Book excerpt: The contents written inside this book are a road map from my infancy in writing and transforming into maturity. I titled my book so as to give the reader the opportunity to seek their own definition. Better Felt by the Pen is a title that came to me from an interior place, which says let the pen speak for you and you can stay silent. Everything about this book will have more than one meaning from the cover art to the format to the title, which will give you the gumption to think outside of your own established comfort zones and social conformity. Enjoy.

Book I ll Scream Later

Download or read book I ll Scream Later written by Marlee Matlin and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-03-31 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critically acclaimed and award-winning actress Marlee Matlin reveals the illuminating, moving, and often surprising story of how she defied all expectations to become one of the most prolific and beloved actresses of our time. Marlee Matlin entered our lives as the deaf pupil turned custodian audiences fell in love with in Children of a Lesser God, a role for which she became the youngest woman ever to win a Best Actress Oscar. More than twenty years after her stunning big screen debut, the Golden Globe- and Emmy-nominated actress is an inspirational force of nature -- a mother, an activist, and a role model for millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing people around the world. In I'll Scream Later, Marlee takes readers on the frank and touching journey of her life, from the frightening loss of her hearing at eighteen months old to the highs and lows of Hollywood, her battles with addiction, and the unexpected challenges of being thrust into the spotlight as an emissary for the deaf community. She speaks candidly for the first time about the troubles of her youth, the passionate and tumultuous two-year relationship with Oscar winner William Hurt that dovetailed with a stint in rehab, and her subsequent romances with heartthrobs like Rob Lowe, Richard Dean Anderson, and David E. Kelley. Though she became famous at the age of twenty-one, Marlee struggled all her life to connect with people, fighting against anyone who tried to hold her back. Her own mother often hid behind their communication barrier, and Marlee turned to drugs before she even started high school. However, she found in acting -- with the encouragement of her mentor, Henry Winkler -- a discipline, a drive, and a talent for understanding the human condition that belied her age and her inability to hear. By the time Hollywood embraced her, she had almost no formal training, a fact that caused many other deaf actors to give her the cold shoulder, even as she was looked upon as a spokesperson for their community. She has played memorable roles on wildly popular television shows such as Seinfeld, The West Wing, and The L Word, danced a show-stopping cha-cha-cha on Dancing with the Stars, and now, with uncompromising honesty and humor, Marlee shares the story of her life -- an enduring tale that is an unforgettable lesson in following your dreams.

Book A More Perfect Union

Download or read book A More Perfect Union written by Hana Schank and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-02-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hana Schank had never given much thought to her wedding, or even really imagined herself married, so when she found herself suddenly sporting a brand-new engagement ring she assumed planning a small, low-key wedding would be no big deal. But soon she finds herself adrift in Wedding Land, a world where all brides are expected to want to look like Cinderella, where women plan weddings with fantasy butterfly themes, where a woman's wedding is, without question, the Happiest Day of Her Life. Despite her best efforts not to become a Bridezilla, Hana finds herself transformed from a thirty-year-old woman with a 401(k) into a nearly unrecognizable version of herself as she spends weeks crafting save-the-date cards, worries about matching her cocktails to her wedding colors, and obsessively reads Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. She decides that, if she is going to follow traditions like wearing white and walking down the aisle with flowers, she at least wants to understand why. In her search she turns up interesting wedding facts: bridesmaids, for instance, were originally recruited to confuse evil spirits. Ultimately, she casts a critical eye on the $72 billion wedding industry, from the women at wedding websites who cackle over the etiquette missteps of others to wedding magazines that provide checklists of 187 tasks to plan the perfect wedding, suggesting that to have anything less is to fail as a bride, as a woman, as a wife. Part confessional memoir, part social critique, A More Perfect Union chronicles a year in Wedding Land, capturing as it does not only the stresses but the undoubted joys of becoming a bride.

Book Marry for Money You ll Learn to Love Later

Download or read book Marry for Money You ll Learn to Love Later written by Roger J. Geronimo and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-05-25 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the incredibly interestingstory which describes the unbelievable mistakes we make in life, how we cope with them into the future, and what are the lessons learned from this thing called life! The story is mixed with a sense of sarcastic humor but always stressing the benefits of humor. It is also a story of hope and encouragement as the author fights a battle that his dad, his hero, lost - to Parkinson''s disease.Heres the Forward: What is life really all about? Why are we here? Is there any purpose to our existence? These are questions that have been asked over and over again for centuries and centuries. Well I believe I have found the answer - now that I am totally broke and deteriorating thanks to Parkinsons disease! Gee - thanks guys! The sarcastic sense of humor in me concludes the following about our existence here on planet earth - "LIFE IS A BITCH, THAN YOU MARRY ONE (TWO IN MY CASE) AND THEN YOU DIE" Guess Im just waiting for the arrival of the Grim Reaper himself!! However, the real me has slowly discovered that we are all on a journey here on earth. The journey is intended not to be an easy one. It is intended for us to learn from the decisions we make using our free will. There is much pain, suffering, disappointment, hurt, anger, and sorrow. And, hopefully, forgiveness. There is no hell I believe. You are living it everyday - the good and the bad! A lot more bad than good! What is it all for? It is for all of us to learn and to grow as human creatures and to eventually flourish in a place where we will discover peace, love, harmony - Where? In the hereafter - In that warmth of the Light we hear so much about from people returning from the dead. In my mind - that Light is better known as God! That is our eventual reward for everything that is tossed our way here on earth. If we learn our lessons well here than we shall be that much closer to the warmth of the Light in the hereafter. If we learn little and cause much pain and anguish to others than we shall be the farthest from the Light but always given opportunities to proceed forward. We do this by realizing our indiscretions and asking for forgiveness for our actions on earth when arriving in the hereafter and then performing duties and working toward the Light. Boy - do I hope I am right about this! Believe it or not, I actually look forward to being greeted someday by my loved ones and all the pets in the hereafter. (I got along better with my pets than with some of my crazy relatives and friends!) So - in the chapters that follow I will allow you to make your own judgments. As you read on and we share the good times and the pitiful times, always with a sense of humor I hope, I will honestly try to elaborate on the Lessons Learned from this journey that has been all too short. Perhaps through me you can make adjustments and, just perhaps, not do the same stupid things that I have done so many times in the last half century.

This book was released on 2014-08-11 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The next stop along a poetic journey, which began with ""Shattered Images,"" and continued with ""The Problem With Revolution""; the overarching theme of ""Sooner or Later, They'll Turn on You!"" is one of betrayal. We betray our family, we betray our so-called 'friends', we betray those, who care about us, we betray our community, our society, and our nation, but most of all, we betray our own ethics and beliefs. Worst of all, is that betrayal doesn't always go to the highest bidder. Sometimes the greatest betrayals are bought and sold for worthless trinkets, and empty promises...
