chemical Transformations of Polymers written by R. Rado and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Transformations of Polymers provides information pertinent to the fundamental structure and aspects of the chemical transformation of polymers. This book examines several experiments for the chemical transformation of polymers, which start from the assumption that the reactivity of a functional group in a macromolecule has to be similar as one in a low molecular compound. Organized into 19 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the various photochromic systems that have been used in polymer chemistry. This text then examines the three types of stable polymers with unpaired electrons, including polyradical ions, neutral polyradicals, and polymeric charge transfer complexes. Other chapters consider the kinetic laws and traits of migration mechanisms of free valence in the process of decay of free radicals in polymers. The final chapter deals with the complicated reaction of the degradation of polymers induced by the presence of metal compounds. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, scientists, and physiochemical researchers.
Download or read book Carbene Chemistry written by Wolfgang Kirmse and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbene Chemistry, Second Edition discusses the developments in various areas of carbene chemistry, including the correlation of spectroscopic studies of isolated carbenes with quantum chemical calculations; new carbene precursors; differentiation of carbenes and carbenoids; and mechanisms of single and triplet carbine reactions. This book is composed of two main parts encompassing 13 chapters. The first part covers the many reactions known to transfer a formally divalent carbon fragment from one molecule to another, with special emphasis on the mechanism and a critical evaluation of the evidence for carbene intermediates. The second part examines the multitude of product-forming reactions of carbenes and carbenoids with various substrates. This part also describes the structure-reactivity relationships for both carbenes and their substrates, followed by a discussion of the applications of carbene compounds in synthetic organic chemistry. This work will be of great value to organic chemists and researchers.

Download or read book The PMO Theory of Organic Chemistry written by Michael Dewar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces the perturbation molecular orbital (PMO) th,eory of organic chemistry. Organic chemistry encompasses the largest body of factual information of any of the major divisions of science. The sheer bulk of the subject matter makes many demands on any theory that attempts to systematize it. Time has shown that the PMO method meets these demands admirably. The PMO method can provide practicing chemists with both a pictorial description of bonding and qualitative theoretical results that are well founded in more sophisticated treatments. The only requirements for use of the theory are high school algebra and a pencil and paper. The treatment described in this book is by no means new. Indeed, it was developed as a complete theory of organic chemistry more than twenty years ago. Although it was demonstrably superior to resonance theory and no more complicated to use, it escaped notice for two very simple reasons. First, the original papers describing it were very condensed, perhaps even obscure, and contained few if any examples. Second, for various reasons, no general account appeared in book form until 1969,* and this was still relatively inaccessible, being in the form of a monograph where molecular orbital (MO) theory was treated mainly at a much more sophisticated level. The generality of the PMO method is illustrated by the fact that all the new developments over the last two decades can be accommodated in it.

This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of mechanistic organic chemistry is filled with claims of short-lived reactive intermediates connecting starting material to product. In many ways this book represents a personal odyssey of the editor in this area of chemistry. I well remember my introduction to organic chemistry as an undergraduate working in the laboratories of Shelton Bank at SUNY Albany in the early 1970s, and the excitement and frustration attending the piecing together of the details of a reaction mechanism by working backwards from the stable products of the reaction. In those days the reaction and the reactive intermediates flew by too rapidly to permit direct observation. Thus it came as something of a revelation to me as a graduate student at Yale that it was possible to slow down a reaction and actually "see" such ephemeral species as carbenes and biradicals by spectroscopic methods, by generating them photochemically at cryogenic temperatures. In this monograph several chap ters are devoted to low-temperature studies. Dougherty has described the matrix EPR spectra of biradicals, which were pure conjecture only ten years ago. Michl and Arnold have described the matrix spectroscopy of cyciobutadiene, a molecule that has fascinated organic chemists for over a hundred years. They have shown that by using a combination of matrix spec troscopic methods it is possible to learn nearly as much about the structure of cyciobutadiene, the prototypical antiaromatic biradicaloid, as about that of a common shelf-stable reagent.
