Download or read book I ll See You Again written by Jackie Hance and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-03-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this “wonderful and courageous” (Jeannette Walls) memoir, Jackie Hance shares her story of unbearable loss, darkest despair, and—slowly, painfully, and miraculously—her cautious return to hope and love. Until the horrific car accident on New York’s Taconic State Parkway that took the lives of her three beloved young daughters, Jackie Hance was an ordinary Long Island mom, fulfilled by the joyful chaos of a household bustling with life and chatter and love. After the tragedy, she was “The Taconic Mom,” whose unimaginable loss embodied every parent’s worst nightmare. Suddenly, her lifelong Catholic faith no longer explained the world. Her marriage to her husband, Warren, was ravaged by wrenching grief and recrimination. Unable to cope with the unfathomable, she reinvented reality each night so that she awoke each morning having forgotten the heartbreaking facts: that Emma, age 8; Alyson, age 7; and Katie, age 5, were gone forever. They were killed in a minivan driven by their aunt, Jackie’s sister-in-law, Diane Schuler, while returning from a camping weekend on a sunny July morning. I’ll See You Again chronicles the day Jackie received the traumatizing phone call that defied all understanding, and the numbed and torturous events that followed—including the devastating medical findings that shattered Jackie to the core and shocked America. But this profoundly honest account is also the story of how a tight-knit community rallied around the Hances, providing the courage and strength for them to move forward. It’s a story of forgiveness, hope, and rebirth, as Jackie and Warren struggle to rediscover the possibility of joy by welcoming their fourth daughter, Kasey Rose Hance. The story that Jackie Hance shares for the first time will touch your heart and warm you to the power of love and hope.

He and his wife, Dr. Beverly Dodd, are retired professors from a small north Florida College. They had just started enjoying retirement when they found Beverly had inoperable cancer and would soon die. Frank bemoaned the fact he hadn’t insisted on Beverly seeing a doctor a year earlier when she could have been cured. While in a chat room two fellow scientists heard Frank discuss his regrets at not getting his wife help in time and how he wished he could go back in time to court and marry her again, only this time get her to the doctors in time to be cured. The two scientists have been doing experiments in time travel and knowledge transfer between brains. Frank agreed to be used as a guinea pig to be sent back to the time of his youth and to implant his knowledge into himself as a boy. He arrives in 1941 with computers and other modern equipment to sell to the government and industry and invest the proceeds for the benefit of all three while living his life over, striving to have the same experiences and doing the same things from his former youth, but this time avoiding the mistakes of his former life. The dilemma occurs when he falls in love with a woman he meets in this new life. Should he remain single and wait for 15 years to meet and court his wife again or marry the one he falls in love with during his present time.

Download or read book I ll See You Tomorrow written by Heather Thompson Day and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a culture where people easily and hastily cancel relationships rather than cultivate them, discover what the Bible has to say about how we need to keep showing up for one another—even when we feel like walking away. We are surrounded by choices. If we want to watch a movie, we have multiple platforms we can choose from. If we grow tired of a friend or conversation, we leave them on read. It's never been easier to tune out and make a switch when something doesn't go perfectly or when we are offended. It's easy to cancel something from our lives when it comes to technology, television shows, or choices of food and drinks. But what about canceling friends or family members when we are disappointed or offended by them? In I'll See You Tomorrow, communication professor Dr. Heather Thompson Day and Seth Day tackle difficulties that people face in relationships and help them navigate through relational disappointment, conflict, and fear. The dangers of a relational cancel culture are a timely one. This book will help you: learn to extend grace to yourself and your loved ones in order to forgive and keep showing up, discover how childhood trauma continues to affect your relationships, stop waiting for an ideal and refuse to let it prevent you from what's possible, recognize the value of a healthy (and small) circle rather than a large one, and refuse to let fear of what may or may not happen cause you to miss the beauty of what is. Blending personal stories with data and research in a way that inspires truth and helps people change their everyday mindsets, Heather and Seth encourage you to embrace this valuable truth: relationships don't have to be perfect to be fulfilling.
Download or read book Something Will Happen You ll See written by Christos Ikonomou and published by Archipelago. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raymond Carver meets William Faulkner in this “pitch-perfect” short story collection that captures the hopes and fears of working-class Greeks during the country’s economic crisis (Los Angeles Review of Books) Ikonomou’s stories convey the plight of those worst affected by the Greek economic crisis—laid-off workers, hungry children. In the urban sprawl between Athens and Piraeus, the narratives roam restlessly through the impoverished working-class quarters located off the tourist routes. Everyone is dreaming of escape: to the mountains, to an island or a palatial estate, into a Hans Christian Andersen story world. What are they fleeing? The old woes—gossip, watchful neighbors, the oppression and indifference of the rich—now made infinitely worse. In Ikonomou’s concrete streets, the rain is always looming, the politicians’ slogans are ignored, and the police remain a violent, threatening presence offstage. Yet even at the edge of destitution, his men and women act for themselves, trying to preserve what little solidarity remains in a deeply atomized society, and in one way or another finding their own voice. There is faith here, deep faith—though little or none in those who habitually ask for it.

Download or read book The Man Who ll See the Poet written by Geraldine Murfin-Shaw and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-07-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes up the story where 'At Least She Never Drank Much' - the first volume of Geraldine's autobiography - left off. Her erratic journey through life continues to intrigue as she walks out of her job and into an enchanted world of witches, weirdos and wannabe poets. Two offbeat characters she meets at an Earth Mysteries Group kick off the changes that Fate has in store for her, and a charismatic stranger she meets on a train takes her on a magical mystery tour through Cumbria's Lakeland, opening up her latent spirituality and leaving her hearing the Voice of God in her head. Like the Cat that Walks by Himself, Geraldine threads her own path through witches' sabbats, predatory preachers, performance poets and passionate romances, coming out at the end of it with The Man Who'll See the Poet - the only man who ever saw her as she was, instead of what he wanted her to be. There is magic and mayhem in this charming book, which has Ms Murfin-Shaw's uniquely individualistic touch.
Download or read book You ll See This Message When It Is Too Late written by Josephine Wolff and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What we can learn from the aftermath of cybersecurity breaches and how we can do a better job protecting online data. Cybersecurity incidents make the news with startling regularity. Each breach—the theft of 145.5 million Americans' information from Equifax, for example, or the Russian government's theft of National Security Agency documents, or the Sony Pictures data dump—makes headlines, inspires panic, instigates lawsuits, and is then forgotten. The cycle of alarm and amnesia continues with the next attack, and the one after that. In this book, cybersecurity expert Josephine Wolff argues that we shouldn't forget about these incidents, we should investigate their trajectory, from technology flaws to reparations for harm done to their impact on future security measures. We can learn valuable lessons in the aftermath of cybersecurity breaches. Wolff describes a series of significant cybersecurity incidents between 2005 and 2015, mapping the entire life cycle of each breach in order to identify opportunities for defensive intervention. She outlines three types of motives underlying these attacks—financial gain, espionage, and public humiliation of the victims—that have remained consistent through a decade of cyberattacks, offers examples of each, and analyzes the emergence of different attack patterns. The enormous TJX breach in 2006, for instance, set the pattern for a series of payment card fraud incidents that led to identity fraud and extortion; the Chinese army conducted cyberespionage campaigns directed at U.S.-based companies from 2006 to 2014, sparking debate about the distinction between economic and political espionage; and the 2014 breach of the Ashley Madison website was aimed at reputations rather than bank accounts.
