Book The Secret of Success

Download or read book The Secret of Success written by P. Larry Rogers and published by P. Larry Rogers. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is my first book in the "Secret" series. The Secret of Success, is the proposition that real peace and happiness result when the whole person has physical, social, financial, and spiritual success. You develop all those qualities to achieve real success. Your whole life is full of mental peace and happiness when your whole person becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Real success is not an accomplishment in just one area but proficiency in all four. Our education system provides instruction for the whole curriculum of life. If you are good at math but cannot speak with proper grammar, your success will be soiled. An entertainer like Elvis Presley may sell two hundred million records and have two hundred million friends but be broke and alone with a drug and spending addiction. The ordinary person focuses on the parts of life they are trying to receive while the successful person focuses on the whole life they are trying to accomplish. The second book in the series is The Secret of Money: Beating Inflation in the 21st Century. It would be a nice complement to this one.

Book Primary Care Nutrition

Download or read book Primary Care Nutrition written by David Heber and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the necessary knowledge and tools to incorporate nutrition into primary care practice. As a practical matter, this effort is led by a dedicated primary care physician with the help of motivated registered dietitians, nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, and office staff whether within a known practice or by referral to the community. It is essential that the nutrition prescription provided by the physician be as efficient as possible. While many team members have superior knowledge in the areas of nutrition, exercise, and psychology, the health practitioner remains the focus of patient confidence in a therapy plan. Therefore, the endorsement of the plan rather than the implementation of the plan is the most important task of the physician. This book proposes a significant change in attitude of primary health care providers in terms of the power of nutrition in prevention and treatment of common disease. It features detailed and referenced information on the role of nutrition in the most common conditions encountered in primary care practice. In the past, treatment focused primarily on drugs and surgery for the treatment of disease with nutrition as an afterthought. Advanced technologies and drugs are effective for the treatment of acute disease, but many of the most common diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are not preventable with drugs and surgery. While there is mention of prevention of heart disease, this largely relates to the use of statins with some modest discussion of a healthy diet. Similarly, prevention of type 2 diabetes is the early introduction of metformin or intensive insulin therapy.

  • Publisher : Princeton University Press

  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Scurvy written by Jonathan Lamb and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intellectual history of scurvy in the eighteenth century Scurvy, a disease often associated with long stretches of maritime travel, generated sensations exceeding the standard of what was normal. Eyes dazzled, skin was morbidly sensitive, emotions veered between disgust and delight. In this book, Jonathan Lamb presents an intellectual history of scurvy unlike any other, probing the speechless encounter with powerful sensations to tell the story of the disease that its victims couldn't because they found their illness too terrible and, in some cases, too exciting. Drawing on historical accounts from scientists and voyagers as well as major literary works, Lamb traces the cultural impact of scurvy during the eighteenth-century age of geographical and scientific discovery. He explains the medical knowledge surrounding scurvy and the debates about its cause, prevention, and attempted cures. He vividly describes the phenomenon and experience of "scorbutic nostalgia," in which victims imagined mirages of food, water, or home, and then wept when such pleasures proved impossible to consume or reach. Lamb argues that a culture of scurvy arose in the colony of Australia, which was prey to the disease in its early years, and identifies a literature of scurvy in the works of such figures as Herman Melville, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Francis Bacon, and Jonathan Swift. Masterful and illuminating, Scurvy shows how the journeys of discovery in the eighteenth century not only ventured outward to the ends of the earth, but were also an inward voyage into the realms of sensation and passion.
