The objective of my book is to take the reader on a journey with me to see the life of a young black kid and the challenges he faced in his life and also the mischief he got into, along the way. Throughout his journey, the reader will have an understanding, that this young kid faced low self-esteem as per racism but was able to overcome this by the wonderful words of wisdom from his mother. And then later in his life he shares other important life changing experiences which forever molded and changed his life forever. By sharing his life story, the intent is to show all how word from racism can be so so painful, but with the right mindset and focus, this doesn’t have to dominate you and make you become hostile and bitter. Rather, like greats such as Mandela, Ghandi and MLK, you can use this all to propel you, forward to change yourself and then the world. The intent of this book it to entertain you with the writer's crazy life and constant bad decisions, but also to share how he strengthens his mindset and finally overcomes his low self-esteem mindset to one of focus and that you can achieve anything if you want it. There are no limitations to what you can achieve. This is my life story and it's all true.

Book Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout

Download or read book Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout written by Rick Rigsby and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2019-02-05 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A USA TODAY and Wall Street Journal bestseller! Learn how to live a life of character and integrity—by following the simple advice of a third grade dropout. Be inspired by the book behind Dr. Rick Rigsby’s viral graduation speech. After his wife died, Rick Rigsby was ready to give up. The bare minimum was good enough. Rigsby was content to go through the motions, living out his life as a shell of himself. But then he remembered the lessons his father taught him years before— incredibly simple, yet incredibly profound. These lessons weren’t about advanced mathematics or the secrets of the stock market. They were quite straightforward, in fact, as Rigsby’s father never made it through third grade. But if this man’s instructions were powerful enough to inspire one of his children to earn a Ph.D. and another to become a judge—imagine what they can do for you. While Rick Rigsby’s father was a third-grade dropout, he was a man who never hid behind any excuse. A man who never allowed his problems or lack of a formal education to determine his present or affect his future. A man who realized that destiny was a choice and not a chance. In Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout, Rigsby shares the simple lessons from his father that will transform your mindset, including: Remain true to yourself Think the best at all times Give your best regardless of the circumstances Keep standing no matter what Join Rigsby as he dusts off time-tested beliefs and shares his father’s impactful, far-reaching story—of how a life can be enhanced, of how a corporate culture can be changed, of how a family can be united—by living the simple lessons of a third-grade dropout.

Book Give Me Space but Don t Go Far

Download or read book Give Me Space but Don t Go Far written by Haley Weaver and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tender, funny, illustrated memoir about anxiety and self-acceptance from the artist behind @haleydrewthis Anxiety has been glued to Haley Weaver’s side since she was a child. Like most people, Weaver saw the constant what-ifs and worst-case scenarios that Anxiety whispered in her ear as an obstacle to her happiness. Maybe she could dump her anxiety at her therapist’s office, or send it on a trip far, far away—anything to get rid of it for good. But over time she realized anxiety’s true intention: to keep her safe. Could she learn to let it do its job but also figure out how to live without constant worry and fear? This full-color, illustrated memoir stars Haley and Anxiety (as themselves) and showcases their complicated but ultimately uplifting relationship. It also introduces readers to the helpful (and not-so-helpful) coping mechanisms Haley relies on to soften the edges of her mental health issues. There’s the Distractor, who wears a bright red boa and encourages Haley to avoid uncomfortable feelings by scrolling the Internet, the Liar, who teaches Haley the pillars of a good fib in order to survive at the middle school lunch table, and even the Partier, who gives Haley a social life in college but also lands her in the ER. From detailing her first unsupervised birthday party as a preteen to exploring the overwhelming life transitions as an adult, Give Me Space but Don’t Go Far brings to life the pivotal moments of Haley’s life and illuminates the lesson she’s learned: With care, practice, and sound strategies, we can learn to coexist with our anxiety—and maybe even love it.

Book Now I Know Only So Far

Download or read book Now I Know Only So Far written by Dell H. Hymes and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Now I Know Only So Far, sociolinguist and ethnopoetic scholar Dell Hymes examines the power and significance of Native North American literatures and how they can best be approached and appreciated. Such narratives, Hymes argues, are ways of making sense of the world. To truly comprehend the importance and durability of these narratives, one must investigate the ways of thinking expressed in these texts?the cultural sensibilities also deeply affected by storytellers? particular experiences and mastery of form. ø Included here are seminal overviews and reflections on the history and potential of the field of ethnopoetics. Native North American stories from areas ranging from the Northwest Coast to the Southwest take center stage in this book, which features careful scrutiny of different realizations and tellings of the same story or related stories. Such narratives are illuminated through a series of verse analyses in which patterned relations of lines throw into relief differences in emphasis, shape, and interpretation. A final group of essays sheds light on the often misunderstood and always controversial role of editing and interpreting texts. Now I Know Only So Far provides penetrating discussions and absorbing insights into stories and worlds, both traditional and new.
