Download or read book Organometallic Chemistry written by E W Abel and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organometallic chemistry is an interdisciplinary science which continues to grow at a rapid pace. Although there is continued interest in synthetic and structural studies the last decade has seen a growing interest in the potential of organometallic chemistry to provide answers to problems in catalysis synthetic organic chemistry and also in the development of new materials. This Specialist Periodical Report aims to reflect these current interests reviewing progress in theoretical organometallic chemistry, main group chemistry, the lanthanides and all aspects of transition metal chemistry. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book Progress in Boron Chemistry

Download or read book Progress in Boron Chemistry written by R. J. Brotherton and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-12 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Boron Chemistry, Volume 3 discusses the chemistry and applications of boron and its compounds. This book offers a detailed treatment of five areas of boron chemistry. Organized into five chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the use of boric acid to favor alcohol formation in the air oxidation of hydrocarbons. This text then explains the standard procedure for hydrocarbon oxidation, which consists of passing air or a dilute oxygen in nitrogen stream via a suspension of boric acid in the heated substrate. Other chapters describe the radical-catalyzed addition of carbon tetrachloride to dibutyl vinylboronate and examine the growing interest in boron–nitrogen chemistry. This book discusses as well the polar addition of hydrogen bromide to unsaturated boronic esters. The final chapter deals with the chemical properties of organic boron–sulfur compounds. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, organic chemists, students, and research workers.

Book Studying Bonding and Electronic Structures of Materials Under Extreme Conditions

Download or read book Studying Bonding and Electronic Structures of Materials Under Extreme Conditions written by Shibing Wang and published by Stanford University. This book was released on 2011 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in high pressure diamond anvil cell techniques and synchrotron radiation characterization methods have enabled investigation of a wide range of materials properties in-situ under extreme conditions. High pressure studies have made significant contribution to our understanding in a number of scientific fields, e.g. condensed matter physics, chemistry, Earth and planetary sciences, and material sciences. Pressure, as a fundamental thermodynamic variable, can induce changes in the electronic and structural configuration of a material, which in turn can dramatically alter its properties. The novel phases and new compounds existing at high pressure have improved our basic understanding of bonding and interactions in condensed matter. This dissertation focuses on how pressure affects materials' bonding and electronic structures in two types of systems: hydrogen rich molecular compounds and strongly correlated transition metal oxides. The interaction of boranes and hydrogen was studied using optical microscopy and Raman spectroscopy and their hydrogen storage potential is discussed in the context of practical applications. The pressure-induced behavior of the SiH4 + H2 binary system and the formation of a newly formed compound SiH4(H2)2 were investigated using a combination of optical microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. The experimental work along with DFT calculations on the electronic properties of the compound up to the possible metallization pressure, indicated that there are strong intermolecular interactions between SiH4 and H2 in the condensed phase. By using a newly developed synchrotron x-ray spectroscopy technique, we were able to follow the evolution of the 3d band of a 3d transition metal oxide, Fe2O3 under pressure, which experiences a series of structural, electronic and spin transitions at approximately 50 GPa. Together with theoretical calculations we revisited its electronic phase transition mechanism, and found that the electronic transitions are reflected in the pre-edge region.

Book Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Boron Compounds

Download or read book Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Boron Compounds written by Heinrich Nöth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revolutionary impetus of the NMR methods in organic chemistry has parallels in the field of boron chemistry. lIB NMR spectroscopy provided a basis for the elucida tion of structures and reactions of the boron hydrides. However, although many studies have been carried out with the higher boranes, carboranes, metalloboranes, etc. , and although certain patterns have emerged, the correlation between the observed chemical shift and the assigned structural unit is still not fully understood. Therefore, predictions in this area are still rather limited, and semiquantitative interpretations are not yet pos sible. Several years ago Eaton and Lipscomb sUpImarized the status in this field in their book "NMR Studies of Boron Hydrides and Related Compounds" and a plethora of new data has accumulated since then. The book also contained material on simple bo rane derivatives, but they were not discussed in any detail. On the other hand many systematic studies, both synthetic and spectroscopic, have been conducted on these simple boron materials in the last decade. Thus a large amount of NMR information is available, not only on lIB but also on 1 H, 1 3 C, and 14 N. However, this information is widely scattered in the literature, and often the data are not discussed at all. It see med appropriate, therefore, to collect these data and to present them in one volume.

Book Boranes and Metallaboranes

Download or read book Boranes and Metallaboranes written by Catherine E. Housecroft and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise introduction to boranes and metalloboranes employs an informal and straightforward style. The author establishes facts first, and rationalization and theories follow. Ideas of cluster bonding are presented, and the author surveys different approaches to the bonding in clusters, emphasizing the use of frontier molecule orbitals and the construction of clusters from fragments. The application of spectroscopic techniques to the elucidation of cluster structure is discussed, with an emphasis on multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. The second edition includes an update on structural data for boranes and their anions. Sections on spectroscopy and the reactivity of metalloboranes have been slightly expanded and references have been updated.
