Book I Didn t Fly Over I Landed in It

Download or read book I Didn t Fly Over I Landed in It written by Wally Edmond and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2002-12-15 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unfortunately, Life in the Rubber Room is never to become second nature for Richard Ulysses Lion. His true fortunate nature, however, is that of being overly cocky, mischievous, and fun loving at heart. He weaves a wildly variable tale through the erratically woven pages of his personal journal. A journal that is chock-full of crazy adventures, and randomly filled with many unusual and off the wall incidents. It is his Uncle Cletus who refers him to the State Mental Institution a.k.a. The Howard Hughes Hotel and who leaves him with these words "It's a crazy world in there, Richard. Even though them folks in that place might know how to play crazy eights, believe me, none of them are playing with a full deck of cards." Richard not only plays his cards right as he confronts the many hardships that come along with institutional life, he will also come to know, respect, and have a genuine concern for the folks who are living there. But as fate would have it Richard himself is dealt a bad hand through the onslaught of his many seizures to come. Richard's biological time clock is slowly ticking away. His story is not meant to be one of ridicule, belittlement, or making fun. Richard's story is meant only to capture and release the humorous side of human nature itself.

He has been writing for Livermore Valley Airmen's Association's newsletter for several years, and his stories are now included in Golden Valley Aero News. Joe works for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and commutes""by car""from Tracy, California. In Joe's stories, we learn about Fidelia, the Varga he uses when he cruises around the valley on his excursions. Fidelia is not just any Varga. To Joe, she is a real she, an airplane with soul and personality. Reading Joe's stories, you get this feeling that he is talking about a real live being. "Conner's Corner" describes real events, things that have happened to Joe on his flights. They are cute stories so well told by Joe in his easygoing, "talking" style. Many of them have an undertone of philosophy that adds a pleasant color to the events Joe is describing. He writes in such a manner that the reader actually gets the feeling of being the pilot or passenger. Most enjoyable reading.

World War II-era Douglas B-26 light bombers proved effective in close air support and interdiction, beginning with Operation Farm Gate in 1961. Forty B-26s were remanufactured as improved A-26 attack aircraft, which destroyed hundreds of North Vietnamese supply vehicles on the Ho Chi Minh Trail in 1966-1969. Book excerpt: "In 1963...there was no way I could have known, sitting in a classroom on that beautiful campus in Ohio, that by raising my hand I would be going to war in Vietnam and that I would see things, hear things and do things that most people cannot imagine."--James Joyce. The author was drawn into the United States Army through ROTC, and went through training to fly helicopters in combat over Vietnam. His experiences are notable because he flew both Huey "Slicks" and Huey "Gunships": the former on defense as he flew troops into battle, and the latter on offense as he took the battle to the enemy. Through this book, the author relives his experiences flying and fighting, with special attention given to his and other pilots' day-to-day lives--such as the smoke bombing of Disneyland, the nickname given to a United States Army-sponsored compound for prostitution. Some of the pilots Joyce served with survived the war and went on to have careers with commercial airlines, and many were killed.
