Book The Nazi s Granddaughter

Download or read book The Nazi s Granddaughter written by Silvia Foti and published by Regnery History. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hero–or Nazi? Silvia Foti was raised on reverent stories about her hero grandfather, a martyr for Lithuanian independence and an unblemished patriot. Jonas Noreika, remembered as “General Storm,” had resisted his country’s German and Soviet occupiers in World War II, surviving two years in a Nazi concentration camp only to be executed in 1947 by the KGB. His granddaughter, growing up in Chicago, was treated like royalty in her tightly knit Lithuanian community. But in 2000, when Silvia traveled to Lithuania for a ceremony honoring her grandfather, she heard a very different story—a “rumor” that her grandfather had been a “Jew-killer.” The Nazi’s Granddaughter is Silvia’s account of her wrenching twenty-year quest for the truth, from a beautiful house confiscated from its Jewish owners, to familial confessions and the Holocaust tour guide who believed that her grandfather had murdered members of his family. A heartbreaking and dramatic story based on exhaustive documentary research and soul-baring interviews, The Nazi’s Granddaughter is an unforgettable journey into World War II history, intensely personal but filled with universal lessons about courage, faith, memory, and justice.

Book The One They Call Feral Rhyming Poetry Version

Download or read book The One They Call Feral Rhyming Poetry Version written by Walu Feral and published by Walu Feral. This book was released on 2020-01-13 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written entirely in rhyming poetry is the story of Ricky, a fourteen-year-old Caucasian boy from suburban Melbourne, who escapes years of childhood abuse and hitch-hikes over four-thousand kilometres, to the town of Marble Bar, in the far Northwest of Western Australia. With a morbid fear of aboriginal people, after being told by his abusive, racist, father that they are cannibals, he is found living in a cave, alone, by remnant members of the Nyamal tribe, a small group, still living a nomadic existence. They forcefully remove him from the cave and take him into the desert where he is raised in their ancient ways for five years. Whilst there, he undergoes many sacred trials and rituals, along with learning the Nyamal dialect and customs, to become an official, initiated, Nyamal man at nineteen-years-old. Based on fact, with some enhancements and name changes, the book contains many dangerous, exciting, frightening, romantic and sometimes comical adventures out in the harsh Australian desert. Striving to become a man, Ricky stumbles his way, spear in hand, clad in a loincloth, from one coming-of-age trial to the next under the watchful guidance of Uncle Ronny, the tribal Chief, and the other tribal elders. He learns to hunt, read signs of nature in order to find the best places to gather food and where to find and collect fresh water from beneath the scorching desert sand. The first in the series, "A Different Life" also contains several, rarely heard, 67,000-year-old dreamtime stories, ancient tribal practices and language.

Book Mi Vida Loca the Diary of a Teen Mom

Download or read book Mi Vida Loca the Diary of a Teen Mom written by Ella Pottle and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ella Pottle’s life has been a rollercoaster. It has had some loops and twists and turns and highs and lows, and sometimes it has gone around that same track more than once. In Mi Vida Loca, she shares her story, the story of a young girl who had two children before the age of nineteen. In this memoir, Pottle tells how rather than let this define her, she found a way to provide the world with a different and positive outlook. She discusses how she believes her kids are the factor that saved her from living a tragic life. They gave her a reason to work hard, and they provided her with the love she craved. To some, becoming a teen parent may look like a tragedy, but for Pottle it was a journey that gave her a reason to live and do the best she could to break the cycle of generational trauma for her branch of the family tree.

  • Author : Phil Allen Jr.

Download or read book Open Wounds written by Phil Allen Jr. and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On December 10, 1953, tragedy was visited on a family when Nathaniel Allen was murdered on the Sampit River by his white employer, who lured him into the meeting under the false promise of reconciliation. Allen's death was recorded as an accidental drowning, a deliberate cover-up of the bullet hole seen by more than one witness. Three generations later, Phil Allen Jr. revisits this harrowing story and recounts the "baton of bitterness" that this murder passed down in his family. Through interviews, difficult conversations, and deep theological reflection, Allen takes up the challenge of racism today, naming it for what it is and working to chart a path toward reconciliation. Open Wounds, and the documentary that accompanies it, is a transformative experience of listening and learning as a grandson looks, laments, an ultimately leads his family and his society forward toward a just and reconciled future. It's an essential part of our national reckoning with racism and injustice.
